The famous chicken dinner only had dark meat and no white meat. I was surprised and disappointed, but it tasted good. Vegetable beef soup was warm but not hot. When I called this to the waitresses attention, she said oh. There was no attempt to give me a hot bowl of soup and so I ate my soup lukewarm.

Nice little town with this being the main restaurant in town.
We arrived on Saturday around 1: 00pm. Charming restaurant and decor. The menu lists fried chicken as their featured dish along with other options as well.
Staff is very friendly. The pre dinner rolls were a bit over baked and dry. I ordered the pork tenderloin meal and it was good as were the mashed potatoes and green beans. My wife ordered the feature dish of fried chicken. Unfortunately the chicken was overcooked and dry. My wife could not eat much of the chicken due to the dryness. Her mashed potatoes and vegetable were fine.
I can’t recommend this restaurant at this point due to the chicken, but otherwise it was fine.

Had the burger special (Gouda, bacon, grilled veggies). Very attentive service and a great value for this type of full service restaurant in a historic building.

Had reservations for our group and could not order off menu.
Were served no salad no bread and cinnamon roll for dessert. The price was $28.50 per person and did not include tax or tip.

We didn't have a reservation but we were seated immediately at lunchtime Saturday, of college move-in day.

Had a most delicious fried chicken dinner there on Sat, July 15th. It was outstanding. The service was equally great. A shout out to our server, Aramie. We will be back.

We ate here before a show at the Lyceum Theater. The fried chicken with mashed potatoes and creamy gravy and maple glazed carrots was great. Our appetizers were delicious too. The clam chowder was tasty too! What a treat! Great place! So much history at this restaurant and in this town!

A most excellent meal with great staff and a welcoming atmosphere. Highly recommend. If there's a production at the Lyceum Theater, make reservations well in advance.

We had pork tenderloin and chicken with macaroni and cheese. The food was great but Maggie, our server, was amazing. Keep smiling, Maggie!

We always enjoy the food, the service and the historic atmosphere at J Huston Tavern. The fried chicken is moist, tender and crunchy. And the best tip I can give you is to get a wagon wheel size cinnamon roll to take home. Oh, the vanilla cheesecake.it made me cry it was so good.

Fun atmosphere with lots of history. The chicken is yummy. Not a fan of the gravy. They close really early. They had no soda. They are gearing up for the summer.

The food was delicious the service was awesome. It was not the cheapest place but well worth the money. I had the buffalo wings. The only problem was the cloth napkins looked horrible by the time I was done with the wings.

Oh my goodness! The mushroom swiss burger is fantastic, but the lemon curd cheesecake is out of this world. I may go back today and get another slice of cheesecake.

I have eaten at J Huston's before and had good service and food. This time, however, was not the case.
Once seated we barely saw our waitress. The pre-meal bread was hard and crusty, like it had been sitting out.
We had to flag down another of the staff to get the drink refills we had already asked twice for. Our waitress was very inattentive to our table. She took food orders from other tables first, without checking if we were ready to order and the fact that we had laid our menus aside.
Then, after more than 30 minutes of waiting to get our food after ordering, she served at least two other tables their food, both who ordered after us.
I ordered their fried chicken with a loaded baked potato. The chicken pieces were small and dry. The loaded backed potato was served only with cheese. No additional "loaded" toppings, not even butter.
I love the story of the tavern and it is supposed to be a must do experience when going to Arrowrock, but I was quite frustrated at our "experience". I doubt I will be returning.

The performance of "Sherwood" was THE reason we visited Arrow Rock, MO. I am certain we will be back for another performance. The acting, sets and venue were all first class, quite unexpected in such a rural, tiny town in the Midwest. The building was a church at one time, which adds a ton of charm. Seating is comfortable and there is a good number of options for refreshments beforehand, however the prices are too high imo. After the show, there are some great restaurants and shops to check out.
