Bettina Equities reviews
8Unnecessarily stringent approval process, generally unreasonable once you are a tenant, somehow provocative and take little care in the actual people that rent their apartments.
Worked with Lisa on finding an apartment, and looked at several of their units. Out of all the other companies & agents I worked with Bettina was by far the most responsive, and we were able to get everything taken care within a few days - even as I was looking during the holidays.
Everything was laid out clearly with no surprises, and were nothing but helpful!
We lived two years in one of their UES building. I found them very professional yet stricter than other landlords. We are french and had no credit score when we moved to the US so they asked us to add more security deposit than usual. Although they might be a bit hard to reach sometimes, i've always managed to get through them whenever we had an issue. The superintendant in our building, Zijiad, was always super helpful and courteous and made the move-out process seamless for us. They returned our deposit promptly within a week of our move via wire transfer at my request since we were moving out of the country. Overall a pleasant experience!
Very professional! They made the apartment search very easy. The apartment building is clean, safe and well maintained. I highly recommend Bettina.
They were great when I moved in. The super was extremely helpful and the staff in general was responsive. But the moment I moved out of the apartment they are impossible to get hold of. A month and a half have passed since I moved out of town, I'm yet to receive my security deposit back after trying to unsuccessfully contact them via email and phone calls. Every time I call them, Cassandra, the person who handles security deposits is always on another call. I was told I'd get a call back, but I'm yet to. This has been the most unpleasant experience in the three years that I rented in New York.
Give this company a chance! They are actually professional, efficient, and attentive to the needs of their residents.
Like most New York landlords, Bettina Equitites are basically extortion artists. I actually enjoyed living in the building, but due to being offered a job across the country, I had to break my lease. In addition to continuing to charge me rent until the apartment was rerented (which is almost reasonable), they charged me an $800 termination fee. What did they do to deserve that $800? Well, all the stuff they would have done anyway at the end of my lease anyway. So basically, they ended up with more money than had I stayed in the apartment for the original duration of the lease. I don't think that's right. I'm not saying that other New York landlords wouldn't have done the same, but that doesn't make it any less unethical.
When requesting the $800 payment from me, their office staff extorted me into paying by threatening to involve $400 an hour lawyers and bill me for the fees, and to increase the termination fee to a full months rent. They then also threatened to go back and charge me for painting and maintenance of the apartment. Hey, I'm not a $400 an hour lawayer, but that sounds illegal to me.
Sadly, Bettina does not choose to elevate themselves above the level of the average scumbag landlord in NYC. Good riddance.
