Casa Mezcal reviews
20Went to visit my sons in NY (Jan 2023). Loved the place, the environment, the bartender Alex was great! Great conversations, was a pleasure to have found this place!
Quiet. Good food. Small place. But when we got there the front barricade was shut so we were cobfused and had to stand in the cold for a few minutes while they fixed something.
Their cocktails and food are amazing! The house Mezcal is an absolute plus and to try. The owner is absolutely amazing and so welcoming, you will feel at home and I recommend staying after dinner on Friday nights and explore a bit more the place!
Guys! The mescal mixology class for Valentine’s Day was an absolute amazing experience. It was their first time doing it and they were so generous with their time and samplings. We absolutely love them and we loved their teacher. 10/10! They are so passionate
Good service, margarita was alright, portion size was a complete joke though. I ordered shrimp quesadilla and it was $20 for 3 tiny tortillas that could easily be mistaken for soft shell tacos. The plate did not even come with rice and beans. Overall I enjoyed the atmosphere but it seems like more of a place to go for drinks rather than a full meal because the main courses will still leave you hungry.
Best margaritas in New York, tacos and nachos were really good too! The vibe is cool. I didn’t get to visit the party area, this is only about the restaurant
The best food, drinks and music. You have always a great expirience there. So much fun and awesome service. I really recommend it.
Good music, extremely young crowd! Don’t go here if you’re over 30 unless you wanna feel like a parent or your with a big group. But the music is great!
Like 20 mins into our meal the owner's spouse arrived with their children, sitting next to us and made the whole thing unpleasant. Thursday night dinner in the LES became a weekend brunch in Park Slope. Kids walking on the seats, almost spilling our drinks, staring at us… The spouse was also a bit of an a-hole toward the server. Great drinks, tasty food, super friendly staff otherwise.
I had been there before and I remembered the drinks being really good, but yesterday it seemed they were learning as they went. I understand there’s always people coming and going in this business but when you charge $16-18 for 1 drink, it’s gotta be well made. Also I ordered a vegan option, which was Hongos el Pastor, which was in the Platos Fuertes section (spicy dishes) on the menu, and unfortunately it tasted like they didn’t even put black pepper, cause it was not spicy at all, and I don’t even eat spicy food all the time and not used to it, even tho I couldn’t taste it. Bartenders were friendly mostly tho, but not worth going back for me.
Good food but terrible terrible service. Waitress had no idea where she is and what she is suppose to do. Waiter let us sit outside just later say that we suppose to actually come inside of the restaurant
to get our food. Food took forever to be cooked and came cold. Drinks were mixed up. Yea was served after finished our churros. Overall: don’t recommend.
This place was so underwhelming. Margarita was too sweet. The decor felt like I was in the Bronx, it was so dingy. (I'm from the Bronx) Do not believe everything you see on social media. It's so out of place in such a cool neighborhood. The food had no spice for a restaurant claiming to be Mexican. I've never had tacos so bad as their hibiscus tacos. I don't know, but at least try to welcome vegetarians with flavor instead of whatever that was. Not even the happy hour prices are worth it here. My server didn't even care to ask why I left half my food untouched. Ugh I wish I could turn back time.
Don’t go if going out. They hide the price of drinks and have a hidden 25% gratuity. Won’t let you access certain parts of the building without paying $20, which they don’t tell you beforehand
Love this spot!
Reviews for separate visits:
mezCALL me a cab after this happy hour
@casamezcal has some great deals during happy hour like their classic margaritas. And if you post them on @instagram while you’re there, you get a free shot! Not sure what the blood red shot was but it was a sweet contrast to the perfectly tart marg. Plus the chicken tacos are pretty dang good!
In queso you forgot… @casamezcal is the best Mexican restaurant around! I was invited for a dinner and mezcal tasting and got to try so many items from their menu I hadn’t before and each one was absolutely amazing! The staff took amazing care of us and they will amazing care of you too!
Appetizers
• Esquite - fesh corn, epazote aioli, tajin, cotija cheese (similar to an elote but off the cob)
• Guac & Totopos - chips & guacamole
• Queso Asado - grilled cheese, salsa verde, hoja santa, pico de gallo
Entrees
• Azteca Cake - layered corn tortillas, grilled chicken breast, onion, covered with Oaxacan mole, sesame seeds, avocado
• Barbacoa de Borrego - puebla lamb stew with chile guajillo, with house made corn tortillas, salsas
Mezcal Tasting
We got to try 3 of the 300+ mezcals that they have! It was so cool and informative to learn about them. Each one was so unique in both taste and history
• @mezcalcasaantigua - the first of the artisanal of the ones we tried and probably my favorite of the 3. I had a more mild taste than the others and was recommended to be used for cocktail mixing
• @mezcalherodes - this brand was started by a French wine maker who moved to Mexico and fell in love with mezcal. It’s the perfect love story. This brand aged their mezcals in similar barrels to the wine which gives it the full bodied flavors
• @mezcalrompecorazon - the only reposado mezcal we tried. It was fruitier than the others since this one is aged longer than the others in bourbon barrels and absorbs the sugars, which is also how both reposado tequila and mezcal get its darker color. Also this is the first and only OU certified kosher mezcal!
Dessert
•Churros
Thank you for having & teaching us!
Drop it like it’s hot (cakes)
Because the hot cakes at @casamezcal have a surprising fruity Mexican twist! They corn hot cakes with lime zest, served with a strawberry sauce. Plus their huevos divorciados (yes, divorced eggs) are awesome as well - one served with mole and the other salsa verde, with rice and beans on the side. Plus we ordered some margaritas. Great brunch menu! The only thing I wish there was, was more food!
This place was meh and they didn’t tell us they added gratuity to our bill so we paid +40% gratuity.not a fan of that practice, or their weird experimental margarita flights so just not coming back
Not a good place if you are an Anejo tequila drinker. Very limited, no basic tequila's as Casamigos, Patron, 1800 or Jose Cuevo for those who don't want to spend on the top notch tequila's.
Awful. Too crowed. We were unable to go downstairs because of the number of people. Horrible dj upstairs too. Don't waste your time going there.
I found a bit disappointing paying a cocktail $17-20 and not having at least a regular size glass, but a mini glass you would use for a digestive. Beside that the vide of the place is nice.
Went to an event tonight at casa mezcal and got turned away because of the boots I was wearing. No dress code listed, was given no reasoning or explanation.
Meanwhile people with SANDALS, FLIP FLOPS, sneakers, ripped jeans, and Hawaiian shirts were being let in and my friends with boots was also let in. But then I was turned away because of my boots.
Absolutely terrible.
I ordered a cocktail from a bar and it was quite pricy considering its glass size. A small glass size but more price. Service was attentive and ambience was young & vibrant. Although price of city has gone up because of inflation or recovering from Covid-19, I think you should size up a glass size and pour drinks a bit more generous.
