Smokebox BBQ Cafe

Sitting at the Smoke Box now, having spent a week in the KC area. It was one of those trips where you just keep getting horrid food no matter where you go or how much you’re willing to spend. So, here we are the night before leaving town, and this place is down the street from our hotel, so we read the good reviews and one lukewarm one, and ventured on in.
Let me tell you, I am so glad we did! Not only was my faith in eating out restored, but I had a great dinner that was not only delicious, but also served to us by a great server with a upbeat personality and a big smile.
My friend ordered the pulled pork and the brisket and was thrilled with both. I should mention he loves smoked flavor and said both were delicious and not overly Smokey.
I had the burnt ends and ribs with fries and bbq beans. The burnt ends made my whole day and the bbq beans had pieces of pork that added to the wonderful flavor. The fries were Steak fries (my favorite kind of fries!) that were crispy and hot and perfect. I will say as some other reviewer mentioned that the ribs had a smoked flavor with bbq sauce on it, but the place is called the Smoke box, so I suppose one should expect a Smokey flavor.
All in all a wonderful experience that we will repeat every time we visit!

Here you will find great bar-b-que, you pay for what get. A little spendy at $20 per person, but worth the money if you love bbq.

We have ate here on several occasions when staying across the street at the Embassy Suites. The food is excellent. It has great barbecue flavor and they serve you very quickly. The two meat dinner is a large sized portion.

I nice place with good food. Not only is it good, you get a large amount of it from some friendly staff. Don’t let the outside fool you. Stop by and get some good food.

The hotel we stayed at recommended this place so I took the entire family.
We had the baby back ribs slab, three meat combo (brisket, sausage, turkey) with a couple of burgers.
The meats were all dry and the BBQ sauce tasted like the commercial bottled kind (not memorable). Maybe we got whatever was left over from the earlier shift, cause we did go before closing. Service was good though.
I'd give it another chance, but during lunch hour maybe.

Smells heavenly when you walk in. Beans are sweet and saucey. Beef brisket sandwich pretty good. Taste is somewhere between KC masterpiece and Zarda.

Food was very delicious and well cooked. Only issue was portion size for the price! Def recommend and I will visit again next time I’m in town

We love this place! Small, family owned, great food and very good service. I'm deducting one star this time because a service charge was added to our bill without telling us. Maybe it says something about that on the menu (there were 8 of us) but like most people, I assume, I added a generous tip and didn't notice the up-charge. Bad on me for not checking the ticket more closely, but it might have been nice if we had been told about it.
We still love this place, and we'll be back, but next time I'll look at the tab closer before adding on a tip.

Flying into MCI and not going to be in Kansas City long, but want amazing BBQ? This place will not disappoint!
Or do you just love BBQ and want a new place to try? We've all been to the top 5 local stops.now I challenge you find the smaller local spots! You will not be disappointed with this one! Bonus! They will cater and deliver.

This is one great BBQ Café.
They have a hot and sweet BBQ sauce, that is quite tasty. A must try when you are in the area.

My wife, me and our 4 kids went to eat at this restaurant and enjoyed the food. The service however was lackluster due to the waitress not being attentive to our needs. When we received our bill the waitress automatically added gratuity of 20% without prior communication. We had to ask what is was and why it was automatically added. Her response was if a party of 6 or more people the system adds the fee. I am all about tipping good but not forced especially when not advised ahead of time.

It’s okay, nothing to write home about. Pulled pork and brisket were decent, beans and cheesy corn were not good. Staff was friendly and service was quick, but we won’t be back.

Very friendly people at Eleos coffee house - their “about us” / “purpose” section is worth a read - “catalyst for community transformation” in addition to good coffee and things to eat

This is my wife’s account. - It was pretty expensive but it smelled amazing. The Ribs were somewhere between beef jerky and shoe leather. The coleslaw had the consistency of cabbage floating in Mayo. But at least the H2O was ok. Took first batch back the second was maybe more towards Jerky than shoe leather but I could only choke one Rib down before my stomach started hurting. I’m a guy, I don’t have problems with meat often. I don’t review often, but this gave KC BBQ a bad name.

It was okay this was close to our hotel and just drove over 7 hours to get here we wanted BBQ but they covered the meat with BBQ sauce THAT'S SOOOOOO WRONG for me it's like putting A1 on a ribeye steak your covering up the natural greatness of the meat

High quality meats with what I believe was a honey and ketchup based sauce combined to make an amazing sandwich. I highly recommend!
