Aroy Dee Thai Kitchen reviews
15Chicken in basil sauce was pretty good. PAD THAI WAS AWFUL. I am aware that Thai restaurants don't use ketchup or peanut butter to make pad thai, but the dish tasted like ketchup with some peanut butter mixed with noodles. And the dish was oddly sweet. Too much sugar. Sauce for the 5 piece $9 dumplings was spilled all over the container and unusable. Disappointing.
Very reasonable prices and great food. Papaya salad good portions and tasty. Rise and chicken very well prepared. Just find the right time as it is very busy!
Fun little Thai restaurant. The decor makes you feel like you are back in Thailand. The lychee drink was great. 4 lychee balls in there as well. The pad Thai with chicken was good. On the sweet side. A small and intimate restaurant. The lighting is strange here. The place goes from very dark to very bright every 4 feet.
We stayed 4 days in NYC and ate 2 times. It was delicious. The chicken fried rice is delicious and tasted just like my Thai friend's dish. I'll definitely recommend this place
We (a group of 4) came here for a Saturday late-afternoon lunch and were very satisfied.
They have specific vegetarian options that I was happy with, there was not much variety in them, but it was sufficient. Even non-meat based main-course is usually non-vegetarian, with fish-sauce being very common in Thai cuisine.
Starters:
1. Summer roll = fresh, uncooked, perhaps a little too raw for my liking. The accompanying brown sauce was pungent and nice.
2. Taro spring roll = Deep fried spring rolls, not so great. But, the accompanying orange coloured thick sauce was lip-smacking!
3. Vegetable dumplings = Simple, well steamed, well-stuffed. This was the only starter that was very satisfying. Served with soy-sauce.
Main Course:
4. The Red curry (with rice) = Yummy! My most-favourite item among all - rich in coconut milk, mild in chilli-spice, flavourful with herbs.
5. Pineapple fried rice = Very soft and delicious. Can be easily passed off as a Kashmiri pulao in an Indian restaurant.
Rich with cashews, broccoli, dry grapes, and juicy pineapples. I loved it!
6. Drunken noodle = Flat-square pieces of noodles (?). My friend ordered it 'extra-spicy' and it was unbearable for me. Too many chilli-flakes.
Drinks and Desserts:
7. Thai tea lychee = A great thirst-quencher, made me want to drink more and more! The flavour was subtle and sweet.
8. Thai Ice coffee = It was neither thick nor watery, it was in a good consistency. There was a mild sourness (citrus or alcohol?) and somehow feels like Irish coffee. I took a sip, but the whole cup would've been an overdose!
9. Mango sticky rice = A wonderful dessert with cut mango slices on one side, and rice + thick sweet coconut milk on the other.
The fruit was fresh and good. The rice part gave an Indian 'paal saatham' (milk rice) feeling. A good, filling, and healthy dessert.
While some dishes were not-so-great, items 4,5, and 9, were so good that I can't give anything lesser than an all-stars rating.
Best for takeout! Finding seating for dine-in can be awake, there's plenty of places to eat outside nearby and the food is amazing.
Ordered the drunken noodles w tofu for dinner. Noodles were so over cooked they were basically a liquid. I don’t know if they were just sitting around all day in water or something but it was the wettest most overcooked noodles I’ve ever been served. Was like eating slime. Thought that’s maybe what the “drunken” part meant until I looked it up. Not the case. Would fall apart just by touching them. Carrots were the opposite and slightly undercooked. Threw up everything about 30 mins after eating and stomach was still upset into the next day. So basically wasted about $35 (I paid for two meals one for me and one for someone else who didn’t care much for their meal either) Tofu was cooked ok though hence the extra star. Portions could have been bigger as well. Service was OK not great. Sufficient I would say. Will not be returning. Really wanted to like this place too.
Food took more than an hour to get ready for pickup. No flavor whatsoever in my drunken noodles. Just slightly greasy and slightly spicy. Hardly any meat in the dish. Feels like this place tried to cut every cost they could.
Great atmosphere, good food, great prices. Unfortunately waitress mistook our order. The kitchen didn't prepare meal as shown on menu, missing garnish and beading. BBQ pork served in basket and not on plate. Appetizer served with sweat-sour not plume sauce.
The thai shrimp fried rice was just okay, it wasn’t anything over the top. I really liked the ambience of the restaurant itself. Low lights, cost and very great for conversation. The person taking our orders was also quite pleasant. The chicken I got was also just okay.
RE: Visited this place again and wow, the regular Thai fried rice I and my friend ordered tasted so good. Very flavorful and filling with the sauce. We requested for it to be extra spicy. I got mine with crispy pork and she had hers with shrimp.
Kate was so kind with her service as well.
Veg dumplings, Penang curry were very good,
Basil fried rice was also good, don't like the spring roll.
Overall experience was good.
Lunch takeout is a fair price, portions won't completely fill up a hungry stomach! Take out is quick and easy and dine in was packed.
This is a charming little spot in the heart of downtown. The pad Thai and crispy spring rolls were really good, and the service was terrific. I wouldn’t expect a mind blowing experience, but this is really good, reliable, Thai food made in a mom and pop shop.
I ordered the Thai fried rice and calamari for lunch. The food was delicious, fresh and tasty. The restaurant is very small and not a good place for a large gathering.
The duck curry was really tasty. The duck was beautifully cooked, crispy outside amd juicy inside. There was rambutan in the curry which I didn't like much. But the pineapple was nice. The curry broth was so rich and delicious. Highly recommend you trying this. The portion was large, more than enough for one person. I didn't order anything else.
