Cleaver Family YMCA reviews
16 Lots of people from different cross-sections of the neighborhoods in the surrounding areas exercise here.
Staff are kind, welcoming, accommodating, patient, supportive, and understanding of people from all walks of life.
Edit: I was hurtful towards an elderly person, without realizing it. An employee had a heart to heart with me about it. What they said, appealed to my better nature. Afterwards, I spoke with the elderly person and we got to know each other, a little better. Thank you to the Y for encouraging me to do better and be better to elderly community members.
Cleaver Family YMCA is my family. My son and I love it there. We appreciate Mrs. Carter, Lydia, and Omarion. They have made us love it and we truly feel like family.
I just like to thank the new director for resolving an issue that I've been trying to resolve for two years. He is a better than the last director and a man of action. Thanks so much.
Since Sarah (management) left the place has gone to poop. Programs are focused soley on "active older adults" from game night to classes. Nothing is oriented towards the general public. They also pulled the rug on Halloween for us this year and changed the date for trunk or treat last minute, then we're rude and basically called us stupid for not seeing the date change sooner. I have a photo of the original flyer I sent to them and they had nothing to say other than sorry you didn't see it changed.
Clean facility, nice friendly staff. EDIT, I understand staff might use equipment through the day as well but they should be wiping things down and in dress could to step on to the floor since members get told to abide by the rules.side not I see there is a do not drop sign by the Deadlift. Some people must drop weight or get hurt just letting management know before someone hurts them selves doing the 'rules'. Classes do get busy so show up early too.
Oct 18 edit: the put up new flag so I'm giving back their 5 star, plus they are redoing weight floors!
Oct 24 edit: trunk or treat was changed last second because manager decided. As a parent I took the evening off already. And now the manager belittles me about it implying I do not look at the signs. Might I note that I come 3-5 times a week with my kid and pass the 3+ signs to get to the kid area. But they did not want to take accountability for it even showed them a picture from this month since they said it has been changed over a month. After being worked up by the 'manager' I had to leave very upset and the front desk stopped me to talk but then 2 seconds later the same 'manager' is calling me to harass me more. This location was amazing. But after thus I have no idea if I can come back.
We love this Y it’s our fav. The staff is awesome, the building is beautiful. We sometime venture to other Y’s and the staff is always kind but nothing beats the cleaver location it’s just a nice environment to work out in!
To Felisha Johnson. I love my son's instructor, the lady in question with the blond short hair. She's not mean, but she teaches the kids structure & discipline, and they follow. You may not like her, but our childrens life depend on following instruction from a young age, especially when it comes to water safety. She's not a lifeguard! You have the lifeguards sitting outside of the pool 4 emergent situations. She is a teacher and mentor. So instead of bad reviews take your child/ children somewhere where you a comfortable. She will not let anyone disrespect, or disrupt her class, and i have seen her tell a parent their child was disrespectful and disrupting the class and had to leave. Regardless of gender, or skintone. Remain blessed
It was a nice visit. I wanted to see what they offered. An employee named Ms Cathy helped me by answering all my questions and providing the paperwork for a membership. I will definitely be going back.
Found out they work with the silver sneakers provided by my insurance.
I love this YMCA - I like how community centered it is. I never feel weird in there and it's right by my house. It's a great place to work out and it is very warm even if you are just getting back at it or never worked out at all.
Staff very friendly. Especially Mo. She took my husband and myself through orientation showing us the proper way to use the equipment. Also the gym was clean.
The staff there will make you feel like you are a part of a warm and wonderful community. So will the instructors. I'm addicted to the MixxedFit class taught by Michelle Staub. I can come in sleepy, lazy, and glum, but I always leave feeling like a spry youngster with lots of positive energy.
The head lifeguard/swim instructor with the chlorine bleached hair asked me a question that I misunderstood when I was enrolling my child in swim lessons. She said, "That's not what I asked you! " She also made this rude remark in front of other staff. I didn't return negative energy because my only focus was getting my child enrolled for swim lessons. I also believed that if she spoke to me, an adult, in that manner in front of other adults, she would potentially be nasty toward my child. She is not kind. I am thankful that there was no issue with her and my child due to her disposition. The other lifeguard/swim instructor with the dreadlocks is also unkind. She does not communicate with parents concerning your child's progress unless you approach her. Both of these ladies' demeanor are unfriendly, stand-off-ish, and not warm. This is no way to behave with customers.
This is a friendly place to go to sense community. It’s like being adopted into a new family.
I was very pleased with how clean and quiet their facility and well organized. Also the staff was very nice and helpful. Keep up the great work.
Clean, modern, nice facility, friendly people, always equipment and lanes available. I love this location - one of my favorite in Kansas City!
I love the body pump classes, the trainers are amazing. Staff are kind and compassionate.
I appreciate the kids zone
