J. Gilbert's Wood-Fired Steaks & Seafood St. Louis reviews
14Amazing food and good service. Make sure you try the deserts. Top 5 best steaks I've ever had.
Arrived 15mins after 6 on Saturday. We were greeted by the hosts. They promptly got us all seated and situated in a quick professional setting. We invited my mother-in-law and family on her accomplishment of retirement. The food was Devine and the service was excellent. My brother-in-law and his family, that was their 1st time ever going to J. Gilberts. They loved it!
I only gave the restaurant three stars because the food was excellent. But I came to celebrate my mothers birthday as well as Mother’s Day. One of the waiters robbed me of money off my card and gave himself a tip without my permission. Mind you the waiter was extremely horrible. He did not want to do his job that day. So I call the location the building manager seemed as if he was going to resolve my problem, but my problem was never resolved. I still haven’t received any of my money. I feel like I was robbed at the end of the day and this is my first time there. Be very cautious about how you sign your signature at this location so they don’t steal from you without your permission and not give you your money back!
All the food items were prepared great and tasted great. Large shrimp in the shrimp cocktail! Wonderful Mother's Day Pre-Fix menu.
Nice ambiance and staff. I got the barrel-aged Manhattan and enjoyed it. Decent wine selection.
After you order, they bring you a delicious, warm sourdough bread loaf with two types of butter. This was the highlight of the meal for me.
My wife got the filet combo which includes a 4 oz.filet and one other item – she chose the crab cake based on the waiter’s recommendation. She got grilled asparagus and creamed corn for the sides and enjoyed both.
I got the baby back ribs which includes creamed corn and fries. The ribs were cooked to perfection but they weren’t smoked so while the consistency was great, there wasn’t much flavor. The creamed corn was the highlight for me. The fries were solid but very basic. I would’ve enjoyed some garlic on them.
Overall, the food was good but I’m not sure the price justified it. I can get better (smoked) ribs for half the price at many other restaurants in the area. But everything was at least “pretty good” and we had a good time.
I got the Kansas City strip steak. It was thick but really tender and jucy. The waitress was really good and very helpful!
1 star is too kind truthfully. I attended a birthday dinner this past Monday and my salmon was dry. My brussel sprouts were hard. Our server declined any of our suggestions regarding increasing our table space by adding an additional table or chairs. Which placed 13 women along with our plates/drinks on a table. Meanwhile there was practically nobody else in the restaurant. Nevertheless, we continued our evening only to be met with flickering lights on more than one occasion! Signaling us to get out perhaps? Both times were well before the restaurant closed so that was distasteful! ZERO stars! But the bartender who took our pictures was very nice! Wont be back!
The food was amazing our waiter was horrible other then that it's a nice restaurant. And the dessert was good as well.
J. Gilbert's never fails to impress. I had a petit filet and scallops. They were seasoned and cooked perfectly. The Brussels sprouts were perfect. The house salad had arugula, which I'm not a fan of, but it was still delicious. I would have been satisfied if the meal ended at the salad, even with the arugula! I had a "Blood & Marriage" mixed drink, which was phenomenal. Cognac and rosemary are a perfect pairing, and that was an amazing drink for someone with a sweet tooth like I do. The server was attentive, but not intrusive, knowledgeable about the menu, and drinks were never empty. The atmosphere was intimate, even being seated in the bar area. A little dark, but I like it that way. Gives it an "evening romance" ambience. The wine selection never lacks, although i don't drink wine. Too expensive to come here TOO often, but if you're looking to treat yourself once in a while, this place rivals much more expensive competitors.
Best wood fired steaks in area. Really nice ambience and outdoor patio if weather is nice. This is a really nice restaurant with excellent food, service and attention to detail. It is a bit of a high price point with entrees in the 50-60 range so more of a special occasion place if one is on budget. Way better than Annie Guns or Ruth Chris.
This was my first experience with this restaurant and I am fan of a good prepared filet mignon. The waiter was very hospitable and friendly. The wedge salad and onion rings were the bomb, however the entree was less desirable here at J. Gilbert’s. Ordered the 8 oz filet, it was a very tough piece steak, not quality to steak at all. Well not be back at all, Outback made a better steak this. I expected this steak to be at the quality level of Flemings here in St. Louis.not even close!
Went to this restaurant for a friend’s birthday on March 27,2023–which was a Monday evening. It was about 13 of us ladies, which we had to cram in two tables because they refused any accommodations for all of us to sit together comfortably. We ordered drinks and food totaling the bill to over $1,000 dollars, and a gratuity charge of over $100. The food was okay. However, we were concerned with the service.
Don was our waiter, and managed our table with the help of the bartender who was nice. The issue we had was our reservation was at 7pm, and when all our party arrived, we ordered. We were the last customers in the restaurant when the guest of honor started opening her gifts at about 9: 30, and the lights and music were turned off. Mind you, this was after we paid our $1,000 bill. We were under the impression that the restaurant closed at 10pm, and in the middle of taking videos and pictures— which we thought was so rude. There was also no acknowledgment from the staff that we were celebrating a birthday, which I thought was strange.
I am concerned that this establishment does not treat all of it’s customers/guest with the best service. With their prices and mediocre food, that should be their priority. We will not be back, and predict their closure along with the other restaurants at west county mall because of their lack of customer service toward paying customers.
Food was pretty meh me and 3 others did the prix fixe menu and it was okay we all got a version of a filet and it was okay, the mash potatoes was pretty hard and the asparagus deft wasn't up to the level of a nice restaurant. Feel like I should have went to Twisted tree.
We all thought it pretty meh for the $300+ bill should have been top notch food the brussels sprouts was hard and burnt. You didn't have seven Layer cake or apple which it would have made the end of the night. Won't be coming here again.
I visited this restaurant for a friend's birthday dinner, and this place did not disappoint. The ambiance of the restaurant is great but it's too dark I had to use the light on my phone to read the menu. I regret I can't remember our waiters name because he was great, he made great suggestions on what to order being it was all of our first time dinning there and he took our picture for us. First we ordered drinks and we all opted for the pineapple martini, and it didn't disappoint.
The food was very good, I ordered the Shrimp Durango for an appetizer, I love basil and this dish had fresh basil, spinach, tomatoes, with a nice ancho chile butter sauce that had a little spicy kick to it. For my entrée I had the maple plank roasted salmon with their house potato dish suggested by our waiter, and it was so good. The salmon was cooked to perfection and the bourbon glaze topped it off perfectly. I think the food is priced right for this type of dinning, and I will be returning again.
