Smokehouse Barbecue - Kansas City, MO (Zona Rosa) reviews
19Visited before cheifs game. Had the 3 meat plate of turkey, brisket and pulled pork. Meats were all delicious. Personally enjoyed the turkey the best. Sides of fries and potato salad were great. Highly recommend.
Food is consistent, I’m a huge fan of their ranch dressing! It must be a super secret recipe! I am obsessed with their cauliflower appetizer! I usually get the burnt ends but the super crispy for lunch is super good and you will not be disappointed
Excellent food, excellent service. This is one of my all-time favorite barbeque restaurants in KC and I've lived here my entire life. I highly recommend the Super Crispy sandwich. It is delicious. Make sure to ask for some extra sauce though. And, the beans are amazing. Fries are really good too. Also, the smoked 1/2 chicken is very tasty. I love the upscale atmosphere for a bbq place too. I highly recommend.
Absolutely the worst BBQ in KC. Service is horrible BBQ is over sauced to hide the over cooked meat! If your flying in from out of town go to Q39, Bryant’s. Gates, Slaps, Joe’s KC, or Jack Stack for real KC BBQ
This place had one of the best barbecues that I've ever eat. My son had the captain Dan seafood platter that was out of this world world. The service is spectacular. The weight staff is very efficient. And it is very clean and orderly. Food delivered hot and in a timely manner and we had a large crowd it's crowd. Thank you for your time and making my daughters Is a very special event
I got a sandwich and it was In fact a sandwich. It was kind of dry, It tastes good I guess It wasn't bad. It was just like food. There's no other way to explain it. Would I go here again? I guess?
When we entered there was no greeting, just a wide yawn by I assume the manager in a blue shirt, "how many", after I waited for him to finish yawning and giving me a good view of the inside of his mouth. The server brings me the wrong drink, I believe she really don't listen to the oder. Then does not check on refills for us at all untill we are halfway through our food. Brings me a refill but not the rest of the table who all needed at this point, 2 others. The food now is disappointing as well. We eat the N. Oak location often and know what to expect. Chewy ribs, not very warm and COLD mac and cheese. No professional level skill anywhere in that location that you pay for. Not KC at all.
We arrived extremely late, within an hour of closing, but the staff treated us like we were not creating any difficulties for them with our arrival. The barbecue was excellent, and I was impressed that the coleslaw was still fresh and crisp. We had a variety of dishes, and despite the lateness, none of the meats were dried out or overdone. We brought home leftovers, and a person who was not able to join us at the restaurant said the smoked chicken was just amazing, even though it was cold. This will be my new go-to restaurant to bring out-of-state guests who want real KC barbecue!
Went here on November 24th, 2021 and had the Gladstoner which is 2 meats chicken and sausage on french bread with fries. It was on a Wednesday for lunch and they had plenty of staff including servers. The service was excellent. I also notice no one wearing masks which I am from Omaha and the local restaurants no employee wears a mask while your chain restaurants the employees wear them. This is a little odd with how bad COVID is right now despite in August Kansas city enforcing a mask mandate then it getting struck down in early November.
Certainly not what I expected KC BBQ to taste like. Burnt ends were not burnt ends. They had no smoke flavor, bark (if any) had nearly no flavor, not tender, burnt ends was simply a cube of meat with only 1 side having any seasoning and doused in a not so great tasting bbq sauce. Perhaps the original location is better but I'm not willing to spend $100 for a family of 4 to find out.
Overpriced. Barbecue should be served with sauce on the side. Every dish in our group, sauce was already covering the meat. To make matters worse, the sauce wasn't very good. No plans for a return trip.
You do not get what you pay for. Beef burnt ends are nothing more than beef chuck, overcooked and smothered in bbq sauce. Pork burnt ends aren’t even pork belly. They are pork shoulder again smothered in bbq. I travel for work and try bbq everything. Paying $30 for cuts of meat that are $8 at most is a ripoff. Beef was dry. Pork shoulder was fine but nothing special. Bbq places usually give you the sauce on the side so you can taste the meat and rub. When food is smothered in sauce, it’s a red flag that they’re covering up bad bbq. Had I known the cuts of meat, I would’ve just got to Famous Daves for average bbq.
Not as good as I have had in past, sauce covered meat could not taste meat (not great sauce). Very stingy with beans. I will take my business elsewhere for the money.
When my family visits this is the spot we go to for dining. The prices are a bit expensive but if you're craving mouthwatering bbq'd meat then I reccomend this place. Very large and filling entrees. Kid friendly!
Had a random date night there and we got a dinner for 2. It was massive and delicious. Wasn't as expensive as I would have thought for being BBQ.
Excuse me for talking how I'm about to talk. Being a top 10% reviewer I don't usually do this but. 1st off the service was good, no complaints. The food itself was atrocious, bland, and unbelievably not right. It was extremely hard to understand how to make barbecue taste in such a fashion that it was unrecognizable from barbecue. Especially Kansas City BBQ. I'm so disappointed that I passed so many other barbecue joints on my way to this place. I will never recommend it to anybody and I will never bring this place up ever again in life. Please do not eat here. Nothing was seasoned. All the flavorings were very suspicious. The barbecue barely taste like barbecue sauce. For a place to call themselves smokehouse I guarantee you there was nothing smoked about anything. On my way into the place I was actually super suspicious about the type of wood that I seen they had outside considering they called themselves smokehouse. I held my suspicions just to try it out for myself I was very right, not good.
I’ve been to this location a few times since I moved to KC a couple of years ago. I’ve had great servers, but the most recent one I had was plain awful. I don’t recall her name but she’s probably the oldest one there. Seemed very impatient with us and just all around had a bad attitude. We could overhear her complaining about other tables and servers with whom I’m guessing was the manager. The food is always great, but knowing they have someone like that working there, it will be hard to return.
I was disappointed. Had been here years ago and the food quality was 10 times better. Great service but the food was masked in bbq sauce which was an automatic turn off. Meet was on the dry side, probably why it was flooded with sauce and the sides were bland. It is a beautiful resturant that didnt match the taste of the food.
I traveled to Kansas City hoping to find great BBQ. The food here was very sub par for the price. The ribs were overcooked to the point of being dry. The ribs and burnt ends had no sign of a smoke ring, and the meat had very little flavor. The service was slow and frankly unimpressive. I really hope to find good BBQ while I am in Kansas City, but it clearly isn't here.
