Urban Chestnut Grove Brewery and Bierhall, St. Louis MO

Lacks atmosphere. The food was good but they could make it easier to order. The beer was average at best.

Outstanding Beer selection. They don't have a lot food to choose from, but it is very good and priced fairly.

If the Beer was a little bit cheaper, I would give them 5 stars, though it's not out of line with other STL bars.

Of course, great bier! Always! The Grove Brewery is super family friendly, big and spacious, and a place where you don’t have to worry about your kids being too noisy. The food was excellent. We got the bratwurst platter and a couple of pretzels stick orders. Loved all of them! A great spot to stop for lunch after a morning at the zoo! Street parking was fairly easy to find! Loved our visit!

Massive space and decent atmosphere. The food really wasn't for me, and it's a small menu, so if it's not your style, there isn't much to choose from. Wasn't too busy when we went, so it made for a lovely evening on the patio.

I've been here several times, and it's always a fun atmosphere and good food.

Tonight, we tried a pepperoni pizza and wouldn't recommend this to anyone. The dough seems undercooked. They remade it once, and the second time was better, but still too chewy. It looks like too much cheese that is preventing a full cook. There's good flavor, just needs some tweaking.

Great bierhall style place to enjoy brews and food. Beers were great. Food was over priced, but tasted good, and to be honest, you don't go for the food, you go for the beer.

Let me start off by saying, this place was highly recommended to me by everyone. I came in with my five month old in a stroller and although I was offered the small lift to the main bar/small eatery, it didn’t work. Three employees tried to make it work but to no avail.

It may boast to be a family friendly place, but the lack of high chairs, non-booth sitting made that statement false. To add to that, we observed the hostess yell at a family with kids to restrict them to their table - even though this place has very much open-seating, and many also choose to just stand around, totally normal.

Draft selection is absolutely outstanding, as well as their liquor.
As far as food, I found it a bit odd that you couldn’t order food from the bar, but nonetheless it wasn’t a problem. What *was* a problem, however, was the undisclosed added gratuity to tickets. As a decade-long service industry worker and bartender, I understand that it may be easier, but it should be stated on their drink/draft menu for complete transparency. One of our guests actually ended up tipping $60 over their tab which sadly, included their 20% tip already. $60 for our tab was more than 20%, almost 3X as much, but the sour taste it left us was discouraging for a next visit.

Lastly, we opened a tab and the bartenders couldn’t find it, definitely embarrassing if you’re trying to order to rejoin your party.

My girlfriends co workers wanted to meet up here for a small going away party there was plenty of seating indoors and outdoors. The beer selection is pretty good I thought there was a beer for everyone, they have all kinds of flavors. For food we had ordered a pizza it was delicious not a fan of the burnt crust but still great pizza. You can also bring your dog if you sit on the outdoor area. Also had a small dog water dish for the dogs I just went inside and they would fill it up. Thank you for the great time! Will definitely be back.

Tried the Stan Musial. It was very good. I tried a slice of mushroom pizza. Very nice! Prices were fair. I was disappointed when I tried to order a burger off the menu from the bar. That was a dinner menu, and they were only serving lunch menu. Then why were the dinner menus out on the bar? After ordering our food, I was asked for a phone number so they could text us when the food was up. When the food came up, they just brought it to us. So why did I have to give my number? Guess I will be getting spam texts after the sell my number.

Nice very large beer hall with a wide variety of beers on tap, plus good and some wines/seltzers. They also have a small game area in the entryway. Good for large groups / events. There's a mix of inside and outside seating.

Good beer, faculty can be very loud. We had a 60min wait to get our food, luckily the beer arrived sooner.

Parking is a pain. If you are the designated driver, there is nothing to drink except some small company soda that is NOT Fitz's. No Red Bull or anything else. Never ran into this before. Most places at least have Red Bull or Diet Coke/Diet Pepsi.

Excellent range of ales and really good service and help with choosing between the vast range of craft beers.

I used to visit here every now and then, going back 5-6 years ago. I mostly came to hang out, play board games, and enjoy a Schnickelfritz (imo, one of the best local beers in STL) ; it's a perfect environment for all of those things. After all those years, I finally tried their pizza for the first time, and it was unexpectedly excellent. That mushroom ricotta wasn't shy with the ricotta, had juicy bellas, and was super enjoyable. Pepperoni definitely gets the job done, too. They check off all the boxes for a great brewery here!

Shockingly good pizza! Best pie I've had living 8 years in STL. Top 2 pizzas I've ever had. Great beer hall too and awesome selection of German style weisse and lager

Great food to accompany beer - pretzel sticks, loaded fries, pizza. All good choices. Friendly helpful staff. Any of their beers is a solid choice - something for everyone. Nice casual atmosphere. Can accommodate a lot of people without feeling crowded. A favorite hangout.

Great brewery in the Grove. Nice selection of German beers and other rotating beers. Friendly helpful staff and great aroma of brewing as well.

Both locations are great. The Grove is much larger with pizza and other food available. Bar seats and communal seating in the main area. Their midtown location is more intimate with indoor and outdoor seating. The beer? Yeah it's tasty. Not heavy on the hops, but more focused on German style beers

Good beer is good beer but what they don’t tell you is this might very much be the best pizza in St. Louis.
