Ashford & Simpson's Sugar Bar reviews
16I've been to the Sugar Bar many times, but last night the TALENT that performed was amazing!
While visiting NYC for my sister's birthday, it was recommended that we eat at Ashford &Sumpson's Sugar Bar. I will keep it simple.the food was OUTSTANDING.
Fabulous place! Wonderful, friendly staff! Delicious food and drinks! Will definitely go back! Not far from The Beacon so great for pre-show dinner, which is what I did!
As good as it gets. Authentic atmosphere and open mic nights are legendary. First time here was 20 years back - sugar bar is still top of the line when you want to dive into American soul music. House band is great and when the best singers hits the podium it doesn’t get any better.
The food at Ashford and Simpson’s sugar bar was excellent. Had the catfish strips and stuffed jumbo shrimp with crab for appetizer. Fried chicken, mac & cheese, collard greens. Service was great will return again.
Not much I can say the place speaks for its self. The food and drinks are amazing and the hostess Elangely is beautiful. The combination of good food music and drinks and a hit of that beauty in the front sold me. The mac n cheese is so amazing the wings and pork chop are just incredible the taste just makes you want more. Best soul food spot in the city.
I celebrated my birthday there thos past weekend. I have been searching for a good fried pork chop for a very long time and they delivered!
The food was delicious! I enjoyed the entertainment. This is a nice place, Everyone was friendly.
Edited review to reply to GM: Thank you for your apology. I really wanted me and my family to hang out and have a great time.
Perhaps, I was being a little to harsh with the 4 star review. The food is better than ok. It was unfortunate, we couldn't really enjoy the experience because of food delays.
Original review:
The family and I went to this restaurant to celebrate my nephew's birthday. The hostess was nice enough to allow us to dine in with no reservation. The female bartender was very nice and made great tasting drinks. However, the waiter had an attitude towards me and the food took forever to come to our table. At one point, I was on my app looking up near by restaurants to eat at after we had ordered the appetizers. When they finally brought the food out it was ok. Fortunately, for that waiter my sister tipped him well because if I were to had inserted myself he would have received nothing at all. The busboy was more attentive to our table than our waiter and was compensated for his efforts. I would rather pay more for a 4 star restaurant with polite waitstaff than to encounter a passive aggressive waiter. Needless to say, we won't be returning to the restaurant.
Note to restaurant: Pay attention your customers' concerns by sending a manager to check in with them at the table. Recruit more cooks for the kitchen and treat your customers with respect; you never know who you could be serving.
My first time The food was so good We ate everything on our plate I give 10 stars. Had the chicken- mac&cheese-greens-yams- rice&beans.will be going back trying everything on the menu. The staff was great.
Watched the Knicks playoff game and they won! Had excellent food, drinks and my waitress was great!
We selected Ashford and Simpson for a business meeting a group dinner. Everyone had an amazing time. Thank you, Ashford & Simpson for being so accomodating.
Very bad service I went to pick up an order the lady just handavan looking at their cell phones
Haven't been here in decades! I was in town to celebrate my Sister's birthday and she wanted to come here. The talented Mike Phillips was the entertainment and he was great! He played Happy Birthday for my Sister. The food, atmosphere was great but the service good but slow. Everything else made up for the service. Valerie Simpson was also in the house. Will definitely return!
Appetizers (Catfish Strips, Crab Meat Stuffed Jumbo Shrimp, Fried Calamari and Jerk Chicken Wings) were good. The Crab Meat Stuffed Jumbo Shrimp was missing the Saffron butter sauce. Meal (New Zealand Lamb Chops with Collard Greens and Rice and Beans and Seafood Linguine) was excellent. Will definitely dine there again soon.
The food is great Please make sure you’re connected with Uber eats etc, It would alleviate confusion - Thank-you.
God Bless
