Horn and Cantle, Big Sky MT

I recently had the opportunity to dine at Horn and Cantle, and overall, it was a mixed experience for me. The ambiance of the place was definitely one of the highlights, as it had a pleasant and inviting atmosphere. The rustic décor, warm lighting, and comfortable seating all contributed to a cozy and enjoyable environment.

The drink selection at Horn and Cantle was impressive. They offered a wide range of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, including craft cocktails and a decent variety of wines. I found the drinks to be well-crafted and satisfying, which added to the positive aspects of the dining experience.

However, when it came to the food, I must admit I was a bit disappointed. I really wanted to enjoy the dishes at Horn and Cantle, but unfortunately, they fell short of my expectations. While the presentation was appealing, the flavor and execution of the dishes were just average. The menu did offer some unique and interesting options, but the taste didn't deliver the same level of excitement. It left me craving for more depth and creativity in the flavors.

On the bright side, I must commend the wait staff at Horn and Cantle who were attentive, friendly, and accommodating throughout the dining experience. Their helpful and professional demeanor added a positive touch to the evening.

In conclusion, although the atmosphere was very nice and the drinks were enjoyable, I must admit that the food at Horn and Cantle failed to impress me. While it's possible that my experience may not be representative of the restaurant as a whole, I personally would not go back solely based on the dining experience I had. However, if you're simply looking for a place to grab drinks and enjoy the ambiance, Horn and Cantle might still be worth considering.

It pains me to leave this harsh of a review for a restaurant my wife and I have come to adore over the years. I won't go into specifics but will simply say, the level of disappointment in the food cannot measured in words.

The cost to value is no longer recognizable as it's clear a corporation has taken over and profits are more important than quality.

While the GM did speak with us and shared his frustration which was much appreciated it doesn't change the fact the meal was dreadful!

My recommendation is to avoid Horn and Cantle until they can rediscover their past.

Steak overcooked. Didn’t want to delay rest of party by asking for another medium rare. So it wasn’t great.

Excellent atmosphere and very attentive service but the food was mediocre with low quality ingredients like soybean oil is used for cooking in almost everything they serve. Food temperature issues too.

The service was excellent, as were the non-alcoholic cocktails. All two of them. Unfortunately some of the dishes were underwhelming and in general the kitchen seemed overburdened. Some examples were a bruschetta missing bread, noodles that were still doughy, and uneven portion sizes for two of the same dish. The atmosphere was generally good although the lighting was dark enough I saw multiple tables reaching for flashlights to read the menu. To be clear, the right dishes are a notch above chain restaurants with a strong emphasis on local ingredients, which is commendable. Unfortunately, I will not seek to dine here again to the extent that for dessert, we opted to eat at home.

Such an amazing dining experience. The food was also excellent. We had the bison New York strip and it didn’t taste “gamey” at all. I highly recommend this restaurant.

The atmosphere was very nice however the steak was not tender and hard to cut. We told the waiter that it was not tender and he apologized but he didn’t offer to do anything about it, the price for a Sirloin steak was extremely overpriced at $72 the menu is limited

Well, I usually wouldn't say anything bad about a place like this but, we paid a premium price for a very tough steak that we really didn't want to start with. We came for the Elk and or Bison but found out after we got there it wasn't on the menu as of the day before. If it was on the website we never saw it. Texas Road House was better.

I don’t like reviews that are negative however I’m going to post a first ever for me.
When we called for reservations the HaC person said they had no reservations left for October 31st.so we had to wait for her to check and see if we could get in on the 1st. Of November. She got back in touch and we didn’t eat very much in anticipation of the dinner of Elk and Bison. When we ordered the waiter informed us that we could not get the Elk Chop, or Bison. We ordered the New York Strip. We all found it to be very tough for that cut. Truthfully it was like a bad Sirloin as far as texture goes. The taste was great, the potatoes and asparagus was really nice. It seems to me that they could have at least apologized, but didn’t say anything after we told the waiter that we weren’t happy with the steak. They brought our checks and no mention of the steaks or if we wanted dessert. Okay, I know it’s shoulder season but we all felt like we got what was left in freezer.
Can I, or would I recommend this place? Not sure, but I would let them know what we Experienced. I’m really sorry we didn’t go elsewhere. Bye the way, after all the trouble getting a reservation there were maybe two other tables the entire time that we were there.

The entire dining room was empty and they sat us next to two other couples only two foot apart from each other. Was not cozy for the price! Our $100.00 steak was just average. Sadly I was totally unimpressed!

The good: nearly everything was perfect during our meal. Only the risotto lacked a touch of salt. The rest of the meal was worth the drive and walk.

I would love to see a bit more lighting to enjoy the lovely plating.

The place is clean, picturesque and quite inviting.

The bad: with the parking lot next to the stables.the barnyard smells take a bit away from an otherwise perfect experience.

Beautiful views, great food and cocktails. Stopped in while in the area. Hostess Erica was professional and helpful, our waitress Karen was amazing. Would definitely stop in again.

We went to Horn & Cantel on the recommendation of my brother's boss. It is a very rustic restaurant, beautifully appointed with antler chandeliers, wild animal mounts, and magnificent log beams. Our server, Jamie, was second to none. He was knowledgeable, helpful, extremely attentive and FUN! The food was superb. My husband had the 40 oz Tomahawk ribeye. He said it was exceptionally good and it was precut. My brother had the bison tenderloin and raved about it. My sister-in-law had Caesar salad, crispy brussel sprouts and smoked trout dip. She also raved about her meal. I had the wild game bolognese containing elk, bison and pork. It could have used a bit more seasoning, it was otherwise delicious. We all raved about the warm bread and salted butter served before the meal. Wow that was good! We all had dessert despite the fact that we were stuffed. My brother and I had the cowpoke cookie which was a huge trio of chocolate, bourbon caramel and vanilla ice cream served over a warm chocolate chip cookie. Yummy! My husband and sister-in-law had the cast iron cobbler which was bourbon glazed peaches, huckleberries, brown butter crumbles and vanilla ice cream. Equally yummy! Our experience at Horn & Cantel was First Class all the way. If you go, be sure to ask for a table at which Jamie will be your server. You will not be disappointed! They even arranged for a "golf cart" type vehicle to take my husband and I, who are mobility challenged, down to our car in the parking lot. It was our 30th anniversary celebration and we could not have asked for a finer night!

Everything about our experience here was terrific. We are in the area for our anniversary so looking for something special and this place didn’t disappoint! The service was phenomenal, the food was perfect and so flavorful. The atmosphere was amazing also. Cannot say enough great things about it.

This place is a must-go for anyone in the area. It’s a phenomenal dining experience. It’s definitely more bougie than what we are used to when it comes to ranches, we prefer it to be more rustic, but the food was delicious and the service was flawless. Joel served us and he was great. It was pricey for what we got but I’d still say it was worth it.

Gorgeous views, delicious, mouth-watering food. They treated us so well during our first dinner as a married couple! COME HERE!

My wife and I have been there as a couples get away many times. We also take family and friends when they come to visit. We have never been disappointed. Drinks and dessert this time after enjoying the Big Sky area with my sister and husband. Espresso martini is the best around and the cobbler was outstanding. Staff was helpful and extremely friendly.

One of the BEST dining experiences ever. It was my birthday, and Joel and the team were the cherry on top of our experience!

Will definitely be our special occasion + date night dinner spot.

Great service and a really cool location. Atmosphere is awesome. The food was good but I was not impressed with the steak for the price. I had the NY strip special for the day. The elk meatball and mac and cheese were delicious. But, I have had better steaks for much less $$. Would go again to try some other menu items.
