Meramec Campground reviews
21 As anyone who reads my reviews knows, it is very rare that I say negative things in my comments. This campground, however, merits a strong exception to that rule.
This is our second stay at this campground and we're here now only because we failed to realize when planning our stop that it was a repeat visit. Six months ago on our third cross country trip we stayed here on the way home. My husband used the restroom facilities and fell on the stairs leading to the entrance. Luckily, an emergency room is located nearby and that staff was amazing and had stitches in his hand and us back on the road within 90 minutes. Today, after driving nearly 400 miles, we pulled into this parking lot to realize it was indeed the scene of that accident. Nonetheless, it was too late in the day to find another campground so we bit the bullet and went inside to see if they had any sites available.
The first thing that greeted us was not a person but rather a sign saying we had to call someone on a walkie-talkie to have them come to the office to wait on us. A woman finally arrived and, exactly as was the case on our previous trip, took forever to check us in because she didn't know how to work the computer system. She did have an available site which we accepted. When my husband read the bill, however, there was not only a charge for the site but also a SECOND charge for $3 for a "booking fee. " My husband, very politely, said he thought this was an error since we did not book in advance but rather walked in to inquire about a site. The woman shrugged and said that's just the way it is.
It took a bit of time but I convinced my very irate husband to let it go. But then, I walked a not inconsiderable distance to what looks for all intents and purposes like a working sink to wash our dishes and when I got there it was literally that: just a sink. No spigots. No water. Literally just a sink. Upon carrying the dirty dishes the whole way back to our site I realized that not telling other travelers about this campground would be an abdication of my responsibility as a reviewer.
I cannot stress enough, fellow campers, if you can avoid this campground, do it.
Oh, and one last thing, you will find this campground still shows up in searches for KOAs since it used to be one. This campground is definitely no longer a KOA and the service and facilities (or complete lack thereof) most certainly testify to that fact.
Great RV Park. Full hookups with a little pond, pool, and store. Fantastic location near Meramec Caverns, Wild Animal Adventures, and Onondaga Caves. Clean and friendly.
Nice place to stay when visiting the cavern and canoeing.clean individual bath and shower rooms.also clean laundry facility was appreciated.sites are nice level gravel easy to access.
Love this campground. We ended up here by accident, but so happy we did. Met some great people, that invited us on a float trip. Went hiking and cave exploring, not to far from the campground. They have great amenities. From the showers to the pool. Even a scavenger hunt for kids. Melinda was very nice and helpful with places to go exploring. Will definitely be staying here again.
Last minute change in plans lead us to finding this new gem. Loved our quiet stay. Beautiful Campground with lots of amenities. The cornhole tournament was a blast. Very clean and well maintained. Would highly recommend.
Stayed here on 7/16, woke up to no power, no water. Couldn't take a shower, couldn't even go to the bathroom. What's the point of paying to stay here if you can't do either of those things? Management's attitude was DISGUSTING. Customer service is a 0. She hung up on us multiple times when we called asking for a partial refund on our cabins. Would not recommend and will never stay here again.
The park is conveniently located off the freeway. It is very clean. The pool was nice and it is close to attractions in the area. We stayed overnight but would definitely stay longer.
You can tell the moment you arrive they are really making a difference. The folks we interacted with were ALL very nice and helpful. I had my entire family out for a camping weekend. We rented 2 cabins and everyone had an absolute blast. We will return for sure! I noticed in some older reviews regarding people of color. My entire family is mixed and the NEW owners couldn't have been nicer. We all felt very welcomed.
We wanted to get away from home for a night but didn't want to have to travel far from home so we decided to check out Keifer Campground. Super easy to make our reservation over the phone. When we arrived, Melinda went above and beyond to make sure we had everything we needed to make our overnight getaway enjoyable and stress free. She really made us feel welcome and even checked in with us while she was walking around the grounds to see how we were doing. The pool was very clean (which we have not always found to be the case at some other places during the peak camping season) and all the facilities are well maintained. We can't wait to have the time to visit again and stay longer than one night!
Thank you for everything, Melinda! You are a fantastic hostess and an all around amazing person!
A wonderful place to stay. Friendly people, clean camp sites, and a great swimming pool. Nice level sites with picnic tables for each site. Also enjoyed the camp store, game room and laundry facilities. Very clean!
Family was there this past weekend, and it was a great little campground. Especially for the price! Pool, game room, snacks, it had everything. Alot for the kids to do. Amazingly friendly staff, popcorn and cookie and coffee available at all times for free even! They make you feel glad to be there. Will absolutely be back!
We camped in our 17’ Casita trailer with our 4yo granddaughter.
We spent most of our time in the really nice pool. It was clean and refreshing! They had a little pergola area for some shade.
The bathrooms and showers were always clean in both sets, by the office/pool and away in the bathhouse.
Melinda helped us today in the office as we had some FREE popcorn and cookies while our granddaughter got a souvenir.
She was very knowledgeable about the history and transition of the park from KOA to Keifer-owned.
We stayed here when it was KOA C and it was fine but they have improvements and we’re looking forward to going some of their other locations.
Thank you! We had a wonderful stay!
Stayed one night in deluxe cabin and was a extremely pleasant surprise. Check in was a breeze offered free popcorn which my daughter loved. Got to cabin and everything was extremely clean and in good order. Was nervous before we stayed here, but after spending the night and swimming in the well maintained pool I would not hesitate to rebook in future First rate campground and highly recommend.
Great campground! Level sites. Easy on and off Interstate 44. Melinda was very friendly and accommodating! We would definitely stay again! Highly recommend!
Fantastic place to get away with the family & friends! Clean bathrooms and showers friendly staff especially Melinda! We're definitely repeat customers! Highly recommended!
I recently spent several days at this campground. It is currently under new ownership, Kiefer Campgrounds. You can definitely tell from the remodel inside and out. There is a new manager named Melinda and she is so nice and helpful. I noticed that even when it was past closing time she was still trying to do things and accommodate us campers.
I loved the clean bathrooms!
Free popcorn and cookies at check-in that was delicious. The game rooms were quite fascinating as well. I will be back. Keep up the good work and thank you for making us feel like we were at our home away from home.
We were very happy with this campground! Everything was very nice and so were the people! They are very helpful. I will stay again!
This park under new management. Is getting to top notch. Very friendly managers.serving fresh cookies and popcorn. We'll be back for a stat 8n the fall.
This is a GREAT campground! Melinda is super friendly and very helpful! The game room is great for kids and adults! I highly recommend Meramec Campground!
Nice clean campground just off of Interstate 44. Friendly and helpful staff. Campground has several long pull throughs that could accommodate my 65 foot setup. I have a fifth wheel that I tow with a converted semi truck.
