Austrian Restaurant Grünauer reviews
20One of the best places my wife and I have ever ate. Service was fantastic and was able to provide great suggestions. Quality food, quality beer. Will definitely be making this a recurring date place
Went in for Sunday dinner with some friends and got the Sunday special: Krustenbraten. They crispy pork belly was cooked perfectly and was both crispy and melty. While I could cut through it with a butter knife, I feel like it was an oversight that it wasn’t served with a steak knife, something I had to request. The potato dumpling that came with it wasn’t very warm and, although tasty, was off because of temperature. The slaw was pretty standard and had some good zing that went well with the pork belly. The savory dinner rolls that was $10 for 4 were excellent as was the butter pairings that came with it.
I’d highly recommend the Der Schmutzige cocktail if you want to try something different. It’s their take on a dirty martini and the onion mustard pickle notes reminded me of a McDonalds hamburger, in a good way!
The service was outstanding and our server allowed us two split a double shot espresso into two single shots for dessert.
Great place all around. Server was great and took the time to explain the menu. Food was also very good. I got the salmon and had a perfect crispy skin on it. Perfectly done.
We were a party of five on a Friday night, our entire experience was 5 stars! We were promptly greeted at the bar, served drinks, and seated in good time. We were put in a cozy booth and our server was fantastic. Food and beer was so good. We will be back for sure.
Wow! Drink menu and beer are great. Food was amazing. I highly recommend getting the red cabbage as a side. No complaints at all. Get a reservation, or sit in the bar area. Either way, you’ll have a great experience.
I was stationed in Germany for 4 years as a young man, I am always in search of authentic German food in the US. In all my travels domestically, this place is by far the best. Service is always great too.
Our first time visiting Grunauer and we were not disappointed. The food was delicious and authentic German cuisine. The only thing that distracted from the atmosphere was the background music, which wasn't Germanic nor did it fit the atmosphere of this high end restaurant. Otherwise, it was a great night with great food.
The waiter was kind and patient. Explained everything well and made a lot of suggestions. Can’t wait to go back.
My partner and I took her mom out to eat before a show at the Kauffman. The service was quick, attentive, knowledgeable, and more than happy and willing to explain the menu.
I always splurge and get the kasespatzle here. While I always recommend the cordon bleu to beginners, it's worth branching out and trying other dishes. When I can't make up my mind, I usually just get the two sausage platter.
I also recommend getting the cheese board appetizer to share among the table.
I haven't had a bad experience at Grunauer, and I've been visiting frequently for several years.
My wife should be writing this review, as she’s forgotten more about Austrian and German cuisine than I’m ever going to know. But from my amateur perspective, the food here is great. I had the Schweinsbraten Mit Knödel (and fear not, the servers are super helpful with pronunciations). It didn’t look like a ton of food, but I barely made it halfway through before I was completely full.
For dessert we split an Apfelstrudel. The apples could have been a little more tart (or maybe add some lemon for sourness), but the whipped cream was literally the best I’ve ever had.
The atmosphere is pleasant and not too noisy. Service was excellent. My sole regret was our timing. We dined here on a hot summer day, and the rich, dense food would probably have been better suited to a chilly evening in fall. But hey, that just gives us an excuse to come back.
My favorite restaurant in KC! We love to go after seeing the symphony for a lovely evening. Love everything about this restaurant!
Good place.the food was great.craft beer is delicious. Cozy and atmospheric place. I recommend!
Just fantastic. Great service, lovely comfort food, reasonably priced, tasty drinks. Really impressed. Can't believe it's taken us this long to go here!
The food was fantastic. We did not know what to expect but everyone enjoyed their meal. I got the pork/pork belly, and the meat was cooked perfectly. My stepmother doesn't really eat red meat, but she said if she lived in KC, she would come back every month just to eat the Friday special (she is from Chicago). If you have the chance (and it is not too hot), sit outside! The beer garden is beautifully done!
Finally, a place where we found schnitzel done in a real authentic European way! If you are looking for incredible Austrian cuisine, this is the place! We sat on the patio, and we loved the beer garden atmosphere and the wonderful beer selection. We will be back for sure!
Our server, Anthony made this dining experience exceptional. He was thorough when describing the dishes, and made great recommendations. Food was good. Beer was refreshing. Atmosphere was impeccable.
Wonderful Austrian/German restaurant. I’ve been meaning to try this restaurant and finally had the opportunity to stop in for lunch. Great food, great service. We’ll be back for dinner in the future….
Good if you're in the mood some of central European cuisine. Had the schnitzel which I thought was ok except that it maybe could have used a bit more seasoning.
Customer service was very good and staff was very accommodating to our large party.
May I dare say that the evening was as close to perfect as possible? Food came out without issue, service was top tier, price was appropriate for the size and quality. I am pleased we made the choice to come here for dinner tonight.
Outside of the great state of Wisconsin this is the closest I've been to authentic Austrian cuisine! Staff and service are phenomenal. Highly recommend when in downtown KC.
