Cascade Mountain Trailhead reviews
18Lots of uphill, it can get very rocky and slippery. Dog friendly. Will get muddy feet by the time your finished. Took us about 4.5 hours to complete. Had a 1 hour lunch break at the peak.
The trailhead is moderate. Reaching to the top is the difficult part. Plenty of steep and plenty of Rocks. The view is spectacular.
Before starting the trail you could find the guides. They are very helpful and friendly. They give detailed information about the hike.
It's a very great hike. Don't miss it when you visit lake placid
Great view from top. Pretty much straight up hill for 2 miles. Rock to rock much of the way.
The guides at the trail head had fantastic humor and an obvious love for what they are doing, making sure everyone that passed by had enough knowledge to be on an ADK mountain. The trip up to Cascade and Porter was beautiful. One of the "easier" hikes of the 46. (I say this as none of them are really easy, and you should definitely be physically conditioned for a climb, particularly in the knee area.) We hit Porter first and then Cascade on the way back. I suggest doing it this way as the views from both mountains are spectacular, but there is something really special about the view from Cascade, where we stopped for lunch. Round trip the hike took us about 7 hours with all of the long stops to drink in the views. Our group was 5 over 40 and 4 under 18 with the youngest being 10. It was a really great hike for all.
Beautiful views from the top, plenty of steep, and plenty of rocks.
Including our lunch break we spent about 3hr 45min from start to finish.
This is a great trail for a quick trip but bring lots of water because there aren’t any water points out there.
Manageable day hike with two peaks. Porter is just okay, not worth it if you’re just coming for the views and not the peaks. Cascade has incredible views on a great day. A good hike to start the 46 peaks.
The trailhead is hard to miss. There are almost always cars parked there. The trailhead parking comes after the the road narrows into a valley with buetiful cliffs on each side and a long lake. The trail head is normal.it's a trailhead.but the mountain peak is phenomenal. It's about a 2 mile hike up to the top, one of the easiest high peaks to hike. It's kid friendly.
Great climb. Took 2 adults and 3 kids aged, 7,8 and 12 just under 3 hours top to bottom. They had trail guides at the bottom and at the very top. They were very informative and supportive.
Great hike a bit rocky but a good day. Was too foggy at top foe views but srill a great day
Good hike went on a rainy cold Saturday wasnt quite prepared and it was a cold wet hike but we made it all in all great hike probably much better when its warm.
This was a trip that I was looking forward to as soon as I saw it. Ever since I started up cascade mountain, it has been one of my favorite trails in the park. It is a loop trail so you can either go up and back down or you can continue on and do eagle nest which is an additional 1.2 miles (one way). You will see a lot of people on this trail and the section of the loop that skirts the edge of a rock face is pretty narrow. This trail has a little bit of everything, great views, beautiful scenery, good workout but most importantly you are in the high peaks so be prepared to see lots and lots of wildlife!
This hike was awesome. Most beautiful part was mountain top view. You will never feel like to come down. The climb is moderate with well defined trails.
It'll give you a run for your money and then make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside once you've completed it, not for kids or sissies!
Plenty of Parking! Trail was well marked and there was room on Summit to view and relax without being crowded
Cascade mountain is definitely difficult, so I recommend making sure you are prepared for this! Lots of steep rocks to climb up. We got up in less than an hour and came down in around 35 minutes (running). The view from the top is one of the best in the high peaks! You can see into lake placid and a majority of the high peaks! Must do hike if you are in town and want a moderate hike with an amazing view!
Fantastic hike, you will often see it referred to as the "easiest" high peak and there is certainly some truth to that. Both my kids 5 and 8 climbed this easily, we took it easy and let them break when they wanted. Took a bit under 6 hours with an hour at the top. May seem like a long time, but I wanted them to enjoy their first high peak. Very fun hike, don't fear bringing your kids, let them enjoy it.
There are tons of rocks on the trail that you’ll be stepping on and over. And lots and lots of climbing. However, the view at the top is amazing. The view is on a massive slab of rock that offers 360 degree views of the surrounding hills. Totally worth the hike. And you’ll burn enough calories to eat a huge dessert after
Count +/- 3h30 for the hike. The first half is rather hard, the second half gets easier although you are tired. The view is fantastic! You may as well do Porter mountain top once you are up there, which is only 20 min more on a rather flat part, and finish with Cascade.
