When I moved to Columbia, first thing I noticed was my credit rating was too low to rent anything. The Harbor house took me in, didn't charge me anything, just asked me to save atleast half of my paychecks for future housing, stayed there 3 months, found a good job, worked on my credit and left just right before my 90 days. Today my credit score is now high enough to rent apartments, I'm driving a fairly new car, and got credit cards for emergencies now, funny how I got this started with a secured credit card, now I have 2 more real credit cards, Thanks Harbor House!

They told me themselves they couldn't help my acquaintance with shelter because they're always full and can't take in more than a small portion of those in need. Who do they call if the "emergency shelter" can't help in an emergency?

This place is a scam.tried to drop off clothes and gloves for the homeless with the cold weather coming and was told they don't accept any donations.

I need to take the donations to the store so they can sell the items.

Can they explain how does that system work for the homeless who have no money.

Shameful.

I'm sure there is a legitimate charity in Columbia where they can get clothing for free.

This place helped a Father and his daughter out that I know. Great place but their employee Gina could definitely be replaced.

I stayed at Harbor House with my girlfriend a few years ago and have only wonderful things to say. I came in from work late and always enjoyed talking to Julia when i got in. We were able to save money to get an apartment with the help we received.
Sure the food can be iffy and yeah sometimes the staff may not have talked to someone like they wanted to be talked to.but could you imagine working that job and dealing with all the different personalities?
Anyone who did the right thing and worked to better themselves got the help that they needed here.

They are amazing! They will help you if you are willing to help yourself, but they won’t put up with nonsense. Go to them when you are ready to change your life.

So im homeless in Columbia, thought about trying the salvation army again, but I'm skeptical because the last time I had to leave because the administration there told me that I had to basically let them be over my ssi check. And that alone sounded sketchy so i had to leave and sleep in my car and pretty much thats how its been since then. Times are very tough out here. Im barely making it and im single, i can only imagine how hard it is for a family of 4 etc. I'm actually not aware of any law that permits an organization such as the salvation army, the right to intervene with a persons only income, in this manner. In fact I was advised that either I give them consent or I'm not allowed to stay but only that one night. I will be conducting an in depth research on this subject at hand and if I find out by higher sources within the salvation army and outside of it, that this is not permitted, then I will be filing a complaint!
