I recently went to Altman luggage looking for a few bags for my upcoming trip. Upon entering i was greeted by one of the employees, Elan. Let me tell you i have never met someone who is more knowledgable when it comes to bags/traveling items than him. Quality, production, etc.he knew it all. After consulting he helped me find exactly what i was looking for and i am now a proud owner of 3 tumi luggage bags thanks to him. I will only be buying bags and luggage from Altman for the rest of my life. Family run business who understand what customer service means. Just a wonderful experience and cannot wait to return

Wonderful local long-standing luggage store with a huge variety of quality products. I went there looking for a Briggs and Riley and was happy to find they had the whole collection in stock. They also have a wide selection of other known brands. Staff is friendly, knowledgeable, but not at all pushy. Shout out to Emmett, who was super helpful, patient, and threw in an extra packing cube for me. Will return for my next travel item.

This is it - THE best luggage store in New York, in the historic luggage district. The selection is huge. They have the top brands like Travelpro, Manhattan Portage, Aleon, Briggs & Riley, Thule, Delsey, Samsonite, Victorinox and Eagle Creek. If you are eying a bag by those brands, they can absolutely get it for you. And I feel like I tested them. I walked in on a Sunday afternoon, an hour before closing, and I asked for a specific, recently-released bag from Manhattan Portage. I assumed it wouldn't be in-stock. What happened next was stunning. Not only did they have it in their stock room, the salesman was incredibly friendly. He knows the products inside and out. And he gave me a 10% discount just for being a nice, late customer. I used to work at Crate & Barrel, and that company strives to establish relationships with customers. Starbucks used to do that as well (maybe in small cities it still does, but not New York). What I experienced at Altman was an old school, respectful, Manhattan small business transaction. Guess where I'm going to buy my next large roller for international flights? Not Amazon. It's Altman Luggage. Same with all my future Manhattan Portage bags. This place is THE BEST.

Just wanted to give a shout out to Altman luggage, I spoke with Dan and he placed an order at almost 4: 00 p.m. Eastern Time, and both of my bags were shipped out within an hour. Great place to do business with friendly efficient competitive prices.

One of the first things I did when I moved to NYC in 2000 was buy a Manhattan Portage bag at the original store on 9th Street. Over the past 23 years, I’ve traveled the world with this bag. It’s been lost several times, but somehow always came back to me. It has carried my hopes and dreams, and served me well during my days here. As I get ready to leave this place, I felt a fitting gesture would be to buy a new one - a fresh start for a new set of hopes and dreams. The store on 9th is long gone and Altman Luggage is now the NYC dealer. I showed them my beat-to-death roadworn bag and they were amazed! Jay gave me a great discount, and they even took some pics for me. Thanks Altman Luggage Co! See you again in 23 years.

I needed a large suitcase on short notice for an upcoming trip. I called to confirm that they had the bag I was looking for in stock and was able to go check it out, compare colors, check out the zippers and wheels, and pick it up the same day. The sales staff could not have been nicer or more helpful, and the price was better than any other retailer (60% less - really - than what Macy’s was charging for the same bag, less than Amazon, and even a bit less than the manufacturer’s website). Highly recommend.

I ordered a handbag on April 24. They immediately confirmed by email and charged my credit card. I heard nothing else and finally called them on May 13,3 weeks later. I was told that they didn't have the item and wouldn't have it in the future. So I told them to credit my account. But what horrible business practice - were they just going to keep my money forever until I called? Why would you charge someone when you don't have the item? And not tell the customer that you don't have it?

YOU COULD NOT ASK for a better sales person. He was friendly, helpful and truly new his products.
