Rubens Barber Shop reviews
5Very frustrating to communicate with some of their barbers unless you speak Spanish
They got me in quick on a walk in but for the actual cut they did literally the opposite of what I told the guy to do and my beard was really uneven…
My barber here misinterpreted the hair cut that I wanted they ended up cutting off half my hair that took me 2 years to grow out they left my hair lopsided and had other barbers come over to help it’s almost like the barber was still in training … the only reason I give a 2 star and not a 1 star is because they have very fast seating they are nice people and it’s only 20$ -30$
$25 today. Although it’s not the insanely low price as when I first came in 2018, Ruben’s is my go-to barbershop. I’m a south asian dude with thick wavy hair. I get a fade here, and it’s always better than what anyone else gives me. They do the neck and ears with a straight razor and put on some aftershave after every cut. There are other barber shops that charge less than Ruben’s, but the consistency of great haircuts I’ve gotten here is beyond anything else I’ve had elsewhere for a similar price. The experienced barbers teach the younger ones, and it feels like you’re watching masters at work here.
Cash only. Plan ahead to avoid their ATM’s fee. Some of the barbers speak mainly Spanish. You’ll get exactly the cut you want, but depending on who does it and what language you speak, you might miss out on some good conversation.
The wait on weekends can get up to an hour or more. They don’t take appointments, so sign in on the clipboard in the back left corner and hang out. If you really want quick excellent service, go early on a weekday.
One time I showed up right at 8 and no one was there, but they were open and ready to go by 8: 30 or 9. Ira Sr.was really friendly and took the time to make sure he knew exactly what I wanted. He cleaned up my beard on the house under the condition that I come back. He also enthusiastically conversed with me in Spanish to help me improve my speaking. Great barbers here, and great people in general. Flaco is one of the best barbers I’ve ever met. The younger guys usually have some good music playing.
