Rainbow Point Campground reviews
17 Access to Yellowstone was the main draw. A good area with clean water access and pit toilets that are relatively clean. Each site has a fire ring with a grill attached. The lake/reservoir nearby is gorgeous. There is also horse butte nearby that offers incredible views of the surrounding area with an old fire station at the top (no access). I recommend a sturdy vehicle to get up there, although we did it in a mazda.
The only drawback was the MANY mosquitos. Being really good insect repellent and cover every surface. They will get you through fabric, and even camp chairs. If you cover yourself well, it'll be much more enjoyable.
The local park attendant was friendly.
Great area near Yellowstone and right on the lake. Road to the campground is extremely bumpy. Mosquitoes were terrible in late July. Bathroom near us was decently clean.
Rainbow Point is a great campground. The campground hosts are very nice and informative. There are trails leading to the beach of Lake Hebgen within the campground and a boat dock. I rated it four stars because the road to get to the campground is extremely bumpy if you’re towing an RV, and there are quite a few potholes within the park. There are also many mosquitos, so bring your bug spray! There is also only electric hookups, no dump station or water at the sites.
Otherwise, it was an amazing experience.
The road to get there e is very bad and bumpy and bring lots of mosquito spray. Bathroom was clean.
Tent camped here for two nights in July. The proximity to Yellowstone was great, but the mosquitos made the site itself almost unbearable. After two nights in long pants and long sleeves sitting near a smoky campfire, I still left with 40+ bites. The campgrounds seem much better suited for RVs than car camping. There was easy access to potable water, but no way to dispose of waste water or trash from cooking, cleaning, tooth-brushing, etc. The pit toilets on site were clean, but you need to bring your own hand sanitizer for after you use them.
I really want to give rainbow point campground five stars, but I just can't do it. It is an excellent campground for Lake Access, being in a wooded area, being quiet, scenic, shaded, and so much more. However, the big flaw of rainbow point campground is the mosquitoes. They were so horrible that we left after 2 days of a 4-day paid reservation. We just couldn't take it. No one, no one was outside of their camper for the two days we were there. There. You couldn't be. The only reason I went outside was to let the dogs out. It was truly a horrible experience at a beautiful location. Quite unfortunate.
To let you realize how bad they were, I considered giving a three-star but everything else was great. Great. Assuming you were there without the mosquito season, you would love this place.
The campground is so beautiful. Good amount of trees (very important to me) and the campsites are spaced out nicely. Also looks like the hosts do good job of keeping it clean. Like many others have said, the road in is quite bumpy. Although it's not the worst we've been on. It really, really is a beautiful area. BUT.again, as many have said.the mosquitos are an absolute NIGHTMARE! I cannot stress this enough. I have been where the mosquitos are "pretty" bad but NEVER this bad! We had a campfire. We had citronella candles going AND Off. Pretty sure they actually loved that stuff. I will not return because of that. I don't know if it was just this year or if they are always bad, but. No way! It's supposed to be a fun, relaxing time and it was anything but that.
Paid to stay for 5 nights. Location is beautiful. Campground host is rude and completely ruined the visit. They were making up their own “rules” and refusing to let people park in designated parking locations by the road. Threatening to have people towed. Told us to park in the boat ramp launch parking area which was completely full and forcing people to park unsafely in the road. Absolutely ridiculous how they spoke to people.
Thank you for the review on July 16,2023 in reference to parking. Please contact the manager who will be able to furnish you with a picture of your vehicle blocking the fresh water supply for campers. Also, if you call West Yellowstone Sheriff's office they will let you know that a deputy was dispatched (as per your request) to talk with you but you left before their arrival.
Great campground with lots of shade. Our kids enjoyed swimming in the lake. The road you drive to the campground is VERY bumpy, so take it slow.
The road into the park had so many potholes and bumps that it felt like my SUV was going to fall apart. Once we finally made it there, we were eaten alive by mosquitoes. We canceled and left.
We stayed at this campsite in loop C, spot 25. Campsite is very clean, very nice campground and just a lovely place to stay on a couple of minutes from yellowstone park. Would definitely recommend this campground.
Great location if you're going into Yellowstone. The campground is well maintained and the lake nearby is beautiful!
Campground hosts are amazing! They are very helpful and accommodating. Highly recommend this campground above others in the area. Hosts herr are just all around great and really make you feel welcome in the camp
Stayed in Loop B in late July. Easy access to water spigots, but no waste water disposal or trash receptacles available. Only two pit toilets for the entire loop which were clean, but inadequate for the number of people they had to accomodate. Site itself was fine, but the mosquitos were horrible, and mosquitos don't usually bother me. Could only stand to stay out of the tent with a smokey fire going to clear out insects, and even then had to stand directly in the smoke. So if you are tent camping, pick your misery. A mob of mosquitos, stinging eyes from smoke, or stay in the tent. I would not recommend this site.
This campground is located close to Yellowstone and has a very nice lake. It does offer electric and you are able to get potable water at the entrance. Unfortunately, it is not equipped with a dump station. The roads in the campground themselves do have some large washout areas. The sites themselves are nice and level. Just take your time driving the loops.
Nice campground with shore power hookups. Sites are about 20-30 ft apart with trees and brushes separating each site. Parking was super easy thanks to the loop design.
Restrooms are clean and there are bear boxes at every site, which is awesome.
