Bighorn Canyon National Recreation Area reviews
9 Crow Fair attracts on the order of 1,000 teepees, and many thousands of visitors! Amazingly wonderful gathering of people, often ignored by locals, and national media.
The Bighorn Canyon National Recreation Area is also overlooked by many people who rely upon corporate advertising to guide them. The towering canyon walls frame a dramatically shifting series of ecosystems, which change dramatically when the canyon walls change alignment. The N-S canyon vegetation is so very different from places where the sunlight is restricted when the canyon walls run East-West. Go around the bend, and see “just another incredible vista! ”
While you are looking around, get up on the plateau off of Highway 14-A, and look from the top down! You might enjoy seeing some bighorn sheep, but you will see the gaps where the canyon walls snake along the river. Perspective!
We lived camping here. Visit the Devil's Canyon Overlook. If you have a bike it's a healthy ride from the campground. Also, take the boat tour! Offered by the marina. It's informative and enjoyable.
Such a surprising gem on the border of Wyoming and Montana! The scenery from and around the canyon looks like we are in Utah! Vast expansive views of the canyon and ton of wildlife around makes it a perfect place to visit on a summer day! We saw wild horses, Bighorn sheep, goats, and whatnot, right on the side of the roads. Would highly recommend visiting this recreation area.
I haven't been yet, but definitely plan to make it this summer, it looks like a stellar place to be.
The ride here is awesome in itself but seeing this with your own eyes is amazing. This is located in Devil's Canyon. When leaving here go down to next turnout and be ready for an awesome hike.
We found BigHorn Canyon to be both beautiful and desolate. It’s proximity to Yellowstone and Bighorn National Forest appear to make it less visited which makes for a more intimate experience. Surprisingly there’s plenty of wildlife, In fact we had a Montana standoff with a wild stallion which lasted for several minutes. We yielded of course and he obliged by giving us passage. Priceless!
The boat tour was worth the expense. Such a stunning canyon and amazing history. The boat guide even let my 5yo "steer" the boat for a good 30mins, which made for an incredible memory.
This park is run very well. It is also very beautiful! It is out of the way and seemingly unassuming but when you get there. WOW! This place is a must see! Update: a made a trip back and did some ice fishing. It was slow. I caught a 5 pound channel cat and 3 sauger in 2 evenings of fishing.
