Kootenai National Forest reviews
14I travel through and into this forest often for work and recreation. It's a national forest, so a little rugged (as a rule national forests are more rugged than national parks but less so than wilderness areas). Great selection of hiking trails, lakes, waterfalls and more. Fun activities also include foraging for mushrooms and berries, good hunting opportunities. Been here for years and find new things all the time.
The Ross Creek Cedars Scenic Area near Libby, Montana can be reached via a narrow but paved road. There is ample parking by the grove and a wonderful short nature trail through the grove.
Nothing better than to enjoy your nearby National Forest. Kootenai does a great job at helping locals, and those from abroad find peace and quiet in nature.
Truly a magnificent and beautiful place of Earth. The cleanest air and water with watching bald eagles as an added bonus! Makes me appreciate my home, Montana.
One of the nicest areas I've ever seen it's like a secret little paradise type of place
We entered Kootenai right from Kaniksu during our road trip. It is also gorgeous and green. The drive was extremely pleasant, and it is definitely a worthy place to visit.
We love traveling the small roads because you can stop and see the sights. So boring on interstates. We stopped many places along the Kootenai River and Forest and took a lot of pictures and video. We always have fun exploring on the secondary roads.
I have never reviewed a NFS, but Kootenai is amazing and holds the largest area of undesignated wilderness in MT. (The Yaak)
The lowest and wettest forests, beautiful high country (the Cabinet Range), giant trees, beautiful rivers.
I have seen lynx, grizzlies, fishers, bull trout, and hippies.
A must see if your in the Libby/ Troy area. Easy trails beautiful views and a bridge over the river.
It is an awesome place to go get lost in. Have fun and explore it. There are a lot of animals to see.
Leigh Lake in the Cabinet Mountain wilderness - a short difficult hike to stunning alpine lake Spectacular!
The forest is always great, has nothing to do with forest service they are lazy and make a lot of terrible decisions.
I love all the wildlife, creeks, lakes, streams, rivers, mountains. That's why I live here
Beware the bears but not the deers, unless it's dusk. That's when those pesky deers try to play frogger
