First things first - this is NOT an official franchise location of A2B. If that's what you were looking for, you will be disappointed as we were! I am South Indian and came to visit with my South Indian family friends, so i can confidently say this wasn't the most authentic place to get proper South Indian food. The pongal was not made with the correct type of rice, and the medu vada left much to be desired. We ordered some dosas and the inside stuffing to dosa ratio was not great. Way too much potato masala which left the dosa soggy. I ordered a paneer rava dosa and the stuffing was mostly potato with hints of paneer and the thickness of the rava dosa was not what I expected. In addition to food not being up to our expectation, the service was so terrible. They brought out our chais before we even started the meal, which is so strange because you always drink chai after you're done eating. Each dish also came to the table so late that one person was fully finished eating and several of us were still waiting for food. Overall, it felt like if we needed a server, we were bothering them and getting in their way. Maybe I would order takeout from here if I didn't have time to go to New Jersey to have a meal from the real A2B location, but there is no way I would sit down and eat here again. The food is not terrible, but it's not the most authentic, and the service quality is unacceptable. And they add 15% tip automatically, probably because if we tipped based on service then we wouldn't even give 15%. Why go here when Saravana bhavan is not too far from here?

Horrible service. Would give it a 0 star if possible. I sat with a friend who had already eaten and immediately the waiter came over saying that they don't let people share food. We said that's fine as I was the only one eating anyway.
While ordering the manager came over as well and after they took my order, they said again "no sharing allowed" then proceeded to force us into buying another appetizer or main course. After this, they came over for the THIRD TIME and said again no sharing. Once the food came out the manager sat in the corner and literally stared at us while I had my food. One of the worst culinary experiences in NYC in my opinion. On top of which, dosa was sub par at best. 0/100 would never recommend

For any of you who did not know: This place is not the original Adyar Anandha Bhavan. It's fake and apparently has a lawsuit it's facing for using the name. Don't recommend this place at all.

Also, the service was terrible. Anyone who wants to understand how terrible, try to go over the owners responses to negative reviews. LOL. The responses seem like it's coming from a teenager who is going through their rebel phase.

One of the best South Indian restaurants in the United States. The Sambar is great and the Badam Halwa is always available and plentiful. Highly recommend this place for anyone looking to experience authentic South Indian cuisine.

Awful service, the worst I’ve ever been treated by a waiter and owner of a restaurant. For better food and way better service go to India Palace on 62nd. At least there the staff doesn’t speak rudely to you, talk behind your back, and then sit a few feet away and watch you eat your meal …. All because you didn’t want to order more food. My friend ordered a full meal and because I already ate, I ordered a drink so I could at least contribute something to the paycheck since I was taking up table space. Mind you though, the restaurant was empty besides one table (probably because nobody wants to be there with the awful service), so it’s not like I was taking up space during peak rush dinner hours while there are others waiting for a table. Completely ruined my experience — and check out the replies the owner leaves on bad reviews. His immature attitude is clear! Strongly advise against spending money here (and very excited to read the reply the owner will inevitably send here! Can’t be worse than today’s treatment.)

Excellent food, will come again to try more. We took the Bombay Thali and South Indian Thali. Small place, simple ethnic vibe.

I tried the masala Dosa thali. I was not impressed by it. The dosa was not good.the idllly was terrible. You can eat better stuff in other south Indian restaurant.

Will never order from this restaurant again. I specifically left instructions to not use a specific oil due to allergies. I wrote these instructions via Uber Eats after confirming over the phone that they could do this. After making my order they called me to say they messed up and had to remake my order but were going to charge me because I didn't tell them ahead of time. I cancelled the order and I'm working with Uber to get a full refund. Until their customer service improves and they learn to follow WRITTEN instructions I will not be ordering from here ever again. If I could give zero stars I would have.

The food was genuinely amazing at this place and deserved a 10/10. However, the experience and service we received was disgusting. As Indian people, we received the worst and most rude service in the entire place. The Non-Indian customers were treated much better. It took 20 minutes for us to even get a menu. After we ate, they also refused to give us take home boxes and were verbally rude. I would highly recommend their competitor Saravana Bhavan instead - same food and much better service!

I ordered a dosa through Seamless and they got my order wrong. When I told Seamless it was prepared incorrectly, they refunded the order after which I received a call from the restaurant owner yelling at me for asking for a refund and asking me to "pay him. " He then started telling me I don't know how a "dosa is cooked" (I'm from India btw). He kept screaming at me, threatened me, all the while I kept calm and kept telling him my order was wrong, after which he abruptly hung up on me. The food at the restaurant is generally good but I'm not sure how can they let the manger talk to customers that way/call them and threaten them? This is literally harassment.

I echo most of the reviews about poor service. I have been noticing the same older gentleman/ wait staff for years now, he is extremely rude. Even though there were 8 empty tables he asked us to leave immediately after the bill was paid saying they have reservation. It was total lie, there were no customer waiting outside. And a note to the owner instead of defending every negative review about the service you should pay attention to improving the service. I can understand if there is one complain, here you see multiple complaints on the same line. I myself have experienced it many times. I also noticed another customer requested different table then he was offering he straight away declined saying they have reservation which was not true, since there was no reservation and nobody came. Another point the item on the menu said Bhaji (potato, bell pepper fritters) but he asked as which one do we want and categorically pointed out the item no. And all got was potato. If it is either or put it as a separate item don’t describe as both.

Bad service, 15% Tip on the total bill amount is part of the Bill that they charge you straight up. When questioned, the guy gives lame answers. Very rude behavior that is evident in the responses they have made to all the negative reviews. Don’t recommend dining here.

Damn. The food was so so tasty. South Indian thali was like heaven. Kudos to the chef…. Loved it …. Ghee roast dosa was like heaven as well zzz

I love the food at this place, one of the best Indian I’ve had and quality is always consistent. Serving is always nice. Plus, affordable great food specially when compared to other places that have similar dishes, I usually pay half the price here and food is much better.
