Shakespeare Chateau Inn Bed & Breakfast reviews
16Thank you for letting us know before we booked that you follow the lying cdc and their politically motivated guidelines. Glad we didn't waste the money with a business owner that doesn't welcome people with common sense. Enjoy your face diapers and Sheep's milk.
One of a kind! Old world charm and a true mansion with unbelievable quality throughout. Excellent luxury with quality sleeping, excellent breakfasts and service. We really enjoyed our stay! Thank you Isobel.
Our recent stay at the Shakespeare Chateau was one we will always remember. The renovated mansion is absolutely beautiful. Isobel gave us such a warm welcome that we felt comfortable during our entire stay. We also enjoyed meeting other guests at breakfast. St. Joseph has many museums and places of interest but our stay would not have been the same without the time spent at Shakespeare Chateau. We definitely recommend it and would love to stay there again.
Shakespeare Chateau is the very definition of a destination stay. This historic 1888 mansion is so beautifully restored and furnished it will take your breath away. The rooms have modern amenities while also still immersing you in the original history of the home. Isobel is so knowledgeable not only about her Inn, but also the history of Hall Street and the other remaining mansions there and around St. Joseph. Breakfasts are served at the time of your choosing and always deliciously prepared and beautifully presented. Whether you love the bed & breakfast experience or have never tried it, I can with great confidence tell you the Shakespeare Chateau will not disappoint.
Marvelous grand home! We loved our stay! We enjoyed walking around the historic mansion area. Nice, safe, walk to downtown. The breakfast was fantastic! We've stayed at many B&B mansions. The Shakespeare Chateau Inn is right at the top!
So very disappointed. We were scheduled to stay here but due to the lack of following ADA laws we have been forced to cancel our stay. I have a service dog who was not going to be permitted to do his full job to help me due to the lack of ADA laws. When I tried to kindly explain them I was basically told my needs don’t matter. We were looking forward to staying here and it ruined an important weekend.
Paranoid staff. Got scolded for reading the plaque on the historic building next door. We just looked for 10 seconds. Touched nothing, did nothing, didn’t even step on the grass. Not a nice introduction to St Joe.
Home is extremely well preserved and modernized appropriately. Lots of original stained glass and fabulous woodwork, yet heat and A/C and lots of lighting everywhere you walk makes it feel modern while living in 19th century opulence. Much more beautiful than the website photos can display. Owner, Isobel, was very helpful in accommodating dietary requirements. It's a relaxing yet invigorating place to stay in St. Joe.
This is a wonderful place. The historical value along with the fantastic restoration, especially the stained glass windows and woodwork, make the visit worth it alone. We stayed in the Verona suite which was clean, comfortable and very spacious. The crustless quiche we have for breakfast was one of the best I ever had, got the recipe. Isobel gave us a tour of the place giving us even more insight to the history of the mansion. Fantastic place, highly recommend it.
A lovely house and with a lovely host. My girlfriend and I were able to get a last second room in The Twelfth Night Suite. Beautiful high ceilings and an extremely comfortable bed. The breakfast in the morning was delicious.
Wonderful historic home! Location close to downtown St. Joe, MO. Hostess was extremely delightful and most enjoyable breakfast. Plan to visit again.
We booked this to try something new and we definitely was not disappointed. Upon arrival the place was beautiful. We were greeted by Isobel who was very nice. She explained how everything worked and showed us around. So much history! 7 foot stained glass panels in the staircase that has dragons carved in them. They place was so quiet. Everything was very clean. We could come and go as we please. The breakfast was delicious scones and fresh fruit because we wanted a lighter breakfast. They shoes were amazing! Would definitely recommend staying here.
We stayed in the Verona suite. The bed was one of the most comfortable beds I have ever slept in! The room was spacious and beautifully decorated, as is the entire home. The hostess was welcoming and attentive to our needs, and the breakfast was delicious. I highly recommend this bed and breakfast.
We went for a tour, the house is magnificent and the owner has done a wonderful job restoring the B and B. We plan on staying for our upcoming anniversary
Wonderful historical bed and breakfast.a Beautiful place to stay when in St Joseph's MO.
What an incredible place paired with equally incredible service.
The Chateau was gorgeous and full of history. I’ve never seen a place with such beautiful woodwork and stained glass windows. Isobel was so kind to answer all my questions and dive into the history of St. Joe and the house itself, clearly a huge passion of hers. My wife and I stayed in the Romeo and Juliet suite and it was so cozy we had a hard time leaving. I was impressed how clean and functional everything was given the age of the home, Isobel left no detail untouched.
Isobel was always available to address our needs. I showed up to breakfast an hour early one morning by accident and that didn’t matter, she adjusted for me. The next morning I showed up an hour late to breakfast, when I went downstairs expecting to only have coffee available, she still prepared and served us our breakfast which was so kind and not expected.
My only concern before arriving was the location not being very central. Turns out I was wrong. My wife and I could get to any of the restaurants downtown or off Fredrick in 3 to 5 min drive. Everywhere else in town could be driven to within 10min.
We’ll be back.
(PS - Glory is wearing a jacket in photos only because we were on our way out the door. The home was set a very comfortable temperature and our room had an independent thermostat just for us.)
