My wife and I went to Bar Bouloud for the first-time during New York restaurant week. We had a lovely dinner. Pâté for starters, she had the coq au vin and I had the trout. For dessert I had mango profiteroles and she had crème Basque. Overall we had a fantastic time, and the food was delicious. The fish was something else, came with crispy mushrooms and it was fresh, tender, and perfectly prepared, really respecting and enhancing the trout itself 10/10. My wife loved the chicken also, very tasty - to note, the portions were more generous that we expected from a French restaurant, ended up being quite a meal. The desserts were also great, the pastry in the profiteroles was crispy and light, the mango cream cut the sweetness and made it a wonderful thing to finish the dinner with. Beautiful! The atmosphere at the place was relaxed and relatively quiet, which I prefer.
We think what made the whole thing a wonderful evening was the staff and the service they provided. Sometimes you go to a nice restaurant during restaurant week and you are treated differently, like they are quietly making the point that you do not truly belong there. It has happened to us in other places when we do NYC restaurant week. This was not the case, the staff were amazingly warm, polite, and helpful. They treated us lovingly and were on top of every detail. We were celebrating an occasion, and they came with a nice surprise from the kitchen. They were also genuinely friendly and helpful. They did such a wonderful job that we both commented that we would definitely come again during regular season. Very much recommended.

To even begin to describe the level of culinary sophistication and craftsmanship that goes on in this kitchen is no easy task. Chef Daniel Boulud keeps a watchful eye over his culinary empire, and Bar Boulud is no exception. The food is just as delicious as it was 16 years ago when he opened his first location in Manhattan. I’ve been coming here ever since and I am impressed every time. There are a handful of restaurants in NYC that truly capture the creativity and quality of a French fine dining experience, and this is one of them. Everything is reasonably priced and delicious. Whether you have a Boudin Blanc sausage or the Black Sea bass, you will not be disappointed. The fish I paired with a glass of Riesling and a pate to start. And the scoop of lemon ice cream served between courses was sublime.

Loved the burger.def one of the best burgers in the city.the service did not match the level of the food however.the grapefruit sorbet dessert with turkish delight was amazing! It is also right across from lincoln center, so it is a good option for a quick dinner before a show.

Small portion sizes. Eggs benedict sauce, salmon and English muffin mediocre. Salad dressing was very flavourful. Mimosa orange juice was bland. Service was excellent!

For all the positive hype, we will never return. Although the wine was fine, the food left so much to be desired, except for the radicchio salad. The steak tartare was tasteless, the escargot was overly salty, The short ribs were in an old world sauce not for today’s palette. The staff was lovely, but they can’t make the food taste better. The ice cream was not smooth and creamy, but grainy. Go somewhere else.

Our food was good, and served in the order we requested. Re atmosphere, don't know since we were seated outdoors in a dining shed.

When we got our bill, we didn't notice that we were charged $18 for two bottles of water. W we had asked for tap water, and the water was poured from something that looked like a carafe. We didn't notice the charge till we arrived home. Too late.

At first you feel like you are walking into a wine barrel, but once inside the flowers and light airy colors are welcoming. We enjoyed every single dish ordered which included exquisite oysters, flavorful steak tartare, superb soups with French Onion and Vegan pumpkin, a scrumptious lamb pasta, and yankee burger with side of brussels. Wine and drinks were made well also. Service was good. Will definitely return when going to a show at Lincoln Center.

Very disappointing, oysters were just OK, beef tartare reasonable but nothing special, same with escargot and lamb ragu, salad niçoise & chocolate dessert were actually bad, There are so many better French restrauants in NYC, do not waste time & money here. Friendly service, Atmosphere just OK. If you find this helpful please follow me.

I guess its a management problem

Est. 2007

Layout/atmosphere
*French bistro; one long room with vaulted ceiling; bar towards the middle on left hand side; mostly booths; picture frames with “stains” from different wines of various vintages & years; wine racks downstairs near restrooms; two enclosed outdoor structures on sidewalk with heat lamps

Service
*Attentive

Food/drink
*Kale & Citrus Salad (baby mustard greens, blood orange, onion, blue cheese & pine nuts) - very good; enjoyed the different flavors of each individual ingredient
*Frenchie Burger (angus beef, pork belly, tomato compote, raclette & Dijon on brioche bun with gherkin garnish & served with pomme frites with ketchup) - Good; patty cooked right; pork brought different element to the dish; got better with each bite; frites also Good; crispy, salted
*Complimentary bread & butter - solid
*Last Ride (gin cocktail with maraschino & lime) - solid; strong aftertaste

The pre-fix thanksgiving dinner I ordered was a disappointment. The turkey was processed and warmed over.

Food was amazing. We got only patio seating. It was cold and drafty. Next time need to find a place inside. Food and wine were excellent

Avoid this place at all costs. Very unfriendly host and manager. Both the hostess and the manager lied to our party. Not worth a visit. Shameful.

Zero dignity just like this place.

The food was good in terms of flavor but one of our dishes came out not hot do maybe the timing was bad. Our waiter inattentive to us but seemingly not the tables around us (everyone seemed to get bread and more water but not us). Just seemed like even receiving menus was a long waiting process.

Ate at the bar. Premade cocktails? Odd at such an upscale place. Also food was good not great and also seemed to be premade. Came out in 2 minutes. Disappointed.

The branzino for 2 is the best I have ever had. It is moist and juicy with a good crust. No bones or anything. The starters are amazing too. I had the beef tartare and oysters, and the oysters are so fresh! A must try restaurant.

We recently dined at Bar Boulud, a solid French restaurant near Lincoln Center and had a delightful experience. The waiter was attentive, accommodating and mindful of our showtime and ensured our food arrived promptly. The food was consistently outstanding. Overall, it was a satisfying and memorable dining experience. Highly recommended.

Food is decent but customer service is not the best. Not impressed at all. For me, dinning in a restaurants involves not only the food and the ambiance but also the greeting and courtesy of servers/bartenders. In general the food has been good during my visits but the spirit hospitality is lacking in servers staff.
