We are very happy with BluePearl, Brooklyn. Ji-In Lee, DVM, oncologist is wonderful! While it has not been easy to get a diagnosis of inoperable Squamous Cell Carcinoma for our dear doggie, Dr. Lee has been compassionate, problem-solving and friendly. Her assistants have been great too. We would also like to praise the reception and billing staff. While needing veterinary cancer care is not something we would choose willingly, we feel that there is no better place than the Brooklyn office of BluePearl.

I will be forever grateful to Blue Pearl and Dr. Guzman for successfully diagnosing my cat with heart disease. I had been to my regular vet twice already in the past month when he showed signs of illness. I expected a blockage, since I suspected he had not peed in 24 hours. The front desk staff brought him upstairs immediately and treated his case as an emergency. Luckily, there was no blockage, but Dr. Guzman noticed that he had a heart issue. I elected not to do diagnostic tests at Blue Pearl because it was no longer an emergency, and the projected bill was so gosh-darn expensive. I appreciated their transparency. At the end of the day, what matters most to me is that a vet can treat my animal companions correctly, and in this case, Blue Pearl went above and beyond.

Blue Pearl is extremely predatory, neglectful, deceptive, incompetent, and incredibly rough with animals. They only care about money, not your pet. Trust the negative reviews: they are real – go to nearby VERG instead.

After charging $1,500, Blue Pearl missed an easy diagnosis for a serious illness that another vet caught later. Worse, they injured our cat during his visit: he came home traumatized, bloody and dirty, and with blood blisters on his paws and a ripped claw.

During the visit, Blue Pearl intentionally mischaracterized and withheld the extent of the injuries our cat sustained in all their communications with us, verbal and written. They inaccurately described the injuries to us as "reddened paws". We only discovered the torn claw and blistered paw pads once we returned home. We tried many times to find out what happened but they refused to provide answers. When pressed about concerns of possible infections from his injuries, Blue Pearl did let slip that they had "cleaned his wounds" during the visit to prevent infection. Their story changed only when firmly called out.

Blue Pearl immediately blamed our cat for his injuries. Other reviews have noted that Blue Pearl labels cats they’re unable to handle safely as “fractious” and “extremely aggressive”. In 7 years of vet visits, nothing like this ever happened to our cat anywhere except at Blue Pearl. Competent and compassionate care should mean being able to treat frightened cats without harming them.

Blue Pearl missed an inner-ear growth that our primary veterinarian was able to diagnose later without the multiple diagnostic tests Blue Pearl insisted on running needlessly. Blue Pearl’s doctors neglected to inspect our cat's ears properly, and even noted them as "unremarkable" in their post-visit report. They blatantly ignored the symptoms we reported, and throughout the visit we did not receive adequate information to advocate for our cat in order to secure proper care.

Blue Pearl does not adequately seek consent from owners when performing tests. We explicitly asked to approve expensive radiographs before they ran them, as we had recently had some run elsewhere. Despite this, their doctor did not seek our consent and ran expensive tests that were absolutely unnecessary. This is extremely predatory and they refused to acknowledge we did not consent to the tests.

Getting any kind of clear answers from Blue Pearl is incredibly hard. Every single person you speak with evades questions with alarmingly similar language. They all shift blame to the animal for any failures on their part, and their responses are clearly meant to build a case against you and your pet. It took many calls to get Blue Pearl to acknowledge it was inappropriate that our cat was injured in their care. But this hardly makes up for the trauma our sick cat underwent. Avoid Blue Pearl at all costs.

I've had 2 different experiences taking my cat here. The staff is very nice and the vet explained everything to me that was happening. It is not the most expensive option for an emergency (though stabilization might be a different story) and if you have pet insurance it won't hurt you too badly. I recommend if needed.

