Shear Madness Haircuts for Kids, Kansas City MO

Do NOT take mixed children here. They clearly do not know how to cut curly hair. Took my 2yo son for his first haircut. His hair was quite long. Asked for the sides to be faded with a #3 on top to keep it longer but even. They did not listen to a single part of it since he looks bald with a #1 all around his head. If you don’t understand or know what you are doing say that and we can go elsewhere. We will never be back! Absolutely horrible experience steer clear if you have curly hair!

We tried to get appointments at two other shops because the last time we went to Shear Madness (Olathe) they did a rough job, but I figured we’d give this one a shot since it was a different location. As we walked in, a mom was angry at the stylist because the back of the cut was uneven and the stylist tried to tell her it was a cowlick (it wasn’t). Unfortunately we got the same stylist and I showed her a pretty common boys cut (shaved sides, LONG on top). My son came in with a lot of length so it shouldn’t have been an issue. Tell me why this lady cut his hair so short and unevenly that the only way to fix it would be to shave him? At the register, the manager saw it and offered to fix his bangs (since one half is up to his scalp and the other half was longer), but I said no because I didn’t want it any shorter. My poor kid left there so sad about his hair. Unfortunately, we’re just going to have to let it grow out a bit and gel it so it doesn’t look so awful. This was the final straw for Shear Madness and we’ll never be back

My fiancé, took our son to get his haircut. Our appointment was at 1: 15. He said when he got there there was a lady on the phone that just totally ignored him and nobody else was there. He waited for a little bit and then he finally just told my son to go pick out a seat,  the woman from the front totally ignored him and walked to the back. He said about 5 to 10 minutes later that woman and another woman came out. One of the women had tattoos on her arms. He said he couldn’t remember her name, but she looked drugged out and started talking to my fiancé to begin my sons haircut when my son was getting Squamish because he was afraid of the clippers my fiancé asked her if they could use the clippers that are quiet I know that sounds funny, but they’ve used them before there, this is not our first time going and the lady acted like she didn’t know what he was talking about and then she asked my fiancé why my son was making funny noises and if he was OK because he kept moving around totally inappropriate first of all, you work in a business that revolves around cutting small children’s hair and a lot of those small children are afraid I was just very disappointed and if I had been there, I would’ve definitely spoken up. He just wanted to hurry up and get the haircut done he didn’t want to say anything because he didn’t want her to maybe purposely cut our son because she was frustrated or something but he said both of them were very rude and suspicious looking like they had been doing drugs and they were the only two in the shop and no other people were there 10/24/23

Canceled our appointment last minute. This was a special treat for her birthday. Very disappointed.

I took my granddaughter to this location in Northland Kansas City, it was horrible. I was told that the stylist are able to style ethnic hair which was a lie. We came in and paid for service that we did not receive. I paid for a Diva Day with a hairstyle and got a messy nail no manicure or pedicure. Her makeup made her look like a clown. They were braiding her hair like Buckwheat, not sectioned or combs. Her hair was dirty and dry. The manager gave us a mean stare the entire time and stated that was being rude and disrespectful to one of workers in which I wasn't. I felt so unwelcome and uncomfortable. I paid for something that a 10 year old could have done. She was so upset that didn't get what she was expecting for her first salon experience. As a licensed cosmetologist, this location is not trained to style hair for Black children. Only one stylist came to help that was nice. I give the entire experience a 1/2 star. They should do better.

UPDATE: My kids got their hair cut by Jean and she did a wonderful job. We will request her again!

Sadly, we didn't have a good experience getting our haircut. Hopefully, this was unusual because they get lots of business.

If you have a challenging toddler, they have the staff to handle the job. Excellent results with a first timer!

We love Miss Kenna and Miss Holly! They both do a phenomenal job! I took my son to Shear Madness - Northland for his very first haircut about 2-3 years ago. Since then, this is the only place we go for his haircut. He actually looks forward to coming here. Miss Kenna and Miss Holly are both very patient, quick at what they do & great at keeping kiddos entertained. Thanks so much again ladies!

