Avis Car Rental, New York NY

We rented a car for a week at the 31st office in Manhattan and returned it in Washington. When picking up the vehicle, the staff was very friendly, they even took care to find someone who spoke Spanish to help us with any questions we had about its operation.
They gave us an impeccably clean vehicle that ran great,
all perfect.

Warning: this place is understaffed. Reserve your car for about 1 hour ahead of when you actually need it so you can drive away on time. If you’re returning at 7am, keep in mind it will probably actually open at 7: 05am.

Worst car rental in the city. If you want to wait an extra hour this is the place. Especially the weekend. Nightmare.

Car was good and price was fair, especially considering the different pick-up from where I gave the car back.

My reservation was for 3 pm. I arrived at 3: 01 and they were already closed like they were never were open. No one called or emailed about their hours when or after my reservation. The front desk person did open the door and very rudely declined my request to give me my rental car. It is so inhumane to see people don’t care about others even for 1 min.
This is my first and last (and of course a very sad) experience with Avis

We were in a rush and here before 7AM. The rental agent was late and caused us to get a late start.

Do not rent a car from this location. We had a very bad experience. We rented out a car from here and without even checking they gave us a car with spare tire. When we stopped for gas is when we realized that we drove on a spare tire for this long. And we had to drive more than 100 miles just to have our car changed because apparently even the road assistance was not helpful. Frankly speaking they were of no use.

Renting a car from here is like putting yourself and your family at risk. We had our experience with that please be mindful.

Rude/uninvolved staff. Car reserved online, arrived when reserved, car is not available (someone went for gas) for more than 30 minutes, waiting outside.

The girl in the office was very nice. It’s a pity that I didn’t warn that while we were standing in line and later, when the deposit could not be written off on the card from which almost 1000 dollars of prepayment had already been debited, our deadline for starting to rent a car had expired. They didn’t give us a car, and they won’t give us money. It's very, very cute!

Do not rent from Avis. I reserved a vehicle. Showed up to the location and they had no cars. Lady was rude. She had no solution.

I prepaid for my vehicle and yet the final charges did not reflect the prepay discount and were nearly a hundred dollars higher than the base quote for renting the vehicle for one day. I returned it on time and with more gas than it was given to me. My receipt describes 260 for the rental fee and then another 160 for "net charges" in ADDITION to other miscellaneous charges towards the total which makes no sense.

This is a bait and switch, plain and simple and extremely disingenuous business practice. I'll stick with one of the half dozen other car rental companies before using Avis again.

Good car rental company with friendly customer service. Quality and condition of cars provided are good.

Do not rent from this location. I was given a car with the spare tire on with out checking the condition of the car. After stopping at a gas stop is when I realized that I am driving the car on a spare tire. I had to drive 100 miles more to get the car replaced and I had to hunt down an available car at 2 Avis locations.

I would never suggest this location as this careless behavior will put you and the riders in the car in a risky situation on the road. Be advised and aware.

Manhattan 31st Street location near Penn Station was super efficient and helpful. Would rent through them again.

I took a car with a very strong smell of cigarettes in NY.but the Avis staff was very solicitous throughout the process.
