The staff here bent over backwards to help my child. From the extra care in the admissions process all the way to the care received from the nurses and psychiatric staff, they went above and beyond to make sure everything was done to help my child. I was skeptical after reading a couple of the reviews but am now convinced that I had no reason to worry. Highly recommend if your child has need for the services offered.

I think it’s very unprofessional of the Nursing staff/tech making fun of patients. I was there to pick up my child that was being discharged sitting in the lobby, and all I could hear was a child having an outburst and episode and the nurses were sitting there, making fun of the child and mocking them loud enough, so I can hear them through closed doors, which I felt was highly unprofessional and ridiculous. The children are there to get help and support that they need for their mental illness. Instead, they’re getting mocked and made fun of by the staff members. Highly ridiculous. Highly unacceptable.

I was admitted here because it was the only place with open covid beds however i tested negative once i got there.do not send your child here.i witnessed my roommate beat up by another patient to the point where she almost had to go to the hospital the patient was moved to a different unit but as they were trying to move the attacker she ended up finding the girl again and beating her a second time.they kept the attacker on the unit with us and throughout my stay she attacked several more patients including kicking me right in my spine.we all had to get locked in one room with a worker because they couldn't get her under control.i woke up one night to her standing over my bed about to punch me.eventually they moved her to the boys unit.the techs there are amazing but the behind the scenes staff is terrible my parents called multiple times trying to get information on my care and every time they said they would ask and call back but my parents never got any calls back.i was put on 3 different meds there without my parents consent.worst of all i went in late November and their heating broke and it took them over 3 days to get it fixed we were sitting in a freezing cold building we had to wear 3 layers of everything and we were still freezing.the day before my discharge i had told them i was not ready to leave and they still discharged me the next day anyways.this place is terrible do not send your child there

I'll start by saying the provider I first spoke to, Amber was very kind and understanding. I feel like she really cared and really listened to everything. It was nice to feel heard. She really wanted to get to the bottom of what was going on, and get my son some help. I feel like she was really looking for correct diagnosis, when other places have failed my son in this.
I feel like that was the one helpful thing here. Though I don't think six days was long enough to really accomplish this.
Because the providers change during the week, I feel like there were some pretty big communication issues. One provider would tell me one thing about a medication ect and the next day I was told something completely different from a different provider. I was also told different things regarding the medicine he was already on. Like tapering him off, putting him back on it ect. When he was discharged he was still on his previous medication, but the dose cut in half. When I asked the nurse what the plan was on this, her response was "I don't know"
I was also told my son was having hallucinations, and that that was a reason they were wanting to switch a medication he had already been on for 10 months. I'm glad I refused to change it, as I do not believe he was having hallucinations. I was told by my son that staff likes to tell ghost stories and talk about seeing ghosts and strange occurrences. My son believes what people tell him, and has a huge imagination. From what my son told me, that's where these "hallucinations" were coming from. He was scared by this, and I find it highly inappropriate that staff is doing this with children who are in there for mental health. I feel that's a huge problem.
Another issue that occured was when staff did not document and inform me about sedation medication that was given to my son. I was informed about a first oral dose and told he was ok. I later learned that there was a second dose given by injection. I was never told by staff about it, I was told by my 10 year old son a day later. He was extremely upset and said they tricked him when they did it. When I called to inquire about the specifics surrounding this, no one knew other then knowing it was ordered by a provider. Circumstances were not documented, the amount of time between the doses were not documented and I was never informed. I was told by a supervisor the "issue has been escalated". I was eventually told some of the specifics after cameras were looked at.
.
When I picked up my son he couldn't stay awake during discharge. Everytime he sat down he fell asleep, and while walking he kept staggering. I continually asked if it was safe to take him home and if he was ok. That was kind of shrugged off. He was like that for two days. Just so drugged up he couldn't function. That was also really scary.
Well. Once home a few days, and the drugs out of his system, the issues were so much worse I had to call the police, which I have never had to do. I'm guessing they kept him so drugged that there was no way to really address the issues. So I don't understand. I at one point asked for a list of drugs he was given and when he was given them so I knew exactly what was given and when exactly they started tapering his other meds. I was never given that.

So while I think some providers have good intentions and do care. I think overall this place needs some training to their staff on procedures, communication and what is and is not appropriate.

My granddaughter was admitted because she threaten suicide since she has been there. She has been attacked by another patient that wasn’t even in the same unit as her. The patient left her unit and came into her unit and attacked her. I am just wondering where the staff was when this happened And then they send me her evaluation report and about 50% of it is wrong. She went there because she threatened suicide. They have on the report that she’s homicidal which is absolutely not true I don’t know where they even came up with that. Even her Caseworker from the Missouri department of social service is flabbergasted by It. This place is very incompetent. The staff is incompetent or they would be watching the patients and someone would not be able to leave their unit and go to a whole other unit and assault another child, I would never in my life send my child here again. I’m sure there’s other options out there. Just a warning to anyone that is thinking about placing their child in this environment. It is not safe and they are not knowledgeable.

This amazing hospital and their incredible staff saved my brother’s life! After several years of my brother being misdiagnosed and improperly medicated, Springfield Behavioral Hospital was finally able to properly diagnose and therefore properly medicate my brother.
