Equal Minded, Kansas City MO

This is a hidden Jewel in midtown Kansas City Missouri. This is more than just a black owned/family owned establishment. A a beacon of light and life in a part of a city that was once heavily riddled with crime. Hoping that with this establishment that will change. The conversation is excellent the food is excellent as well. I had a very tasty croissant sandwich with egg and turkey with a side of loose leaf spinach and pico de gallo. And with a refreshing cup of hazelnut latte. You can rent out the backspace for events it is also a great place for local students to meet up to relax and study. There are books and table games and it has free internet service too. I strongly, strongly recommend that you visit this place!

Great coffee. Sweet space with floor to ceiling windows letting in a bunch of light. Really friendly folks, too.

My partner and I drove to KC this weekend from Lawrence and loved every minute! Some of the best food I’ve ever had, excellent coffee and a great atmosphere! All of the employees were very kind and I will definitely be back!

We visit at least 3 times a week. The staff are great and very friendly. The owner is super friendly and everyone always has a smile.

I absolutely LOVE Equal Minded! I was able to try their new breakfast menu. The Keep It Simple sand-which was perfect, they even got the fresh pico on point! Definitely will be back ️

We have found it to be a great place for coffee and conversation, and they can do a gluten-free breakfast!

Update: They have breakfast now. Breakfast sandwich on croissant was glorious! No, seriously, glorious. Bacon done perfectly - with an extra slice on the side (mama happy!). Crispy, warm. Aoli that totally took it to the level - none of the dryness you get with other croissant sandwiches. AND the matcha latte with lavender and vanilla (right? !? !) was smooth, not too sweet and lovely.

Great place! Kind people. Messenger coffee done well. Pastries looked luscious. Clean and updated. Nice, casual event space. Please visit them. Save our cool coffee shops!

The workers were extremely friendly and they answered all of our questions! Excellent customer service. So great for walk ins and people looking to try new things Frappuccino was on point!

The slightly different take on the Reuben sandwich was on point! A bit expensive, but worth it for quality and supporting local.

It’s a bold statement to say one has “the best chai latte in Kansas City. “ However, I think equal minded café is clearly a leading contender for this honor. Round that out with the best turkey and havarti sandwich I’ve ever had, staples like PB&Js -critical for any adult not wishing to adult today- and decor meant to challenge and inspire. I enjoy this neighborhood eatery!

We always love lunching at Equal-Minded when we have some work to do in the area. The turkey & havarti sandwich is a favorite and a delicious smoothie-whatever they have is always yummy. Also the service is so attentive and kind! One of us having a disability, we were assisted to enter, find a suitable table, and even offered assistance as we exited. Excellent place for a working lunch as there's plenty of space and time to converse.

My son and I really enjoyed the free Wi-Fi and watching part of the Chiefs game! Some upsets during our visit: I assumed the Pesto Chicken Toast would have shredded chicken or chicken breast, however, it was thin sliced “average” deli meat for $12.00. Still, it was pretty tasty. The service took a really long time, even though we were the only customers. There were zero “dine-in plates”: everything is served in a box, or on a paper plate. I hate making cash when it isn’t necessary. No matter, I believe in supporting local, so I’ll be back soon to try a chai latte.

This place is amazing! The coffee was some of the best I have ever had, food was on point, and the place is filled with amazing vibes and laughter. Thanks to the owner who opened his space to our family and friends and allowing us to make memories with the newlyweds! Everything was perfect

Pesto sandwich was the right choice! I will have to come back. The ambience in this place is peaceful, inspirational, and enjoyable.

I recently coordinated a wedding reception here & I couldn’t have been more happy with how it turned out. Don, the owner was amazing & very helpful throughout the entire process. He was there for the food trucks who arrived during our time at the reception which made our day so much easier. He let the wedding party/set up crew in to work their magic & answered all their questions. At the end of the night he was still there to help make sure we did what was needed for him to open in the morning bright and early. His easygoing nature & communication was a dream as an event coordinator! If you need a warm inviting space, a good cup of coffee, an excellent sandwich, and good vibes choose Equal Minded Cafe you won’t be disappointed!

Food and coffee was very good (especially the roast beef sandwich.) Great wedding reception venue host and convenient across the street location to our Airbnb.

We just moved to the neighborhood. We've tried other coffee spots on Troost but this is the one that feels welcoming, not pretentious. Dawn the owner knows his coffee and the neighborhood. His dog Vito is just as sweet.
