Hayes Hamburger & Chili, Kansas City MO

Hayes is fantastic. A great place for breakfast, burgers, chili, coffee, pie or cinnamon rolls - and conversation with an old friend, or for business, or a new friend you'll likely make while sitting at the counter. One of the very few authentic, old fashioned diners left in the KC metro area. Nothing pretentious or trendy. The staff and customers are genuine, great people. Simple food, good people reasonable prices. A Kansas City treasure!

Surprisingly good little place. You might pass this place thinking it's a greasy burger joint, but it's a juicy burger joint. If you're in the area and in the mood, I'd recommend stopping by. Hope you enjoy.

Hayes Hamburger & Chili will always be one of the best! Their burgers are amazing and I love that it is a tiny building so you can be close to everything (grill, etc.) Their pricing is decent but can get up there if you’re not careful because everything on their menu is delicious! I feel like everyone has to try Hayes at least once.

Great service and amazing food my husband got breakfast for dinner and didnt even speak which means to good to stop eating for him and peaceful dinner for me.

Won't be back، service progressively worse, if the young waitress is the future of Hayes, Hayes has no future. No greeting, forever to get your check and breaks to feed herself.

Went there for first time at urging of 6yr old grdson had breakfast. It was great, food was good, prices were right. New customers for sure!

The best burger joint in all KC. Been going here for years and will always recommend to anyone who has never had a burger here. The small diner atmosphere feels homey.

I love this place. My dad took me here as a kid, so when I go it’s a bit of nostalgia. Two cheeseburgers and a chili is my go to. Staff is not overly bubbly but not rude either. It’s cheap too. $10 with a tip out the door.

Haven't been in years because of a bad experience. Had another bad experience. They had no cauliflower and the onion rings were soggy. Not to mention my triple Chili burger was neither triple nor was there any chili. Hayes has definitely gone down hill the last 5 years. It used to be the regular stop on my way home. This was probably my last time. So sad to see them die slowly away. They are the last of the vintage places in the area.

A personal treasured favorite that's been in existence far longer than me (and I'm old, man).
Some of the best flat top grilled, perfectly greased chow for miles around.
I'm pretty sure any vegan in there used to eat grass and is on the menu currently.
Try a burger or 2 for sure, because they definitely are perfection, and the chili comes straight or with beans. Nice touch!

Great good and great service! Nothing is better than sitting down in a small restaurant like this and having a home cooked type meal. Food was good and I could sit there for hours talking with the waitress.

Just had this place! I wouldn't go back! Food was not cooked like it was ordered, Steak looked old, cheese left off the chilli cheese fries I could go on but. Hard pass for me!

It's only fine. The single biggest issue is that they cook the burgers with onion to make them caramelize, which I'm not a fan of and would rather taste the beef. I suppose it is kind of like White Castle that way. The portions on the sides are a little small for the price. Got a chocolate malt and I wouldn't do that again. I like the greasy spoon atmosphere but expected more.

Local landmark for sure and the best chili this side of the Mississippi! If you're ever up North this is the place to go. Definitely that diner warm feeling. Everyone knows your name and gives you a welcome every time you come in it doesn't matter if it's 3: 00 in the morning or 1: 00 in the afternoon

Getting out of my car and they lock the doors right in front of me.no reason, no words. Just ignore us. Way before close. Lost lots of business. Jerks

Not the friendliest staff. Dry chilli but good flavor. Great burgers. If you are really hungry then order a triple (that would be like a normal size burger) the others are like sliders. Wish the atmosphere was more welcoming.

I went there yesterday 8/23/21. The Girl with a tattoo of Donna on her arm was right across from me when I ordered 3 double cheese burgers and fries. Instead of confirming my order she went to cash it out and she only heard 1 cheese burger and fries so I raised my voice a little so I could make sure she heard me, and then she said not to talk to her lime that. Next time take the extra 5 second to confirm my order, because a true server would have. I don't understand how she never heard me when she leaned in to take my order and that the counter is only about 15 inches across. If this happens again I will just drive to town topic.