If you don't want to kill your pet, don't bring it here! For the clinic staff, the most important thing is to get as much money from you as possible, and not to cure him! I brought my boy in with a heart attack, he needed furosemide and oxygen. While he was dying, they demanded that I pay $5,000 for therapy that he would no longer need.and did not even tell me that he was dying. I was ready to pay any money just for him to survive. I found these 5000 in an hour and a half, but my boy died during this time from pulmonary edema, without receiving the necessary furosemide. The clinic reduced my bill to 2200 dollars after my boy died! I really regret that I came here, not even because of the money, but because of the indifference and incompetence of the doctors who killed him in cold blood. I heard him cry in the examination room, where I was not allowed, and saw how they did artificial respiration, tormenting his already lifeless body, instead of providing the necessary assistance in time. Don't go to them!
And the response to the clinic’s comment to my review: The qualifications of your doctors do not matter if they are absolutely soulless, have no compassion for animals and work only for money. When my dog died, one of your doctors told me: "Don't worry, nothing terrible has happened, buy yourself another dog" I believe that your clinic has no right to work with such doctors and with such an attitude to animals. For them, our animals are just a way to make money. You just need to close up

Doctors at Blue Pearl saved my dog Joey’s life. I took my dog to joey’s regular vet reporting he was drinking lots of water and urinating more then usual. He was checked for cushion disease. And nothing else. His blood test were good. So I was told he was fine. Then I took him for his vaccinations and ask for his blood to be tested reason being he was on a medication for a high alt. His blood was tested the potassium was high. I was told maybe it’s his kidneys bring his urine in. I’m going on vacation I’ll be back next week said the vet. No emergency. Well when it comes to my fur Baby I’m not waiting. Then overnight he stop eating I wasn’t going to waste any time. I took him to Blue pearl and told them the same symptoms and immediately they had and idea what was wrong. Before any tests or treatments were done it was explained by the veterinarian what tests and treatments were needed. I agreed and they proceeded. He was given a test to check for Addison’s Disease and was given Electrolytes And I was given a steroid pill I was told don’t start it until test results come back. The next day it was confirmed my dog had Addison’s diseases. That has to do with the Adrenal Glands. He wasn’t eating for a few days after and lost weight he went from 13 pounds to Five pound. When I started giving him the the steroid pill Dr Campbell said His appetite will improve and it did. Now he weighs 13 Again and wants to eat all the time from the medication. It’s fine I give him vegetables In between as directed. Now he is fine with medications and regular blood tests he can live a healthy life. Dr Joseph Campbell, Dr David Wohlstadter, Dr Laura Stock Explained everything so I understood completely what has to be done long term. All the Doctors, all Pharmacists, all the veterinarian technicians, and all the front staff are welcoming, knowledgeable, and caring. I E- Mailed the front desk a few times with questions and they were answered promptly. The Hospital is very clean, the examination rooms, The waiting room as you enter each time I have been there, there is a young man cleaning. He does an excellent job. I highly recommend Blue Pearl. And thank each and everyone of you from the bottom of my heart for saving my Joey’ s life.
Our sincere gratitude Rose Sessa / Camille Agro

I’m here today for my cat, Oliver, and have been here several times for my two dogs. Blue Pearl is consistently top notch! Every single employee from the front desk to the doctors and everyone in between are knowledgeable, professional, considerate, compassionate and just really sweet! They make these not so fun times that much easier. I can’t say enough good things about them.

Don’t go to them. NEVER!
I never write reviews and hesitated for 6 month but I’ve been hearing similar stories as mine and decided to write about my experience.
My frenchie had lung problem and wouldn’t survive without without the oxygen. They were telling me he was improving but played on my emotions. Kept him for 3 days and after I begged them to tell me if he’ll survive, they told me to put him down. They billed me $10,000 for three days plus treatments but the worst part, they wouldn’t give our ashes unless we pay the full bill.
I begged them to give us a discount but they said, there’s nothing they can do.

6 month later, I heard two identical stories from others and one of them is suing Bluepearl.

Be careful, they know how to play on your emotions and rip you off.

We brought a severely neglected, starving rescue dog to BluePearl. The dog had not seen a vet and we were unsure whether he would live. The staff was unbelievably kind and understanding. They went above and beyond-grooming, rehydrating and evaluating our dog. They gave us hope for the dog and hope for humanity!

