Argosy Book Store reviews
15A mini “library” with classy interior and massive collection of used books, mostly collectibles. You could also take the ancient elevator upstairs to visit the rare book room, all 1st editions.
Extremely unprofessional older ladies in the store. Spoke to them on the phone about selling a signed book, and they told me to come in, so they could to see it in person. However, when I went into the store 30 mins.later they couldn’t at all be bothered to help me (a young black woman and the only one in the store) and pretended as if they’ve never spoken to me over the phone.
Thankfully, the guy behind the counter at least tried to be helpful by recommending a place to get my autograph appraised.
I’m sure if they reply to my review, they’ll apologize or whatever, since other people will see it, but first impressions mean everything and y’all showed your true colors.
Great bookstore with prints and maps available to purchase. The staff is friendly and will look up books in stock. The basement is full of treasures. Must-see if you're visiting.
This is one of the best antiquarian bookstores that I've come across. Not only do they house a gargantuan collection of old books, but they also have a sizeable number of rare and old prints so you would most definitely come across a serendipitous find or two. I certainly plan on visiting again next time I'm in the city.
A piece of New York Literature History in the flesh. Go check it out they have rate books and cool art prints. The basement has a sale. Time flies here
Such a cool little bookstore, definitely explore the entire store and take the fun elevator ride to the 2nd floor. Lots of old prints for purchase.
Incredible store! With such a large selection of books and art, I could easily be in this shop for hours. This is truly an amazing shop that I’d highly recommend. Thanks!
Very helpful staff.they even "touched up" and shipped an old book for us so that we didn't have to fly home with it in our luggage.
Extremely unpolite customer service and no replies on emails. I planned on buying an expansive book… well, I guess you lost me as a customer now. I won’t recommend to anyone that store in future.
Edit: the reply of the book store is just delusional. No replies after all. Honestly, plenty of better book stores out there that value their customers instead of making empty promises and writing standardized comments. I‘m never dealing with you again.
The woman with the white short hair is miserable and one of the most unpleasant and unprofessional people I’ve ever met in the book business. Yikes beware! Very rude.
The books were beautiful. The place seemed majestic and gave me a presentation of a place that values the buildings history. They have varieties of books. I saw a lot of books that are “old” not in a bad way.
I really loved this place and wish I'd saved more time to spend here. So many gems, old books, maps, so many floors I didn't get to all of them. But for sure next time. A complete gem of a store.
Really nice! Affordable cooks outside, and really cozy hidden book shelves in the basement in the back, people inside are kind and it is a quiet quaint oasis in midtown!
A lot of old books and variety of books such as medicine, cooking, non-fiction and fiction books. Some stuff are quite expensive but it’s understandable since they sell old books.
If you are into books and rare copies as well as maps, you must visit this place. It is a huge place with amazing staff. They always have a used books stall outside. I also found some vinyl this time. The place has a charm and lovely vibe. It closes off soon, by 6 in the evening.
