BK Fit Studios - Bushwick reviews
5 I've been doing Crossfit for over ten years and travel quite a bit. This is the worst Crossfit gym I've ever been to. It's wildly expensive which you would expect for NYC, but for the same price as Equinox, you get no locker room, no showers, no steam room, no towels, no paper towels or anything useful in the bathroom and even 1 ply toilet paper. There are only two often dirty and out of service bathrooms that really need a renovation.
Classes aren't great either, instructors either play bad music or sound like they hate public speaking. There are only 5 classes a day during the week, 2 on Saturday and none on Sunday.
I signed up for a membership for the 6 months I was in NYC, and no one explained that in order to cancel a membership you have to give them a min.of 30 days notice! As if I was signing an apartment lease! It's apparently in the terms of use contract but it's a predatory move to hide that important fact in legalese and not actually say it to the person signing up. When I tried to end my membership a very reasonable 21 days before the next payment due date, they said no. They wanted to charge me for the next month, which means charging me for 51 days of unused gym time. This is predatory practice.
Great vibes, great staff, even better pumps.
Went home and I couldn’t fit into my clothes anymore.
Been a member for a little less than three years now!
The coaches are great. Everyone's got their own vibe, but they're all solid at making workouts safe and accessible to everyone in the class, no matter their skill level. I've yet to be in a class that wasn't supportive and encouraging of the participants.
Physically, the Bushwick gym is good. Plenty of equipment and space for the number of people in the classes (if you're okay with the occasional partner workout, which I enjoy).
The strength/skill parts of the workouts are well-designed. We're just finishing a strength cycle now (Wendler), and I've increased my max weight for both deadlift and push press. (Hopefully squat too; test day's later this week.: -D)
Amazing gym, great space and equiptment, superb classes and staff. It is quite expensive though
I cannot further recommend taking classes here. The coaches, specifically Bonnie and Will, are kind, passionate, inspiring, and knowledable. As a previously 'regular gym-goer', I was skeptical to join, but was instantly welcomed as a newcomer and felt right at home shortly after.
I am in the absolute best shape of my life and am only leaving because I'm moving — but will certainly continue my Crossfit journey. I have only positive things to say. Drop in once and you'll be hooked!
