Q39 - Midtown reviews
16Great menu, fantastic food! Service is top-notch and atmosphere is really good. My fave BBQ place in KC so far.
Amazing! We were here for the Dallas Cowboys vs Kanas City Chiefs game. First time in Kansas so trying Kansas City BBQ was a must! People recommended Gates, Jack Stack’s, Arthur Bryant and Q39. We chose Q39…and they didn’t disappoint. The ribs just fell off the bone and you could taste the smoke in every bite (no bbq sauce needed). The chicken quarter was my favorite! OMG! Flavor! The chicken wings were also good, however, they are breaded and I don’t like breaded wings but still good flavor for wings that are breaded. The burnt end burger was yummy (by this point I’m full as a tick). We ordered every meat on the menu except brisket; not a fan of brisket. The sides were all amazing except the Mac & cheese. I’m not a pasta fan so my opinion on this May be questionable; I’m a protein, carnivore kinda girl but the baked beans were FIRE (they are sweet FYI). The one bad thing I can say about this place is the apple crumble pie wasn’t sweet at all. The granola crumble was yummy but the pie itself was definitely lacking and it was crowded! We ordered our food online and brought it back to the hotel but other than that 10’s 10’s across the board!
Q39 is a spiritual experience that lives up to all the great reviews. Some of the best meat I've ever put in my mouth!
The place is the best. Good portions, everything was perfect! From Houston will be back! Highly recommend?
We were passing through and looking for some good BBQ. This place had great reviews and it did not disappoint! I had the "Mr. Burns" a burnt end sandwich with pepper jack cheese and fried onions. It was superb! The meat was so tender! Sandwiches do not come with any sides which worked out great for me. My husband got the brisket dinner which came with two sides. We went in the evening on a weekday and it wasn't very busy. There were plenty of staff members so I am assuming we just beat the expected rush.
Great service and great food. Wait staff was attentive and friendly as well as offering information on meal options and giving recommendations. The atmosphere is relaxed and comfortable. I would definitely recommend stopping by if your in the area.
Delicious! Super fast, service was excellent. Amazing! During the week, not a terrible wait, we basically walked right in. On the weekends, plan to have a reservation or a very long wait.
I had pulled pork and brisket. Both meats were dry. The coleslaw said it had apple in it, I didn't have any in mine. The cucumber salad was good. The cheesecake was excellent. Our waiter was very friendly and provided great service
I simply did not enjoy my meal very much at Q39. I had the CERTIFIED ANGUS BEEF BRISKET: sliced smoked brisket • burnt ends • classic bbq sauce, and added a rib. The rib is great, although a little overcooked. It falls readily off the bone and should have a slight bite instead. The brisket was slightly dry, although the smoky flavor was good. The burnt ends were tough and flavorless. I'm not a fan of their beans, it's kind of a mushy slur versus baked beans in a sauce. Their BBQ sauce is heavily sweetened and smoky (a la liquid smoke). I asked for spicy to offset this but they offer instead a chipotle which isn't less sweet. French fries did not taste fresh. I also don't like the acoustics in here. We were in the section alongside the kitchen and although it was very early in the lunch shift and many tables were open, it was so loud I had to raise my voice to have a conversation at my table for two. Q39 has gender-specific restrooms which are accessible. There's an accessible entrance and parking in the surrounding lot. Otherwise, parking here is always a serious challenge. Arrive early to make time for parking issues.
Chanel knows her stuff, and made us first-timers feel at home right away. Half a slab of ribs is plenty for two. This meal beat any we've had from here to Wyoming on this trip.
Stopped by for dinner so there was a little wait to be served but once we had our dinner, let me tell you, it did not disappoint. The BBQ wings were cooked well and tasted great. The Pit Sandwich was good but the Mac & Cheese was OK. The dinner plate was pretty good, the ribs and the brisket was delicious but the veggies were a little but too buttery. Overall, it was a good visit with delicious food and service!
I’m being generous with the two stars. I was there at 9: 15 with a date, closing time is it until 10. My order was wrong the bacon wrapped shrimp onslaught was pleaded miserably by some lazy ready to go home server. It was dripping with slaw juice. The most overpriced poorly staffed place in the city. And it’s really a shame. Beautiful theory. Very little concept application. I’m surprised that Chef doesn’t have the ability to hire quality people. There’s got to be some professional servers in Kansas City. The second time I was there at nine and we felt like we got pushed out the door from the minute we sat down. After that I left him an email I didn’t expect a couple free dinners or anything, but I did not even hear back from him. My shadow will never darken their door again. Completely overrated my briskets better anyway
Its the classier Gates. Both amazing, both worth it, both will send you home with happy taste buds and full beyond belief?
Food was really delicious! Ribs are so tender! Brisket and burnt ends are juicy! Would definitely come back for more!
Definitely don’t know were the other reviews came from but as a foodies that travel the world I can definitely say that we ate much better meat even in small villages. We tried there pork ends and there pulled pork. And it is way less then average even at the pub sometimes you cab find better.
The lady that delivers the food was supper rude as well feels like she definitely didn’t belong to the customer service industry.
Truly fantastic, great. Top 5 bbq joints in the city. We were recommended by a friend to try out Q39 as some of the best BBQ in KC, and we were not disappointed.
Our server was incredibly friendly and gave good recommendations (but to be fair, probably anything she said would've been a 10/10 anyway).
Come here and leave in a wheelbarrow. Get the porkbelly appetizer, thank me later.
We had the brisket. I’ve had better sliced brisket, but that’s the best burnt ends I have ever had.
I could leave the bbq sauce, glad it’s on the side. It’s the typical molasses of the Midwest. Not bad, just not my style. Fries were crispy, the little cucumber salad was good. Others in our party had the ribs, they were good.