Great experience the first two times. They do everything the can to make it as fun for kids as possible. Stickers, temporary tattoos, fun jewelry, candy and toys. The staff is great with kids too. Can be a little expensive especially with the additions but makes it much more enjoyable when your kid is having fun. Well worth it.

We absolutely love Miss Kenna! We won't make appointments with anyone else. She is so good with our kids and knows exactly what we want each time. She's very personable and the kids just adore her. 5 stars for Miss Kenna!

Kenna is the reason we come back here time and time again. She’s so kind and genuine and is so great at what she does. This place is lucky to have her and she absolutely loves kids and is so good with our son.

We've been coming here to see Kenna for years now, and she's done an excellent job each time! The kids love her and she makes them feel comfortable and at ease. Kenna delivers a great service each time. The establishment is always clean and orderly. I would highly recommend her!

Unless you have an appointment don’t both going here. I showed up at opening to get a quick haircut for my child. They had 3 beauticians in store and only one lady that had an appointment. They said the soonest they could see me was the next day in the afternoon! So they proceeded to turn me and another lady away so their beauticians could continue to stand around and do nothing. Wonderful business model.

Lots of toys and prizes right when you walk into the shop. The shop is clean and the ladies are super friendly/kind. They took both my kids and gave them the haircut. Kenna is amazing at distracting the kids while she cuts their hair.

Holly did amazing with my 7 year old:) always the best customer service when we come here! Kayt at the front was amazing the minute we walked in to the minute we left! Making our experience even better! She is so good with kids! I’d give 10 stars if I could! Love the atmosphere here! My kid always looks forward to coming here!

3/29 If you have little kids this is probably what you are looking for. Like a first haircut, if they are babies or toddlers. As for me, well we were pretty disappointed in this place.

It was a 2 week wait so my expectations were pretty high. I set my girls up with a hair cut, tinsel & a manicure.

The hair cut was simple, just 4 inches off that was fine. They had boss baby playing & the interior of the place was a great vibe. Super cute. Toys, fun colors. That's probably where we should ended it.

The tinsel was an odd experience the girls said, they asked it have it in one place & she put it where she wanted it.

The manicure? Well I could've done a better job of globbing it on their fingers too. Lasted about the 40 minute drive home.

One hair cut, tinsel & the worst nail job I've seen? $70

The ladies were friendly enough, but maybe they should work work on what they are selling.

I've seen all the other reviews & I'm glad everyone else has had a great experience. But it was a hit or miss for us since it was our first & last time.

3/30 never mind, nail polish & tinsel is out already. So I paid $70 for a 4in trim.

I took my son there for the first time ever and both ladies there were AMAZING! They helped distract not only him, but also my five year old daughter that was not getting a haircut, thus allowing me to bounce back and forth between children. My son had such a fun time, he threw a (shortlived) fit because he didn't want to leave. I will be returning there again and again and again. This salon is the absolute BEST place to take your kids.

I really dislike how this location goes about scheduling here. The last two times I have scheduled an appointment for my son I have specifically scheduled with Holly. The first time they gave his appointment to a different stylist who butchered his hair, it was so bad I had to take him back the same day to have it almost completely buzzed off. Again today I specifically scheduled with Holly and planned my whole weekend around that because she has limited availability. 10 minutes before his appointment I get a text saying that he was rescheduled with another stylist. Apparently another client who was not scheduled took my child's appointment. I was not contacted before this change was made and had no choice in the matter. We also didn't have the choice of waiting for her either and forced to go with another stylist. This all just seems very unprofessional.

I’m so happy I picked this place for my sons first haircut. Alicia did so good with him especially with him being a toddler and not sitting still. She did a wonderful job and cutting & styling his hair. Will definitely be back!
