My initial reason for visiting was to see more of the famed Gallatin River. I was not disappointed. It is easy to see why it is legendary. With over 3 million acres of one of the most ecologically diverse regions, there is much to see and do. So many great ranches, hiking trails, and least we not forget, Fly Fishing. Montana is filled with so many adventures.

Wonderful to camp in the woods, no cell service makes it a really good getaway! Don't forget the bug spray!

Only a couple camping spots. Beautiful limestone cliffs that radiate during a sunset. Secluded island of forest, hard to get to. Don't drive to when it's been raining roads are gumbo and pot holes and cross a flood plain or two.

Stayed at Red Shale Campground. Nice layout. Plenty of space between sites.
Convenient access to the road.

Beautiful National Forest to drive through and doing great some hiking. The forest is gorgeous. We hiked to Palisade Falls and it was simply beuatif. Lots of streams and places to camp along the stream. We even saw a few cabins to rent which we may do next time. The sounds of the streams/rivers was so peaceful. We could have just sat for hours watching & listening to the sound of them. Definitely plan on returning and enjoying this wonderful National Forest.

My husband and I couldn't get into the Mammoth Hot Springs Campground in Yellowstone National Park so we ended up going back into town (turn off on Second St near the gas station) and staying at the Eagle Creek campground in the Gallatin National Forest. Way better campground, beautiful views and woke up to a small herd of bison in camp the next morning. The price for the campsite was $7!

One of the most spectacular National Parks in the US. The contrast between the surrounding grasslands and the moon like rock formations is hard to fathom.
Stunning beauty.

Any national forest is a great place. These pics are just south in Wyoming in Shoshone National Forest about 10,000 feet from the border. Support our Parks and forest!

We stayed at Slim Buttes while hunting for four days. Right in the heart of Harding county. Great place to make camp and enjoy the scenery when not hunting. I'd definitely come here just for a weekend trip to just find peace. There are multiple outhouses, but no other services. It was perfect for us! Can't beat the sunrises and sunsets either!

Great views and overall a great place to go and experience nature.
We took a great drive through the forest on the way from Yellowstone to Cody and it did not disappoint. The scenery was beautiful and it had just snowed the night before. It left the snow tipped pines in perfect condition for some great photo oops. We didn't do any hikes but the drive itself was totally worth it.
Beautiful area.

This is an enchanted place. Wonderful campgrounds and beautiful views. It is far too crowded during the fall hunting season.come in the summer you will have the place to your self.

Bring 4x4 and high clearance. If it rains you will be stuck in the mud with 4x2.
