Went twice to get my mothers knee looked at which was swollen and with fluid. He primary did a X-ray and suggested to get the fluid taken out by a orthopedic Doctor.

First time seeing Dr. Benz he gave her a cortisone shot without removing the fluid, he said it will take care of it. Spent maybe 5 minutes with us after waiting 3 months for a appointment.
Shot lasted maybe a week and pain came back and knee was swollen again.

We went back and again Dr. Benz spent few minutes and then just said she needs surgery, didn't offer to do a X-ray of the knee again or to remove the fluid. After maybe another 5 minutes with us, he said lets do a MRI and then probably surgery. I asked how about we remove the fluid first and see how that goes but he refused.

We are getting a second opinion

I went in originally to see Dr fagan. He's retired so I inquired to Dr Benz. He doesn't cover my current needs but his secretary and assistant (Amanda and Lauren) set me up with the proper office and surgeon to help me out. They went above and beyond their job and certainly are wonderful representatives for their office and profession.
Thanks

Spoke to KATRINA AND SHERRY. When did the appointment maker became a doctor. You guys really are unprofessional and the DOCTORS would have more clients without you people. DO BETTER!

Benz told me there was nothing wrong for 2 different injuries. Pain continued so I got a second opinion and both were fairly serious injuries that needed surgery to resolve.

Cannot get FMLA paperwork signed/completed, also poor communication with his staff.
Have left multiple messages about needing FMLA paperwork "signed" and turned in so my wife would not miss any checks. Took forever to get a response only tk hear that the paperwork just needed to be signed. Two weeks later, past 7 to 10 business days, and paperwork still not signed. When they did finally send in the FMLA paperwork to my wife's work she, my wife, was told it had been rejected because it was not signed by the Doctor. I personally talked to someone, who passed it along, and told them I would come and get the FMLA paperwork in person. I have yet to hear back from them. So now my wife will miss a second paycheck due to bad customer service.
This might not have bearing on the Dr. Benz work, which only happened yesterday, but it does affect YOUR choice in choosing him to operate on you depending upon your own situation.

I am not one to write many reviews, which is unfortunate considering I often go to a place with multiple good reviews. I LOVE to read them and really make sure where I am going is the right choice. Every now and then I don't read them I just check them out with looking up a single review. I have decided this one was a must though. I saw Dr. Fissel in September, one month after a pretty bad fall playing ultimate frisbee. I don't often injure myself in this sport so when I fell down and felt and heard crunching noises I knew something wasn't right. Yes, I did wait a month to see a family doctor who then recommended me to Fissel. Sorry, without being able to afford health insurance I waited. From the start I didn't feel heard, I wash brushed off pretty quickly. I had received a physical test was given some medication and told it was a sprain. 5 days later and no difference so, I stopped the medication by choice. About two weeks later I saw him again. I explained that I discontinued the medication because I felt no less pain. Once again Dr. Fissel said I just needed more time because it must have been a pretty bad sprain. So, I believed him.continued the medication a bit more but stopped once again because as before no changes. I was convinced it was just a sprain and I was anxious and needed to be patient. After a few situations of brutal pain from said August occurrence and a good amount of time later, February I went back to the family doctor and he showed concern. I told him to send me to another orthopedic because I didn't feel heard or empathy from Fissel unfortunately. Apologized for requesting a new person but needed someone else. Less than one week later the new ortho Dr. Stephen Benz did one test and told me to get an MRI to confirm the severity of an ACL tear. Here I am ready to schedule ACL reconstructive surgery and not so happy it took 7 months for me to finally stand up and find someone who could tell me I'm not crazy. Dr. Benz is heaven sent, oh my goodness! He truly took the time to hear my story, of my initial fall and these frustrating months of not knowing what was wrong. When I explained the medication wasn't working he said I never should have been given that because that doesn't cure a tear. It has been a roller coaster of emotions for a hot minute but now, I'm blessed. Blessed to know that I truly need to continue to follow my gut when I feel something is wrong. Thank you Dr. I will always remember the relief of truth, hard truth but still relieved so we can fix it! If you need a good orthopedic Dr. Benz is your guy!

Superb Surgeon and excellent staff of care givers. Had knee surgery last week where the entire process from Dr. Benz's evaluation, the day of surgery and post operation care was superior. I recall at least ten specialized nurses attended to my care with kindness and professionalism.
