Umi Japanese Restaurant, Springfield MO

A must stop for aAtrue taste of Japanese sushi in Springfield, MO. Never a disappointment. The nigiri and shashimi is high quality. Highly recommend the gyoza and kissy kissy roll. For those just starting to try sushi get the Springfield roll it does not have fish but instead steak. A perfect gateway starter. There Coconutty martinis are also a must try for anyone who enjoys sweet fruity adult beverages. They also have dishes you would find at a hibachi grill. (Sorry they cook it in the kitchen not at the table.) The atmosphere is perfect for date or quiet evening.

This place is great! Good atmosphere excellent sushi and great service. Steven my server was top notch definitely recommend.

What a delightful find this little restaurant was! I was in town to see my daughter in college and we were both in the mood for sushi. Oddly, in the Springfield area, Asian restaurants close at 2pm and then open later for dinner. Umi was about 5 down on Yelp recommended that is even open through from lunch until dinner so we gave it a shot. I LOVED the cozy ambience with warm & welcoming dim lighting, which would be really great for a date night. My daughter and I wanted time to visit and the waitress was very polite and accommodating with our “slower” pace. We started with a sampling of small plates (gyoza, a sushi roll, and shrimp tempura). Then we both had hibachi for the main course. Of course dessert, which was delicious as well. Will make this a regular tradition when visiting Springfield!

I've had Japanese cuisine coast to coast and Umi has earned the top slot with their portion size, customer service, and food quality. I will definitely be back!

It's been a long time. I forgot how good the sushi is here. The nigiri was probably the best I've had locally. I really need to get in the habit of taking photos.

Always have a nice experience there. Thier sushi is amazing and the crab ragoons and calamari are some of the best in Springfield

Being from out of town this restaurant wasn't to hard to find just driving around. Walking in the atmosphere is definitely inviting, cozy and comfortable. A great place for a family meal but equally as nice for a date night. We were welcomed right away and sat within 3 minutes. The server was very conversational and super nice. We ordered the crab bombs and the seafood seaweed salad for appetizers as well as the bomb roll, the kiss & cry roll and the geisha roll. All of which were incredible. I would definitely recommend this restaurant.

The facility was very nice and clean. Our server was very friendly and helpful, and made some gr at suggestions. The appetizers and sushi were excellent and delicious, with plenty to share.

It was an off night when i stopped for a quick bite. No one acknowledged my presence when i entered. So I stood there for a few, then started towards the bar. The waiter was pouring wine into a beaker. Then poured this into a wine glass (no free pouring here lol).
Another person came out and was more attentive and took my order. He suggested the ring calamari, which i ordered. The breading on the calamari was less than desirable. The I ordered was fine, just disappointed with the breading.

The atmosphere was amazing and the sushi was some of the absolute best I have had. Made date night great. Staff was great and checked up on us and made sure we had all we needed.

An amazing experience! The textures and flavors of authentic Japanese cuisine. Love the atmosphere and lowered lighting. We all agreed we are returning and often.

This Is the place you go when you want to believe in magic and every bite! This is one of those restaurants that every bite is so amazing;You wonder how it's possible!

The Sushi here is off the chain! The choices are phenomenal and the prices for such an array is adequate. I love this place

Staff was welcoming, attentive and I loved that our recommended some of his personal favorite sushi rolls on the menu. I loved the dim lighted ambiance and decor. Food was top notch delicious. Price was amazing for quality fine dining. Highly recommend this hidden gem.

Great Food and Great Service. Touchdown Roll, Spicy Crab Roll, Gyoza, and Crab Poppers. Any roll purchase comes with soup and salad so you can have a Great value meal as well. Neat Decor. Clean Bathrooms as well.

Best Japanese place I've ever been to. The grab poppers are to die for! The staff is always friendly and has a smile in their face, the Mood is relaxing and quiet. I'm not a sushi eater but my brother said the sushi was absolutely amazing!

This place is unsanitary, when I received my order a big cockroach was is my food! When i brought this to their attention they threw me out of the restaurant and still charged me for the meal I didn’t even get a chance to eat!
