Apotheke Chinatown reviews
18Wow I came unexpectedly for my birthday and what a surprise it was! The burlesque dance, live jazz, the “chemists” making our absolutely ridiculously good drinks! Good crowd, lots of friendly folks, ambience is perfect
Drinks were good and the atmosphere great but the music was too loud and there wasn't enough seating.
I had a fabulous time here years ago.service, cocktails, ambiance were all top notch. I do not get to New York very often, it is a treat when I do. Was out & about all day long, had a bag of Ukranian food I spent 32$ on to enjoy at the airbnb later. Stickler door man would not allow me to enter with said bag, regardless of my promises to not open this bag.it was just with me because I'm a dumb tourist. I paid good money to Uber into Chinatown specifically to visit Apotheke, but could not justify trashing the food to enter, nor taking a costly hour long sojourn to the bnb & returning to Apotheke. Perhaps this "no well packaged take out food in a tied up plastic bag on your person" rule should be noted on the website. Strange to me how this rule is so important when they do not even serve food. I work at a distillery and we welcome outside food, as we do not have a kitchen.we find letting people eat on premise is a responsible way to allow folks to imbibe (multiple) cocktails. Certainly they do not need my business, but I really would have loved the opportunity to give it to them.
The signature cocktails served at these establishments are often made with fresh ingredients and unique flavor combinations that cannot be found elsewhere. Whether you're looking for something sweet or savory, there's sure to be something for everyone's taste buds! Additionally bartenders are usually well-versed in mixology so they will know exactly how to make any drink you might requested.
It has been incredible to discover this place! The staff very friendly and attentive. They even invited us to a glass of champagne for our recent wedding! And then, live music. It is worth paying for it and you leave a good tip, totally delighted. Recommended!
The place is amazing and the guys that work there are very Gentle.
I'm Italian and found the place with the internet, very nice place with few tables unfortunately, the bartenders are very kind and willingly explain all the characteristics of the drink to you. Advised
Drinks were imaginative, creative, and diverse. I would believe most folks could find a drink they enjoyed here.
Use of ingredients such as lava sea salt, small carrots, and fresh fruit were highlights of drinks that were clearly tested and well-sampled, showing care from the bartenders, even during a busy evening.
Clientele was mostly respectful, if a bit rowdy and younger the evening we attended. Service from bartenders and servers was phenomenal, being quick/friendly/engaged for any needs. Would return, and on a less busy evening, I’d easily spend a few hours here, sampling the whole menu.
Loved this place! Atmosphere, drinks, staff everything was awesome! Cocktails are creative and very well made.
I loved the concept of the place and it's also not too loud or crowded. Perfect spot for a date too.
In a rather shabby part of NYC Chinatown, a door with a simple pharmacy sign hides Apotheke. It's a dark venue with low, small tables scattered throughout the relatively small space. The bar is standing room only. Already at 9pm the music is quite loud, and they sometimes have live bands, so it's not ideal if you want to socialize. The staff, of course, wear pharmacy coats and are both friendly and professional. The menu is cleverly divided into "pain killers", "stimulants", "aphrodisiacs" and the like. Don't miss turning over the menu where there's a range of excellent absinthe cocktails. We tried a Jekyll & Hyde that lived up to its name. On the one hand, gentle with lemon and mint, on the other hand fiery with Rye whiskey, absinthe and ginger. Next was a Dead Poet with bourbon, rye, allspice, cloves, walnuts and agave. Served spectacularly in a smoking glass. Delicious! World class!
In a slightly seedy part of Chinatown there is a door with a simple pharmacy sign above, where Apotheke is hiding. It is a dark room with low small tables scattered in the relatively small room. There is standing room only at the bar. Already at 9pm the music is relatively loud, and they sometimes have live bands, so it's not ideal if you want to talk. The staff naturally wear pharmacy coats and are both pleasant and professional. The menu is ingeniously divided into "pain relievers", "stimulators", "relievers" and the like. Went for the brass band on Tuesday, band was fantastic, atmosphere was great, drinks were Proper gem of a place.
Very nice speakeasy with friendly staff. Had delicious drinks. Will go back on my next trip to NY.
Best. Place. Ever! Literally, what a gem! Amazing drinks, great vibe, cool music. And Ellen is THE BEST! Next time I am in town I will absolutely come back and I recommend anyone eyeing this review to check it out!
Can we call the place a speakeasy? Probably yes since it took me some tome to locate the place. The folk guarding the entrance was cool and let me in. Great place, cosy & warm atmosphere where to have some very good drinks. Finally I got an excellent Margarita and the Flor de Luna is something really to taste. Bar tenders were nice, quick and efficient. Try this place. It is great!
Lovely bartenders who are knowledgeable. It was a wonderful experience for unique cocktails. Try the moon age daydream.
One of our favorite bars to visit in Chinatown. We always plan a trip here when we have family visiting from out of state. Drinks are always on point and the atmosphere is almost as better as the drinks! Tucked away in a alley, but worth the find
We found this bar online, in an attempt to find a cool speak easy that crafted really good cocktails. I quite literally never thought I would find a place like Apotheke. We spent an entire evening here, ordered almost every cocktail on their menu, purchased the book and still talk about how amazing this place was go this day. Please give it a try.
Apotheke is a laid back and chill bar to hang out in. We went on a Wednesday night and it was pretty empty. There were plenty of bartenders available to makw your drinks and we were served very quickly. The drinks were alright, but nothing special. The Tropic Thunder tastes like a simple Daiquiri and two drinks totaled to $50 after tax and tip. My big gripe is the bartender adding garnishes and toppings to my drink right after taking my credit card without washing his hands.
Such an amazing place. Loved the apothecary/pharmacy theme throughout. Really nice cocktails. Our server was super nice. Even gave us some recommendations for late night eats to get some food when we left.
