Camp Outpost Cabins reviews
17We have stayed here several times and absolutely love it. The reservation system is not the greatest but I gladly navigate for the payoff. Cabins are very rustic but sturdy. It's what I expect out of glamping. For people who are looking for a hotel like stay, it's not for you. It's more like a hunters cabin in the woods. We will keep coming back. Thank you!
If you go make sure you know all details. Most cabbins are a good distance from the restrooms.
My favorite place in Lake of the Ozarks! So relaxing, surrounded by nature. We are frequent visitors.
Bathrooms are to far for older guest. No place to swim within a 30 minute drive and watch out for the bobcats. Caves are fantastic.
For $50 a night, how can you go wrong. Super cool, old rustic cabins. The AC is an absolute life saver. Very well maintained bathrooms and showers. The cabins themselves are a little worn from constant bookings, but still very respectable. ****SOME NOTES. (1) you absolutely must bring several extension chords to get a box fan into the loft bedroom area. Honestly 20⁰ warmer than floor area. My box fan brought temperatures down within 5 minutes. You need at least a 12ft chord to get up there. (2) bring your own wood, if a local Missouri resident. They frown on "out of state" firewood. Not much wood around site to burn. ***** (3) SUPER IMPORTANT.the padding on the beds are super thin, no mattress. If this bothers you, bring additional support for sleeping. Either layers of blankets, or an air mattress to put on top of bed padding
Awesome place love the view, fireplace, area and everything. Has a nice micro fridge and microwave but can bring Blackstone or something of your choice. Cooking inside not allowed so plan for that. No utensils or running water inside so bring paper. Spent two nights and other than the mattress was teriable (bring an air bed) we enjoyed our stay. If spending two or more nights bring your own wood. Park provides enough for about a day and a half. We stayed when it was 8 degrees out first night and 30 but breezy our second. Was a little drafty but helps with the cabin feel. Bathroom and showers just up the trail and super nice with fresh water so bring you a jug. Would like to come back in spring or early summer and stay again.
Had a college reunions there with a couple friends. We really had a great time and the facilities were really nice
Great place to take the family and get away from the city! Nice and secluded, but close to town.
Loved it! Even if it did storm and the windows leaked. Mother nature is out of your control though.
Nice cabin for our fall camping trip that often includes rain. Loved the windows all around, the porch, the loft & all the pegs for hanging all sorts of items. Additional shelving above the downstairs windows would have been nice. We prepared for better lighting (having read other reviews) by bringing along a few surge protectors & small lamps - can't emphasize that enough! Especially if you want to read a book or play a board game at the table. It is a 20 minute drive to Hy-Vee, so plan meals accordingly. We were disappointed that there were no boat rentals at the park marina Mon thru Thur, but we had great fishing right along the bank just off a hiking trail; side note, that trail is listed as "moderate", but I thought it more " difficult" due to jagged rocks & the slippery slope path covered with leaves along the hillside - beautiful, but not for an easy fall "stroll. " We would definitely visit again & highly recommend.
The cabins are really cute. Nice quiet area and you are really secluded. Toilet and showers are pretty clean, but no A/C so you feel like you need another shower after you take a shower. Restrooms are very hot inside also. Even a fan would be helpful. The cabins have a small fridge and a microwave, lots of shelves to place your belongings and a table and chairs to eat. It is rustic camping, but having air conditioning makes it really nice. The cabins could be swept and a little cleaner upon checking in and if it weren't for the extremely uncomfortable beds, I would give these cabins 5 stars. The thin mattresses are useless. Best to bring a blow up mattress to place on the beds or a memory foam. For rustic camping, these are great. The one huge drawback is the beds. We rented three cabins and everyone complained about the beds. Everything else is great.
This was a very nice cabin. Dog friendly, light air conditioning and electric. It is a great place to visit if you want to camp with out setting up a tent. Close to the shower house and had a very nice area for fires and bbq.
Excellent way to get back to "nature" in a spectacular location. We were fortunate enough to have the weather cooperate with us when we stayed at the outpost cabins for 5 nights.
We stayed in outpost cabin 5 which is pretty much in the middle of the 8 cabins. A short walk down a trail from the parking area.
Very clean showers and bathrooms, that include heat in the winter. When you park, there are wagons provided near each trail to the cabins so you can wheel all your gear down.
Outside area includes a leveled gravel area with an outdoor grill, fire ring, picnic table, and trash cans with a covered lid. The cabin has a level entry wrap around porch and on the front side (where the door is) it has a roof covered area to sit and enjoy the lake views.
Inside the cabin includes a counter high prep table with storage for gear and food, a chest for firewood, wood stove with tools, a kitchen table with a corner wrap around bench and 3 chairs, a futon, 2 full (I think) beds in the loft, lots of windows, pegs and hooks for hanging lanterns and jackets both in the loft and below.
Very clean and very sturdy. If you have a realistic understanding of what you’re getting into I think these cabins will not disappoint. No plumbing. No kitchen. Minimal electricity (one interior light, one plug, one ceiling fan, a microwave, dorm sized fridge with a freezer, and a supplemental heating/ac unit in the wall). The cushions for the loft beds are very thin and not comfortable, FYI. The first time we came down it was just my wife and I, so we took the cushions from the futon down below and put them on the beds above to double up the softness. This time we brought a blow up mattress.
We came down in January the first time for 2 nights and it was bitterly cold (single digits-cold enough to freeze the wiper fluid in my vehicle) but the wood stove kept the cabin nice and toasty. The park provides a decent load of firewood in a chest near the stove.
This time when we came down (in February) the temp was a perfect 60 at 3pm so we hung outside the rest of the day and made a fire in the ring outside the cabin (there was bonus wood cut and stacked by the wall-not the case when we came in January).
In the winter we have a clear view down to the lake, but not sure how it is when the trees have leaves. It is possible to walk straight down to the lake, no cliffs or anything, but there’s also not a trail, so be careful if you plan to head down there as it has some spots with loose ground.
For $50 on the week days and $55 on the weekend, this is an affordable / beautiful and quiet place to disconnect and relax.
Well built and solid, but a few holes here & there. Park area is nice yet spoiled by McMansions and other monstrosities across the lake. Only one (1!) light fixture serves both levels-not sure what happens when the one lightbulb dies.
The outpost cabin was an awesome experience, quiet and cozy was just what we were after and we found it! The only complaint I had was not enough time to stay longer. I long to settle down in a spot just like this one day soon.
Great place to ‘Camp' with a shower/bath house and a nice cabin with a loft for the Boys. Futon that pulls out. Small refrigerator/microwave combo and a window unit for heat or a/c. Eight total cabins spaced well apart. We love it.
