Spent some time in the ER before having emergency surgery to have my gallbladder removed. All of the staff I encountered (nurses, surgeons, ultrasound, anesthesia, dietary, and housekeeping) were very friendly and compassionate. My nurses in the ER, OR, and on the surgical floor went above and beyond!

Nursing staff on the 3rd floor (not in maternity) working 12/9-10-11 desperately needs re-training for every aspect of their job.extremely unprofessional.
I witnessed personal cell phone use in the patient room, (multiple phone ringer volumes on high, watched a nurse take facebook messenger call during elder patient care).
treatment of non-verbal senior was disgraceful, they gossiped & spoke in high voices as if the patient wasn't even there.observed multiple HIPPA violations (leaving procected patient information in eyeshot of non-patients)
This general lack of human empathy is no environment for anyone to heal in.
There was 1 exceptional nurse (I don't know their name, but they had moved from Texas in 2020) - She was the only nurse that actually seemed trained & interacted kindly to the patient.it was heartbreaking to see the treatment & disrespect from the staff at Bassett Cooperstown Hospital. I will never allow another family member to be treated here.

I went into Bassett as an emergency patient On Thanksgiving evening two days later, I had my gallbladder out. My family and I were visiting, upstate for the holidays. I must tell you the care and treatment I received there was nothing less than phenomenal. The staff was courteous attentive. The physicians did a superb job on my procedure. They got me out when they said they would. The nursing staff was a real tribute to the hospital for the car I received from them.thank you to Bassett and my nurses for really doing a superb job. He made what was otherwise pretty terrible ordeal very manageable.

This use to be a good Hospital… now it is nothing but a joke. I won’t post what happened to me and how I was treated but I will say it was bad and this place should be shut down.

Never again smh Do better! Very rude staff and very uncaring doctor we had. He wouldn’t even address the “worst headache of my life” so if this ends up to be a head bleed. There will be legal actions taken for negligence. Multiple times we asked for results and his headache to be addressed, 6 hrs later, still here and still nothing ordered for this severe Migraine. (ER Tech from a out of state hospital here, that took my brother in law in to be seen)

I have been attempting to make an appointment with Bassett Healthcare in Cooperstown for 3 days. You are left on hold for unreasonable periods of time until you finally hang up. I attempted to leave a call back number as prompted, no one ever calls you back. I finally got a person on the phone and after being on hold for 43 minutes today. First the person kept telling me her computer kept freezing up and to hold on. When she finally was able to take down my information, she said she would transfer me to the department I was attempting to make an appointment with. She disconnected me. This is just the latest experience with Bassett. Every single time I have to deal with that hospital, it is an exercise in frustration and incompetence. I have been slowly obtaining doctors at Albany Medical Center and it's worth the drive from Cooperstown. Bassett should close it's doors - it cannot keep doctors or nurses to treat patients. If you can, find someplace else for your medical care.

A 5 star review AND a 0 star:

In the past 2 years we've had 2 miscarriages. In the past, both miscarriages happened at 6 weeks. We recently became pregnant again in July of 2023, so going into my first ultrasound I was extremely anxious. Unfortunately I do not remember the gentleman’s name who saw us and cannot find it in MyChart records, but he was AMAZING. There was a student who was practicing ultrasounds that day when we went in. She started the ultrasound on me, but was a bit unsure of what to do and what to look for, so she was very quiet. The gentleman technician started chatting with my husband and I and found out we had miscarried twice before and could tell how anxious I was to confirm heart beat or not. He did a FANTASTIC job of taking over and immediately confirming a positive heart beat. His emotional intelligence in that moment was incredible and I believe that was also an awesome learning experience for the student to see how to handle a situation as well. We are incredibly grateful for him!

In the same breath I also have to acknowledge what terrible care I received from ROSA P VUOJOLAINEN, CNM. For the first trimester of my pregnancy I was denied multiple times for testing and medication stating that the "ACOG doesn't recommend such procedures until you've miscarried 3 times. " These tests were very basic and routine. I felt disrespected and like a statistic. She is the definition of how women should NOT be treated during pregnancy, especially after experiencing multiple losses. I never leave negative reviews, but as a nutritionist and advocate for women who have experience loss, I felt the need to disclose this information. Unfortunately, I ended up leaving the facility due to her lack of care and support as a provider.

Your cafeteria is a disgusting disgrace!
The meal in a plastic box for dinner last night I wouldn’t feed to a dog. It looked like leftovers from everyone’s plates from a week ago. One would think a hospital would offer healthy fare but there’s no such thing. The place needs a thorough cleaning.

