Holland Lake Lodge is a jewel that lets you experience life as it was in the era in which it was built. Other than the addition of WiFi, which lets you connect to the outside world, you can totally get away from the stresses of life here.

So sharing the shower/bathroom with the other guests in the lodge is a blast from the past-something you only see in 20s and 30s era movies. Don't let that scare you away! The food is fantastic, and the bed was as comfortable as home!

Both the presentation and the flavor of our vegetarian meals amazed me. I left the table satiated and anticipating the next meal.

There are so many outdoor activities available. I chose to hike up to the waterfall. I enjoyed the water lilies along the lake's edge and the chipmunks coming right up to my feet as I sat on the rocks beside the waterfall. I also got some kayak time in.

Just a wonderful place!

If you get the chance to go here, do it.

Amazing location, great food and drinks (could even accommodate food allergies like gluten and dairy free with grace), and lovely hosts. We were there with a group which helped make the shared bathrooms in the lodge easier. Such a good time to connect with family and the simpler things (aka no TVs, but enough internet to check email and get on a work call if you must).

We would go back in a heartbeat - but know that the lodge is rustic - you are going for the views and good vibes.

I'm looking forward to the renovations - this lodge won't survive another 50 years without them and it would be so sweet to go back with my own grandkids, God willing!

If you're a bystander and looking to save Holland Lake, perhaps the place to start is limiting hours of jet skis and ski boats (or stopping them completely). They were all coming from the docks across the lake (not the lodge) from the private use cabins on federal leases, as well as the campground.

My go-to every summer for a weekend, a day or a few days.
This time it was a day. Came over with a girlfriend visiting from out of state this past weekend. We only had time for a couple drinks and lunch, but everything was amazing. We even got matching sweatshirts
Nancy and Christian were gracious hosts as always. We enjoyed our lunch and a cocktail by the lake while we soaked up the sun. Heaven
Highly recommend if you haven’t been. Most beautiful place in Montana

We just wrapped up a family reunion at Holland lake lodge, and wanted to share what a wonderful experience we had. Hikes and paddling to the waterfall, kids had a blast playing games on the lawn and paddling around the point/lake looking for turtles and fishing on the lake. The staff was wonderful- Christian and his mom were the most gracious, welcoming people and completely made our trip. Thanks again for the amazing time, the only annoyance was the occasional loud jet ski in the evening on the lake!

Holland Lake Lodge operates on public land via a Special Use Permit. Since transferring control of the business over to POWDR, an "adventure lifestyle" corporation based out of Utah, Holland Lake Lodge's permit is no longer valid, so beware if you're making reservations for the 2023 season. POWDR's highly contentious plans for this quaint, quiet, and rustic place include tearing down many of the buildings, and constructing a 13,000 sf lodge, 26 cabins and modern "bunkies", a new 3,000 sf restaurant, a welcome center, other outbuildings including employee housing and water craft storage, parking lots, and floating docks. Yikes! Many of these buildings are slated to be right on the shoreline, so say goodbye to the peace and quiet you used to be able to enjoy while out kayaking or playing on the water. If POWDR's proposal is approved, occupancy would triple and become year round. So much for finding a little solitude and an authentic Montana experience on public land.

In 2010, former owner Christian Wohlfeil had this to say about Holland Lake: "Let's face it, there aren't many places you can walk out on a point, see two snow-capped mountain ranges, a stunning waterfall, and virtually no development. " I wish he still saw the non-monetary value in that, as he was absolutely right. It's such a shame, because if POWDR's permit application and expansion proposal are approved by the USFS, the very essence of what makes Holland Lake so special will get positively steamrolled. Please consider that when deciding where to spend your time and money when visiting Montana.

One last thing: I've read many reviews where non-paying guests were run off the property. Folks, Holland Lake Lodge sits on PUBLIC land. This is YOUR land. You have every right to be there.

Calling the cabins "rustic" is an overstatement. Lacking basic Maintenace is more accurate, especially when you consider the price. Christian seems to think he can treat people however he likes, not the most gracious host.

It is a beautiful Lake and rustic Lodge. I would like to keep visiting. The people were helpful and genuinely nice. They cared about my stay.

Out of state company POWDR is trying to privatize public forest service land for personal gain. If visiting please consider camping at the lake, its free. Do not give these people a penny, keep Montana public.