My dog, Bagel, was diagnosed with IMHA at another ER and needed a blood transfusion. We were recommended to go to Blue Pearl at 3rd Ave in Brooklyn as they had specialists here to assist with Bagel's condition. Upon arrival, the staff at the front desk was already expecting us and knew who we were once I mentioned Bagel's name. Within 10 minutes, Bagel was escorted up to their examination rooms for diagnostics. Bagel was hospitalized for 5 days with multiple blood transfusions. It was an extremely stressful and sleep depriving situation, but the staff at BluePearl made the experience more tolerable with their professionalism and responsiveness.

We probably called for updates at least 3 times a day and was met with extreme professionalism each time. Staff was courteous and sympathetic - recognizing our voice and was extremely responsive to follow ups. We visited Bagel every day and never did we have a bad experience with the staff. Bagel was discharged after 5 days and they were thorough with at home care instructions.

I had trouble the first night, administering medicine and had to call BluePearl for assistance. The doctor at that time was extremely helpful and helped me prioritize which meds we had to get into her if we had a limited window of success. She was extremely patient and also provided tips on how to get Bagel to take the pills. I do not remember her name, but I am hoping she will get the recognition for her assistance even though she was not Bagel’s primary doctor. She was also the doctor on duty, the first night, we visited Bagel.

Now onto the staff that I did meet who I am extremely grateful for. Dr. Campbell was Bagel’s primary doctor and he was extremely knowledgeable in his field; providing educational and crucial information to me that helped us make our decisions every step of the way. Dr. Kyle Krellwitz was another staff member that helped us immensely during this stressful period – he was thorough on the phone and was extremely patient in person. He gave us all the time we needed during visiting hours and answered any questions we had while showing sympathy to our situation. I have not met Dr. Mallika Prabhakar, but I know she was very much involved with Bagel’s case – unfortunately, the times we visited, she was not on duty, but I want her to know that her assistance and care is much appreciated. There is one particular staff member that I want to make sure gets recognition is Kate from internal medicine…She is a gem and very responsive. She provided lots of tips and also sent follow up emails asking about Bagel’s recovery at home – this made the whole experience extremely personable. She was also the one we spoke with at discharge and provided lots of tips and advice. There was another lady with her at discharge who I do not know her name, but I know she also took care of Bagel during her hospitalization and wanted to extend my appreciation for her as well. Everyone including the reception has been exceptional.

I do not know what Bagel’s future holds and I know there will be a long tough road ahead of us with this horrible autoimmune disease, but one thing I do know is that BluePearl’s staff played a huge role in helping Bagel get to the point of discharge. Many times, people only leave reviews due to bad/unfortunate experiences as that is all they would focus on in the moment; but rarely do people leave reviews for good experiences as they just go about their day after the ordeal, so I wanted to make sure that BluePearl gets their recognition for their love of pets and care for animals.

Everyone here was kind and helpful. We went in with our sick new kitten in the evening when our regular vet couldn’t take us. The vet came and looked at her and had her eat some food and determined she’d be just fine overnight and recommended we make a regular vet appointment to get her meds the following day since the fees here at the ER would be so much higher. She sent us home with half a can of food and didn’t charge us a dime. A real homie.

My 12 year old cat went to Blue Pearl for the second time in June. It is a comfort to know that we have this place close by. He was lethargic while my partner and I were away on vacation and a friend brought him to Blue Pearl. He needed CPR, which is about as scary as it gets, and was in the ICU, but after a few days he was miraculously able to return home, albeit much weaker than before. Dr. Williams and the team at Blue Pearl held our hands every step of the way— listening compassionately when we visited our boy in the ICU, explaining their clinical observations, and providing guidance on next steps. Dr. Williams has called us a few times to check in since our cat left the hospital, which is really going above and beyond the call of duty, and I appreciate his ongoing advice so much.

I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Dr. Williams, the nurses, and the ICU staff to anyone who needs emergency care for their pets. It is an expensive service as some others have commented, but this is New York AND this is health care. I wish it were different, but considering the level of service they are providing it is well worth it. Our cat is totally recovered, and that’s the best review I can offer.
