Great location downtown - the property is a legacy property - great architecture - however it is very tired and needs updated - the food / menu for the hotel is a little thin

I really loved this hotel!

We were in town for a conference being held in the hotel so staying here was a no-brainer. Our room was huge, clean and the bathroom was great. The balcony was large with a great view. I love that the hotel feels older and historic but also feels clean and modern.

The meeting facilities were very comfortable and the food was all great.

Literally every employee from the front desk to the servers to Alex at valet (thanks again, Alex!), everyone was fantastic.

There are tons and tons of restaurants and stores within walking distance. What a great location!

I would absolutely stay here again!

We recently stayed at the Intercontinental in Kansas City plaza for a girls weekend. I was pleasantly surprised. The public areas could use a little updating, they are a little worn.

But the service was top notch. The staff was friendly, greeted you in the hallway or entering the hotel. So it was a very friendly environment. I was absolutely shocked when we had maid service. It was the first time I have stayed at a hotel since pandemic and had a room cleaned and the beds made. I can’t tell you what a luxury that was and a pleasant surprise.

We also had a lovely large balcony overlooking the Plaza. They had an art festival going on, with live music. We could sit on the balcony, enjoy the view and the music.

Included with our room were vouchers for a Brunch on Saturday and Sunday. I always question breakfast vouchers, but this was the real deal. We ordered off the menu and the food and service was excellent, and it was free!

So, even if the public areas aren’t the most up-to-date, the location is wonderful, the rooms are nice, and the staff accommodating.

I am very disappointed, I booked this hotel because of the Intercontinental name. This is more like a 3 star hotel charging 5 star prices.
Very old carpet in hallways, rooms are just average 3 star hotel room.

It does not have the 4 or 5 star feel or look.

I have stayed at this hotel at least 15 times in past. The restaurant was always really good. This time my wife and ordered our food. It came out cold and I had a French fry in my soup. The AC was broken in our room. A guy came and fixed it, kind of. It would just blast cold air all the time. The only way to stop it was to turn the unit off. Then when the room became warm had to turn it back in. Note to the manager when you are charging 300 a night people expect exceptional service. Not lazy gross service. Be professional and have your staff take pride in their work. Don’t treat high paying customers as if we are inconveniencing them. Also asked for a late check out today we were told no. I could see on a day everyone is checking in. But everyone was checking out today. Not sure if I will ever come back. I guess long term loyal customers don’t matter to you.

Super disappointing how the service at this hotel has steadily deteriorated… Almost feels disrespectful the level of follow-up from the staff… have stayed here regularly for many years… this will be my last stay…

This hotel needs some help in their restaurant, American Slang! Ate breakfast there 2x and both times it wasn't edible. Ordered avocado toast and they smothered it with balsamic! My spouses hashbrowns weren't cooked. Next day ordered seasonal fruit and yogurt and what was supposed to be farm to market toast. Limp toast. 5 little blueberries in my yogurt! Obviously didn't have any fruit. Coffee was cold. Hotel hallway floors were dirty. Maybe they don't have enough help? Location is good. Next time we will try a different hotel in that area. Pool was nice as well.

An employee walked into our room as we were in the bathroom. Saw my husband naked and walked out. We reported it to the front desk and they just basically said oops. No action was taken. On top of that the rooms were dirty, wallpaper peeling off of the wall in the bathroom. We ran out of toilet paper in the middle of the night and had to use tissues. Definitely not worth the cost. Epically when the staff is not remorseful for walking in your room unannounced.

Nice hotel. Very quiet in the rooms. Rooms are very modern. And comfortable. Older hotel but we’ll maintained and clean.

We were given a CONJOINING ROOM…which isn’t what we booked, the people next to us weird loud and are still making noise at 1am. For 300$ a night I expect MUCH BETTER.

Service is excellent and the rooms are nice and clean! But most of all the views are spectacular! Especially the higher up you are. The balcony off your room overlooks the river walk and Spanish inspired shopping area that is just across the river! I sat outside overlooking the city last night for hours with all the buildings lit up and everyone out enjoying the night life of K. C. I’m definitely going to come back without the grandkids and take the wife on the town for some dinner, drinks and dancing…oh and yes of course shopping. The best part is you don’t have to drive and it would take about 3 or 4 days just to see this little area of shops and restaurants/bars right outside the hotel.

3-star hotel at a 4-star price.

Carpets were gross and stained. PAPER THIN walls (The room next door's alarm clock woke us up). Housekeeping came in our room without announcing themselves or knocking first (around 9am, two hours before checkout). Duvet wasn't actually in a duvet cover, just sandwiched between two bedsheets - I assume the duvet isn't washed often, so this made it difficult not to touch it. Grout in the shower appeared to have a little mold.

Absolutely not worth the price. I would guess that a nice 3-star hotel like a Hilton or Marriot would be a much better experience.

1 year later: The service and quality went down to zero. Rooms are outdated, not maintained, unclean. Complaining at the front desk will not solve the issue, you will be ignored. Staff is smiling but refuse to find a solution for the guest.
I was staying during the last years in the hotel for weeks and get treated as everyone. No upgrade, no late check-out, even no Platinum member benefits without asking.stay away You get better service and quality everywhere.

From 2022:
In standard rooms a bit borderline in terms of cleanliness. You have to apply for housekeeping by 9am in the morning, otherwise nobody will come. However, I was not informed of this and so the room remained uncleaned. Another service cut with the excuse of Corona.

Great location but terrible service. Old and outdated. First issue was the dirty stained blanket they tried covering up with the top sheet. Second issue was lack of cream and sugar for coffee. Why charge $200/night and fail to properly clean the room or include cream and sugar. Third issue was the overpowering smell of soap in the carpet. It was as if they dumped a bucket of soap into the carpet to hide the smell. Couldn’t believe the lack of sincerity for letting staff put dirty sheets on a bed! Disappointed and will never stay there again.

The front desk Clerk was very rude and unprofessional. I will never stay in an intercontinental Hotel ever again.

DO NOT STAY HERE. Our room was broken into by what we think was the staff. Personal items stolen, double charged me for my stay when I used points. Been trying to contact management for the last 2 days and they transfer and put you on hold and never answer and still not been contacted by management. Creepy place.

I was mortified seeing how terribly rude the staff was at this hotel. As I walked up to the desk to check in I waited patiently for the woman at the desk to finish her call, no issue. A manager, I believe, came out and yanked the phone away and hung up on who ever was on the phone and rudely told her to service me first despite the woman explaining that I had only just walked up a few moments ago while she was already helping someone.
Regardless if it’s in their policy, treating employees like that in front of costumers is Shameful.
