I really wanted to enjoy today. Little back story. We went for New Year’s Eve and although my bacon wrapped scallops were raw, my husband bison filet and the crème brûlée had me wanting to come back. Unfortunately today was met with disappointment at every level. The buffet food was either luke warm or cold. As I ate the cold quiche I kept thinking to myself “this place has to know about keeping food at certain temps to prevent food poisoning”. Mashed potatoes, look warm. Mushrooms, cold. The lamb was good:) The service was horrible. All our server had to do was remove plates and fill water. We waited for over 20 minutes to have our first plates cleared so we could go back for the desserts, and finally just went. At that point the fruit was gone, so we weren’t able to get any. As we came back the server came by so we asked if we could have our plates cleared. We were in a little two top so not enough room for the extra plates to be slid out of the way. My husband drank his water and mine, and finally got his water refilled after our meals were done. We had one mimosa each, would have liked another but again, no server to place an order with.

For $45 a person we we’re definitely expecting warm/hot food and better service.

Yesterday, we celebrated our 34th anniversary at the Black Canyon Bistro.
IMHO, this is the best restaurant in Red Lodge.
The facility was beautiful, spacious, and the entire staff were absolutely great. Jake took great care of us.
The owner cooked my ribeye steak. It was fantastic, as were the mushrooms and asparagus.
The alcohol was wonderful as well.
I'd recommend this to anyone.
Thanks everyone.

Probably the worst experience in red lodge so far. Host was very awkward and made our son cry, the waitress was very short and stand offish and came back for our order 3 times within 10 minutes of us sitting down and 5 minutes of getting our drinks, there was definitely zero time for enjoying conversation. They were in brunch hours but told us we could only order lunch, their lunch menu had about 5 things total on it and none of them kid friendly nor do they offer a kids menu. Ordered the chicken strips and they came out COVERED in white chalky powder and the waitress said “it’s probably their batter. I don’t know what they do back there but im sure it’s just flour” and walked off. For each of us to eat about 3 fry’s before just leaving, we paid about $30 a person and got the driest, most unwelcoming experience we’ve had at a restaurant there so far. We’ll stick with our other choices next time.

Very delicious food in a pleasant inviting atmosphere. Service was very good. I personally felt that the food had a bit of New Orleans style, because of the use of butter and the tasty, not overly spicy, seasonings.

The garlic shrimp in seasoned melted butter definitely reminded me of my 20 years in New Orleans, including ample sauce to "sop" with the included toasted bread slices.

My wife and I tried several small plates, also including Steak Tips Diane and delicious Crab Cakes. All were very flavorful, as in the New Orleans cafes where I dined many years.

The two owners have very extensive restaurant backgrounds, including several years in Jakes West End in Billings as Chef and Bar Manager. As fate would have it, I remembered them from Jakes, and vice-versa.

We got there early and Black Canyon was not busy. By the time we left, about 6 pm, the Bistro was very busy, so reservations are recommended.

Very delicious, flavorful, seasoned food items in a very pleasant vibe, good service, owned by two very experienced upscale restaurateurs. We'll be back often.

We walked in on a Saturday morning for a brunch and were immediately pleased we did. The ambiance was terrific and the Bloody Mary’s were some of the best I’ve ever had. All this was somehow overshadowed by the superior food we were served and service we received. Will without a doubt be back and 10/10 recommend.

Took the family there for brunch Saturday morning. Great atmosphere, well staffed, plenty of brunch options and great bloody Mary’s! Excited to try dinner next!

Great restaurant here in Red Lodge! Everyone at our table loved their meals, service was fantastic and we had a great time! Especially loved the French dip and elk medallions. I also made a reservation for 4, but 2 additional people joined - I pleaded for forgiveness with the host and he and the manager got us taken care of, regardless. My fault - and we all totally appreciated the help and understanding - can’t thank you all enough! We’ll be back for sure:)
