Italian Restaurant Carmine's reviews
18 Lovely experience, food was amazing…. Everyone left happy after a great meal at a nice iconic NYC restaurant.
Just do not forget this place is FAMILY STYLE. We saw three people next to us how they’d saw each other “we f’up”, they had app, plus three entrees.
Was great, took my mom & family from out of town
Portions are large.will typically feed 5 or 6 per entre.family style
Great place to dine especially if u have a party of 5 or better
Very crowded, loud. You do sit very close to other tables, so you may have to squeeze in. However, the ambiance was nice and the food was amazing! We shared and took food home. We had the Ravioli w/vodka sauce. The focaccia was omg, oh so good! And they sang to my hunny fir his bday w/ice cream!
Bar was rocking, instead of waiting for a table. The bartender put on an excellent drink making show. The crowd on a Tuesday was electric. Food was more than enough from one order for 2 starving diners
Food was not really bad but The sever was RACIST.
He didnt serve or check anything but asked for the tip very confidently to my face.
At the end he just gave the receipt and didn't return the card on purpose.
Worst place ever lol
Dishes are well served, with one dish serving 3 adults (adults who are not very hungry) or two very hungry adults. The taste of the food is nothing great. Just a normal pasta that we easily find in Brazil on any corner. It's worth the price if you want to stop eating fast foods.
The food was very good, but above all Johnatan's attention was incredible, he made us spend an unforgettable night, look for him who will surely provide you with great service
Thank you Johnatan for the VERY good attention
The food was great. A first time experience, there for family.
I would only say pay close attention to prices and how many shared dishes you get. We ordered three appetizers, 2 pastas, chicken, the steak, two desserts for a large party. Yes we had alcohol but never in my wildest imagination did I expect the total bill before tip end being over 600 dollars. I am sure it was the porterhouse which we did not ask how much it was. Still a great restaurant but if you don’t like to share food not the place.
10 of us went before a show and every aspect of the experience was phenomenal.
Highly recommended!
I went for a birthday like two weeks ago the food was amazing. The whole experience from start to finish was great our waitress Erica was always so friendly, kind and funny. The food can’t get better and the prices are fair for the portion size. Always a great spot to get great food will definitely come back.
Went here for my birthday dinner and it was amazing! The penne pasta, Caesar salad, and blueberry mojito were 10/10
Great food. Bar staff downstairs were Avery nice and made great drinks. I was hungry they brought me and my husband bread basket. That was very nice of them. Seafood dia vlo was great, we had 7 people in our party stead was great, Carmines salad was very good. We had a great time will come back again.
Always great but always busy. A lot of seating at the bar was available and the bartenders were great.
How have I not known about this place? With as much time as I've spent in the City and as many stays across the street at the Marriott, I've never paid attention to this Italian gem. Fortunately for me, a couple coworkers introduced me to Carmine's. They've been there enough to be treated as regulars which was a nice touch. We started at the bar with a couple Old Fashioneds (good ones seem to be more difficult than they should be to find in NYC). For dinner, we skipped the apps, ordered the Spaghetti with meatballs and the Salmon special of the day. Huge portions and the dishes were absolutely amazing. Looking forward to getting back there, even if it is in the Times Square area.
Nice place, ambiance, and food. But for some reason I still can only give it a 4. Not sure why. Had a nice time though. Can’t say anything bad about the place.
I've really put consideration into how to rate Carmines and will say this. For my experience this time- 3 stars. If I were to go with a group- it might get 4. Here's the issue. My husband and I are foodies. We love to try a variety of dishes. We knew going in this was a family style restaurant, but having heard a lot about it really wanted to give it a try. Overall, the food was good, but nothing special. Before I dig into food I will say the ambiance is pretty average. They really pack in the tables, so you are on top of the people next to you. It was really hard as a therapist to not lean over and provide some family therapy to the table next to us who are going THROUGH it. Service was also ok. Took awhile for someone to come over initially despite the fact they weren't busy at that time, but once we got going they were attentive.
The one exception to the perfectly average food was the stuffed mushroom appetizer. Those were incredibly good- the mushrooms were firm and the stuffing had the right amount of spice to it and not too bready. I will also say I loved the variety of breads (many focaccias) they serve. For dinner we got the chicken scallopini and roasted potatoes. Because of the size of the dishes we had to choose a main and side to share. They were both good. The potatoes could have been crispier but had good flavor. They are going to make a great leftover hash. The scallopini had a good lemon flavor. But there was just so much food. Even sharing we had an obnoxious amount of leftovers. Being from out of town it's going to be a hassle schlepping them home, but I just couldn't waste that much food.
So here's my summary- if you are looking for someplace for a large party- this would be a solid option. If you are a party of 2 or 4, I'd think hard before going. If you don't care about sharing a dish and/or have the ability to manage leftovers, go for it. But if you want the ability to each order different dishes so you can try a variety of things and/or don't want a ton of leftover food, there are better options. Looking around, there were a ton of parties of 2-4, so I really don't understand not having an option for 1/2 orders.
If you are a couple (or pair of couples) who enjoy "small plate" experiences and intimate conversation, go elsewhere. If you are looking for the tourist scene with a ton of food, this place is for you.
The only defect is perhaps the excessive amount of food. It should be possible to adjust doses to the number of people. But in reality it wouldn't be the same thing. It's a brand image
