6A really convenient location, this place is located inside of a King Kullen, making it a perfect place to do your weekend shopping for groceries and take care of some personal banking. I love the fact they have such long hours on the weekend making it easy for me to take care of errands and paying bills all on the same day and location. I have been a member of BFCU for over thirteen years and unfortunately this may be the beginning of the end. This past weekend I was the victim of debit card fraud and I went to the King Kullen branch for help on Sunday morning. I was told by the assistant manager that “9 times out 10” I won’t get my money back because the fraud was done through a money app. She said that this type of fraud is becoming more common and if the application itself doesn’t give me my money back then Bethpage will not. I told her that I was not even a user of the app and I do not have an account. She then said in an accusatory tone, “well if you had absolutely nothing to do with this, and we find that you didn’t do this then MAYBE you’ll be the 1 out of ten times and get your money back”. Anyone who has gone through this understands the degree of vulnerability and violation that is felt after an incident such as this. But to feel like a suspect, and to be told that your financial institution will not protect your money from fraud is devastating.
I then told her that I am an upstanding individual and work very hard for my money. I told her this is insane and to pass my concerns to the manager and then she said “I am the manager” but according to her name tag it said “assistant manager”.
Bethpage also does not have a 24 hour line to report fraud with the actual credit union. You are only able to stop your debit card through a general MasterCard line.
Take heed to this story because according the the assistant manager at this branch, 90% of the time Bethpage will not protect you from fraud. Take your money to a bank or credit union where they value your business and don’t treat you like a suspect when you report fraud.
I contacted the 800 line this morning who processed my fraud claim. I will still have to wait 7-10 business days. I will let the process play out, but if there’s no protection from Bethpage I, along with all of my family member will pull our various accounts from Bethpage.
The staffs are friendly and nice but the manager Andrew is the best! Very helpful, friendly and nice, his swrvice to the community and members is above and beyond
