The service and hassle to get a drink here was exhausting, and the payoff isn’t especially worth it. It’s just fine, but there are plenty of other bars to try in the city that’ll give you a better experience.

They heavily recommend reservations, and so we made one, but we wound up having to wait about 45 minutes past our reservation time before a table was available because they had to “kick some people out”. The hotel had the poor front desk employee doing triple duty as both the receptionist for the hotel, the host for this bar, and coordinating the valet, which certainly appeared to contribute to the slow down.

Your mileage may vary on the speakeasy atmosphere. The “hidden door” is right next to the bright and busy front desk, which doesn’t lend much of an air of a hidden and illicit establishment of old. The space is pretty modern looking in general and doesn’t really make one think of historic KC, plus their music playlist was either silent at times or very loud. Funnily enough, it sounded very much like wedding music, with plenty of classic 60s-70s love ballads and pop songs. Nothing objectively wrong with that, but just funny in the context of enjoying a prohibition-era speakeasy while Bill Withers’ “Lovely Day” is blasting on the sound system.

Compare that mental image to Swordfish Tom’s, where you enter through a quiet alleyway and walk through multiple stairs and doors before reaching the bar, and inside is full of the beautiful old brick walls and a historic-looking engine and old-timey decor, lush and interesting seating areas, and just enough background noise for privacy without the need to shout at one another.

Once we got inside, there were plenty of open tables, which was frustrating to see after being made to wait so long owing to table availability. Service was polite but slow, and it took a lot of time both to order and have our drinks served. It looked like there was only one bartender making drinks and maybe at most two waiters, which felt like an understaffing problem once again. By the time we had our drinks in hand, it was about 90 minutes past our original reservation time!

The drinks themselves were about $15 each and tasty, (hence it retaining 3 stars in this review) but ultimately not worth the effort to get there. A note for future guests as well - they add a compulsory 20% tip. Our bill was modest - there were only a handful of us, and we ordered one drink each - which makes this compulsory tip feel atypical and off-putting. We would have happily tipped 20% if given the choice, but having our choice taken away is an icky feeling and a bad way to end the experience.

Great Speak Easy. Very comfortable. Fully stocked bar. Great service. We started with the show at Le Petit and ended up here for a couple more drinks

Little too loud in the main seating area, but near the bar, the high tables were nice and quiet.

Drinks were delicious and service was great. We always like to experience the various speakeasy vibes out there and how each place will bring it to life. The vibes here were probably some of our least favorite that we’ve visited and it felt a little more commercialized than others we’ve been to. Still a good experience we would recommend!

This place has all of the makings of an intimate speakeasy, yet failed to deliver on drinks and ambiance. The drinks were overly sweet and unbalanced, and the music they were playing sounded like someone’s high school playlist- Smashmouth-Allstar, Celine Dion-My Heart Will Go On, Kiss Me- Six Pence None the Richer, Radiohead-Creep, etc. Not the classy, jazzy vibe one would expect from a place like this in the basement of a nice hotel.
I think with some improvements, this place could be a hotspot.

We loved feeling like we were sneaking into an old speakeasy. Our drinks were fabulous, as was the service. Definitely recommend!

Dark, chill atmosphere. Lady had three different cocktails, enjoyed them all. Bartender made me a fancy mocktail without asking. That's a quality gesture. We did a crossword. And the photo booth is a nice touch.

Love this place, drinks were so good! We requested naked and fam’s which is off menu item. Bartender (Bree) brought us exactly what we wanted and she was really skilled behind the bar! Will definitely back

Waited 90 min to get a table, the bar was only half full, waited 15 min for service and got none. If I could give 0 stars I would.

Went in on a Monday. Our Bartender Bri was amazing 5 stars for them. However, the entrance door bouncer was absolutely rude and terrible. First impressions left a fowl feeling before going in. Apart from that interaction a lovely space.

Great drink options and a really cool space. Can't wait to go back! Highly recommended if waiting for a show at the Folly.

Such a fantastic experience. Honestly, the Hotel's front desk workers were the best part. Funniest people and super nice.

What a cool little speakeasy in the Hotel Phillps. Some good cocktail selections at reasonable prices as well as a chill low light vibe atmosphere.

Dark and moody where secrets stay hidden and deals are made. The Bananas Foster Old Fashioned is dangerously delicious.

This is a wonderful bar experience. When i was there, the drinks were crafted expertly, the staff was aweome, and they had live music, which was great!

As a lover of art deco and speakeasies, I was really excited to check this bar out. It met expectations, but I have to give a special shout out to Topher, the bartender while we were there. He did a fantastic job mixing drinks and talking cocktails and the city with us, so much so we decided to swing back by after our show ended. When we did, Topher was holding down the entire bar by himself which is no mean feat as anyone who has ever worked hospitality will know. So props to him.

Overall, very cool atmosphere, pretty good cocktail list, good staff, we’ll be back!

We made reservations on OpenTable and the place was closed. Pretty sure it was closed all weekend (New Years weekend) and instead of telling people it was closed they were saying there weren’t any reservations. When we finally got a reservation, we were told it was closed.
