Forest 44 Conservation Area reviews
6Honestly, if you don't want to be walking in horse manure literally the entire time, this isn't the trail for you.
Used the shooting range here. Not a big fan of the range or the setup.
This is the location, but trying to use this pin to access Forest 44 Conservation Area just takes you to the rifle range and classroom. There is a better pin for the hiking trails that's just listed as Forest 44.
I've hiked here a few times since I last left a review. But this is the second time I got covered in ticks and chiggers walking the dogwood trail. It needs trail maintenance
Great to have 1000 acres of woods protected from development! Can go on hikes not far from the city. The losing stream feature of Williams Creek is fascinating, a short paved walk from the parking lot.
Both bridges over Williams Creek got destroyed by floods. Easy to cross without getting wet when water is low, but you might need to wade or make a long jump when flow is higher.
The Dogwood Trail is my favorite because equestrians aren't allowed. Most of the other trails have heavy equestrian traffic. The creeks are polluted, most likely from horse manure (upstream subdivisions also have an impact).
Avoid during hunting seasons. The area has special deer hunts in fall. Signs warn about these hunts.
The western end has a shooting range. With the gunshots and the trucks on I-44, expect to hear noise.
Great trails of all lengths to hike or horseback ride. It's very rocky so bring your best hiking boots/shoes. Dogs are welcome on leash. Always see horses and other hikers on the trails. Great place to spend a few hours to clear your mind in nature.
