Went for a waiver for vehicles (new to MO) and found the process to be fairly quick and simple. Liked the monitors with wait times and where you are in queue.

The Assessor's office base the personal property tax of your vehicle, boat, trailer on NADA price guide. The Assessor's office does not communicate with the State of Missouri on the price YOU paid for your vehicle, boat, trailer the 1st year adding the item to the personal property declaration form. Example: YOU paid $2000 for a project boat that needs a lot of work. YOU paid sales tax at the Missouri Department of Revenue on the purchase price of $2000. The NADA states that boat is $30,000, so that's what they assess it at. The St. Charles County Assessor's office does not research/communicate with the State of Missouri to see what YOU paid. They only look at what the NADA states is the resale value of the item YOU purchased. Complete scam in my opinion. You could have a complete lemon and beater of a car that's not worth the NADA's resale value BUT the St. Charles Assessor will tax you on the high-end of what the car is worth according to the NADA price guide. OH.and they blame everything on COVID. How about blaming it on our incompetent government!
