This was my second time staying in Silver Gate at Silver Gate Lodging and I hope to return again next season.

The accommodations:
The rooms in the smaller cabins have two queen sized mattresses that are exceptionally comfortable/seem to be fairly new. Pillows on both beds had varied firmness levels so everyone could have one that suited their preference. The rooms have full kitchens and all the necessary dishes as well as a full bathroom, shower and all. There is no wifi or TV in the rooms, but if you had an emergency or an urgent need, the shop is within 50 yards or so from most all of the main cabins and has wifi. The staff were excellent and accommodating during both of my stays- even got to meet the owner on this last trip and he was warm and welcoming. Almost posted this review without mentioning the front porch of the cabin- you’re looking out at beautiful, craggy mountains from the comfort of a covered porch with deep set Adirondack style chairs. It was heavenly even on rainy days and especially when it’s snowing.

The location:
You enter through the North entrance of Yellowstone National Park and drive an hour or so through some of the most beautiful lands in the country, then exit through the Northeast entrance toward Silver Gate/Cooke City, Silver Gate is less than a mile from the NE Yellowstone entrance, so close that on my first trip there were bison, moose, and even a bear in town that we got to see up close from the comfort and safety of the cabin. The locals are quick to give you heads up if they’ve seen any wildlife- anything from a “we’ve heard there’s a bear around, so be careful and carry bear spray” to “if you go look near the river there’s a baby moose! ”. In any direction from Silver Gate you can find beautiful vistas and amazing wildlife, so it acts as a truly lovely home base as you explore this beautiful place.

“But there’s no wifi or cell service or TV? ”:
I don’t know your situation but I am a millennial and I look at a screen nearly 50 hours/week for work. On top of that I’ve been watching an unprecedented amount of TV with the pandemic and all and I’m on social media almost every day. Being out in the middle of a national park while still having the creature comforts of a hot shower and a warm bed gave me a place to recharge without distraction. I brought paints, books, and downloaded my favorite music to play while cooking dinner for my group- I unplugged without trying and it was awesome.

Honestly I can’t wait to go back to Silver Gate hopefully sometime soon.

(Wanted to make a note- these pictures were from my initial stay earlier this year, no snow on the ground yet as of 9/18.)

We've stayed here now three times. It is our go to when we visit northern Yellowstone. Cabins are clean and well stocked. No wifi in cabins- this is a place you go to leave the outside world behind. If you need to check an email though you can go up the the office to get a signal for this