Cooperstown, NY Bassett Health. I’ve been twice to this ER in 2/3 years and had similar, troubling experiences, including pharmacy, so this isn’t a “one-off”. I made it out of there, and that’s what counts… the rest was up to me. Why did they transmit my prescription with a phone number I haven’t used in years, was connected to a credit card that is cancelled and part of a fraud investigation? I didn’t give them that number. Hm. Anyone with a 3 letter ID listening?

My mother-in-law was taken initially to Cobleskill Hospital and then transferred when her blood oxygen plummeted. In parallel with this, she has also suffered severe cognitive decline. Despite this, not once did a pulmonologist see her or run any lung function tests. Because she's in her 70s, they just released her to a nursing home, where she suffered another hypoxic episode.

My grandfather was admitted to Basset after being transferred from Community Memorial in Hamilton NY. A hospital we've had trouble with in the past and only go to to it being closer than both Bassett or St Joseph's in Syracuse. Bassett Hospital on the other hand was fantastic, especially the I. C. U. Everyone in there, the nurses, the doctors, palliative care team, surgeons, everyone we dealt with treated us like family members, it felt personal and compassionate, not like my grandfather was a number in a chart somewhere. I cannot say enough good things about them or how they cared for him.

We've been to numerous hospitals in the Central NY region over the years due to declining health of elderly family members. I used to think St Joseph's was the best, and they used to be, but after COVID with all the staffing shortages, even they have fallen off in terms of standard of care and overall treatment of patients. That was not the case with Bassett. It was our first experience with them and by far the best our family has ever experienced. The one doctor I will always remember for his grace and compassion is Dr. Hodgdon in the I. C. U. As well as nurse Tyler. Thank you to all of them.

Their "urgent cares" are often scheduling more than a day in advance, so you can't just "walk in". Their primary care doctors don't stick around, so even if you get a good one, they're gone within a year.

Their specialists are generally really good, but they tend to schedule appointments months in advance, then cancel them a week ahead of time because they're going to "be out of the office on that day". Can't doctors schedule their vacations in advance so patients don't get scheduled during them? They couldn't reschedule me until more than a month away. It's a good thing my concerns weren't urgent.

I am not really good about writing reviews, but I had to post this. My mother recently was admitted to Basset Medical Center. The care she received there from the emergency department to ICU, the step down unit and the fourth floor was phenomenal. We met so many people I don’t remember all of the names but the nurses Ian and Karen in the ICU stand out as exceptionally compassionate and skilled caregivers. Brooke, the nursing assistant on the fourth floor, also stands out as an exceptionally compassionate care giver. From security to the cafeteria to the nursing units, everything was superior. I am a medical professional from another state and familiar with how hospitals work. I was amazed at Bassett Medical Center. I wish I lived closer because I would choose this as my hospital. I will always be grateful for the care they provided my mother.

Nurse's in the ER (not all but a couple are very rude). DR. 's (Not all but most of them) are uncaring and most treat the patients by age not symptoms. Good for a hangnail or a little booboo,

Dealt with a bunch of students while my fiance was giving birth, the actual paid doctors/nurses we maybe saw 5 time over the 3 days we were their, not to mention the amount of times we've had to redo paperwork while there (cause they'd drop off the papers then just leave) and no again cause, and I quote "legal documents have to be in black not blue" even though they only supplied us with blue pens, honestly I've never seen such incompetence from medical professionals and I'm just happy that mama and baby got home safely, if you can help it go literally anywhere else: edit just wanted to say the the midwife was fantastic though

I had surgery there last week and I couldn't be happier with my experience. From security all the way through to discharge, everyone was cheery and helpful. The biggest shout-out goes to the nursing staff that was there preparing me for surgery. They were so kind and funny. I was a ball of nerves, but they took the time to explain everything very clearly and even toss in a few laughs. Thank you all so very much <3
P. S. Ecstatic to see that the little red wagon used to bring little kids into surgery is still there! 33 years ago I too was pulled down the hall in it!

I would not recommend this place. They have a bad habit of rescheduling appointment without due notice, and you can show up and they have cancelled without telling you. They are not about patients but about insurance claims. If you really want to feel like a number, then go. I will now have to seek alternative providers which means a longer drive. Too bad they cannot live up to the hype of their commercials.

This is how Bassett treats its employees. 10,000 to new employees and the ones who have been here for YEARS! And have to actually train these new employees GET ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!
