Cardwell General Store and Campground reviews
18 My truck broke down towing my trailer and tractor home, it had started snowing hard and the roads were bad so I limped my truck to the Cardwell store. We called the listed number as soon as well pulled in and left a message offering to pay for the parking. We also spoke to a sherrifs deputy we agreed we were best to leave in there and not on the road.
The owner called the next morning angry and yelling we had blocked his parking and informed us that they would have it towed TO GREAT FALLS, 3 HOURS AWAY. We said we are coming immediately to move it please give us an hour we happy to pay for the spots we took up.
I contacted the sherrifs department, the dispatcher said she would try to delay it being towed so we got here in time to move the truck and trailer out on the road.
So I suggest that anyone who may stop here go on to Whitehall save money on fuel as a bonus
The store looked great! Could not believe the laundry was included in the price, this is a first. Bathrooms were super clean.
Only downside is no TV reception, no cable TV. Stopped in January and it was icy due to recent weather, and the path to the super clean restrooms was slippery.
All said, they really cared and we would stop again.
Wow what a change. We've used this campground on our trips from PA to Tacoma area over the last 7 years. The new owners have really put a lot of work into upgrading. Curt was super friendly and the site was level! Hope to see you all again on our next trip!
We had to use campground to turn around and we're attacked by the Kevin and Karen running this place. They tried to block us in, chased us down cutting us off almost crashing into us. Felt like we were escaping kidnapping. My kids were freaked out. They were following us screaming they were calling the cops on us and to get out of there. I'm that's what we were trying to do in the first place. We had no intention of staying but they had the intention of holding us there against our will for some reason. Craziest experience I ever had. They are probably still standing there in delusional anger.
*Update. These people tried to lie and file a false report stating we hit them with our truck. They didn't count on us having a dashcam showing them trying to illegally detain us and pit manuever us off the road. We will be filling charges against them for assault, false police report and attempted kidnapping.
Really nice hosts. Perfect for our 1 night stay right off the I90. Clean sites and bathrooms and very dog friendly
Great camp ground to stay at would highly recommend anyone to stay at this camp ground. Would like to thank curt and Laurie for their hospitality.
Host was VERY friendly and accommodating. Beautiful well maintained campsite just off the I90. Highly recommend.
Beautiful campground! Clean, shaded trees, horseshoe pits, corn hole, laundry. Store was filled with local products and run by delightful people.
Unfortunate that you won’t allow the public to pay to rv dump any longer. We love to camp in the area and there aren’t any dumps close. Also terrible hours. I hope you can get more help to have better hours.
On our way back from sturgis, stopped at Lewis Clark caverns just down the road, needed fuel for the bike so this nice treed and grassy campground right beside the store we inquired about a tent site the owner Curt was very accommodating and friendly we stayed the night. The whole experience was great, will definitely stop again when we travel this road. Thanks Curt for the information to head up Chouteau it was a beautiful ride and new area to encounter and nice to meet you and Laurie Doug and Fran Sharp canada
Lori and Curt own and run this beautiful CampGround. There hard-work reflects in your stay. No details are missed with Lori and Curt works relentlessly to maintain the grounds and make sure your safe and happy. The cabin is decorated perfectly and the grounds back up to a beautiful green pasture with a running spring where majestic creatures like moose and antipope love to come refresh themselves. This is a must stop place. If your visiting Montana it’s close to the caverns and Yellow Stone entrance. The store is beautiful with a great variety.you can find a keep sake handcrafted by locals or gift for your family, there is also gear for camping food and beer. I can’t say enough about these people and this place. Stop and Stay!
Yes this is a great camping ground we didn't have a reservation but the owner gave us a spot to boondock. And it was great. And what a store they have everything you need including guard ani
Couldn't have had a more pleasant experience. Our plans changed and by chance they had a spot for us last minute and "kept the lights on for us" when we came in late. The new owners have made some serious upgrades and the bath house and store are amazing. The grounds are well maintained with conimuing improvements. We will be back.
Well maintained, convenient location and great staff. Nice place to crash at the end of a long journey. Definitely try the Huckleberry shake.
Thank you for a great rest. Nice clean and well taken care of camp ground. Helped us into our space and the folks at the little store we so friendly! Clean showers and lots of fun things for families to do. Thank you!
The mosquitos and bugs are so bad there that you can not sit outside, its so bad the they have zapping bug lamps at every site.and if that wasn't bad enough, the interstate is so loud all night long that you can not get to sleep. The place was clean and the people friendly though.
We went to the general store for an ice cream treat after camping. We ended up tasting teas and candy. Tiffany was amazing and made it an awesome experience.
Easy in and out for 40’ Class A. Great space with views, super clean grounds and bathrooms/showers.
New owners that revamped the entire grounds. General store is well stocked with reasonable prices.
We stayed for 5 days. Epic off roading, 30 minutes away from Butte, 10 minutes from Whitehall, Jefferson River is close for fishing with a view - we’ll be back.
