I have been training in the Bujinkan since 2005. After relocating to NYC, I was searching for a dojo to continue my Bujinkan journey. I am delighted to have found Sensei Oliver Martin’s Maten Dojo. The quality of the instruction is top-notch, and my fellow students in the dojo are a pleasure to train with. The live partner training and the online classes and resources have inspired me to improve my physical fitness and reinvigorated my love of Bujinkan BudoTaijutsu!

I joined Sensei Oliver's classes online from overseas a couple of years ago, during lockdown in NZ. I can say that I have benefited a lot from these classes. Sensei has been a major influence in getting me back in shape, both in my Martial arts journey as well as all round physical and mental health. This was a huge help for me during the COVID era lockdowns. From getting me to do cardio, Flexibility and strength building exercise to meditation and mindfulness. I was also able to keep in touch and improve on my martial art skills immensely. I'm now visiting NY, and am thoroughly enjoying these classes live with Sensei Oliver and Sempai Pak.

Sensei Oliver Martin commands an immense degree of depth and breadth in his art. His teaching style is outstanding and strikes a balance between building strong and consistent foundation while also teaching progressively complex concepts and skills over time. He is not only a knowledgeable and effective teacher, but is a highly skilled practitioner of the art.

His well-rounded philosophy emphasizes the importance of all facets of the art, from combat and self-defense, to key philosophical tenets, to the habits and tools of proper mindset, to physical and mental resilience and conditioning.

Equally important, it becomes very clear while working with Sensei Oliver that he holds great passion and commitment to not only the art of Ninjitsu and the practice of Budo, but to his students as well.

As a lifelong learner across several domains, I feel blessed to have found Sensei Oliver in my journey, and look forward to the many years ahead in building my practice of the art and integrating it into my life.

Sensei Oliver is great teacher in the art budo taijitsu as well a very spiritual man, I did not know that I was looking for that when I first came into the dojo, he leads by example and is well respected by his peers in and out of Japan, it's been great to watch the dojo grow under his tutelage.

I have been training here since 2019 and I thoroughly enjoy the training, the atmosphere, the teacher and students. Sensei trains us in the fundamental form of the Bujinkan Martial Art while respecting its origins. He teaches us the fundamental form in online classes every week (rain or shine). He teaches us basic movements shapes and he has designed the training for us in a way that allows us to follow the instructions while online while understanding how the body can develop power through these movements for self defense and with strength. He has also designed a curriculum that includes whole body conditioning starting from developing customized diet routine to intermittent fasting to proven alternatives. I was able to see a significant drop in unhealthy weight while also improving my energy levels. In addition, Sensei has designed a customized body conditioning routine for me with stretches, kettle bells and movements. I was able to develop a core strength  while I previously had none. While starting his classes in the late 40s and coming from a non-athletic background I never expected to see so much improvement in my strength, ability to endure 3-4 hours of face-to-face classes that involve punches, strikes, grappling, rolls with the basic core strength and body conditioning that allowed me to train without any injury. The very knowledgeable and dedicated Senior Instructor Senpai Pak guides us through the face-to-face classes while patiently teaching us the Kihon Happo and a lot of its variations while showing us real applications and context. Sensei and Sempai keep the training real for us while utilizing the 1000 + year art from in a current day context teaching us the self-defense, spiritual, mental, and physical aspects of the art. The training here is a lot of fun and very interesting while Sensei has a diverse background of students who come from a varied professional background. Sensei has designed the online and in person training curriculum such that it allow us to train consistently a it does not interrupt our busy professional schedules and personal commitments.
