Brasserie Cognac East reviews
18Very pleasant welcome. Quick order. Excellent table service. Pleasant, tasty French cuisine. Quality ratio taken correct. General friendly atmosphere.
Decent steak tartare. Total miss on escargot. Believable deserts. Labaude Xo was a bit harsh
Went there on a Saturday night for a table for 3, had made reservations only an hour prior.
Greeted, seated promptly and were happily relocated to the table we asked for.
The bread, drinks, food and the service was what you'd expect at a Brasserie.
Would definitely go back and the prices are very reasonable.
Food is decent but not spectacular. Service same. I would give both a 3.5 if that was an option. Bread was stale. Appetizer of goat cheese puff pastry had too much puff, not enough goat. Salmon over cooked. Apple tart acceptable but on the bland side. Service also spotty, forgot the lemon for the fish. We had good company, which made the evening memorable, but the restaurant did not add.
A rather typical French UES restaurant with relatively senior crowd. Inside is cuter than outside, both are pretty spacious, there are also tables on the upper floor.
A good find - brut champagne for $17 (decent quality as opposed to many overpriced bubbles), a great value for UES. The octopus salad was great with plenty of charred octopus, tuna tartar was OK. The apple tart tatin tasted better than it looked. Overall a solid choice for a casual and quiet dinner / lunch in the area.
It's good to start to finish. The staff members were friendly and kind. The food is delicious I love French cuisine, although it is expensive but most importantly is the food delicious and yummy yummy
Brasserie Cognac is a very special restaurant with an exceptional menu that offers classic French cuisine along with comfort foods like outstanding homemade chicken salad as well as tender and delicious steaks and seafood entrees. They also have a wonderful lunch menu! They have a lovely dining room as well as lovely outdoor dining options. Reservations are encouraged and their staff provides exceptional service.
Oysters had shell pieces in them from not being shucked properly. Meal was good, but not great. However, creme brulee was outstanding at the end of meal.
Pretty bistro with standard French fare. Place is pricey, which I’m fine with, so long as the food is good. Started with a salad, it was very tasty, decent portion with a house made vinaigrette. Went on to the French onion soup. Everyone knows one of the best parts is eating the slightly crisped cheese on the outside. This cheese was melted but the chef did not really brown it all. Once I got to the soup part it was off tasting. Hard to describe, maybe it was just freshly made or even perhaps just watered down. It was very sweet, like someone added sugar to compensate for not caramelizing the onions. For $18 I sent it back. My next course was the fondue. Also a huge disappointment. Terrible flavor and consistency. No cheese pull at all. Points for adding wine but maybe too much wine? They paired it with stale bread. Not sure what other posters were talking about with the veggies that come with it, but I didn’t get any. I ended up using the bread from the basket they provided at the beginning of the meal. I also didn’t eat much of it because I didn’t want to send back yet another awful dish.
My daughter got the beef Bourgogne. That was very good. The meat was fork tender and not dried out at all. The sauce was rich and the plate well balanced with veggies and well made mashed potatoes.
The service was good.
I’ve eaten here before. Had the French onion soup last time and it was tasty so I’m thinking perhaps the chef was having an off day.
The food was absolutely Devine. The dessert was my fa favorite The service was desirable and you're likely to run into neighborhood friends with good taste
The cheese soufflé at Brasserie Cognac was a culinary masterpiece. The fluffy, golden-brown exterior concealed a creamy and rich cheese filling. It was a delightful dish that demonstrated the restaurant's expertise in French cuisine.
The salads at Brasserie Cognac are fresh and vibrant. The verde salad, with its crisp greens and tangy dressing, was a refreshing option. It complemented the main course perfectly and added a healthy touch to the meal.
The spinach and avocado salad at Brasserie Cognac was a delightful combination of flavors. The fresh spinach leaves, creamy avocado slices, and zesty dressing created a harmonious blend. It was a light and nutritious choice.
I couldn't resist trying the goat cheese and tomato tart at Brasserie Cognac, and it exceeded my expectations. The combination of creamy goat cheese, ripe tomatoes, and flaky pastry was a harmonious blend of flavors. A true delight!
I had an incredible dining experience at Brasserie Cognac in Manhattan. The cheese puffs, or 'gougers, ' were a perfect start to the meal. They were light, fluffy, and filled with savory cheese. A delightful appetizer!
Always was a neighborhood favorite bistro. We've gone frequently for years. It's our neighborhood bistro.
Sadly seems to have gone downhill. Our service was extremely disappointing. Drinks came after the first course. Place was too busy for one bartender. Etc.
Had to send a mediocre sirloin steak back two times. My son saw it being refinished in the microwave while he was visiting the men's room. Not generally considered an appropriate fix for a steak.
It used to be a great hanger steak, always served to perfection. It's now second rate sirloin even when it's finally medium rare.
Gougeres were not puffy and cheesy. Obviously reheated. But recommend both the croque monsieur and cheese souffle. Also the tuna tartare.
Popularity has caused food and service to suffer significantly. Go on a Monday. Maybe.
It's not all bad but meh for the service and full pricing.
The place is cozy, the service is pleasant, the staff are polite and patient.
For starters I ordered lobster salad to share. It was delicious and serves 2 people.
Main course we ordered Beef Bourgnhon and Scallops with foam and asparagus risotto. Both dishes were incredible, lots of flavor, the meat falling apart, and the scallops were fresh to a point that I love, it was an explosion of flavor.
The dessert menu is poor. (I ordered a raspberry creme brule and couldn't eat it. Unfortunately it had an artificial flavor) I personally think the dessert menu is the weak point of the place.
I confess that after eating the main course, which was spectacular, my expectation was a dessert something like Gateu OPÉRA or Mil Folhas.
Gorgeous, delicious cuisine, varied menu, pleasing atmosphere, charming staff. My new favorite restaurant in this neighborhood!
